My Superpower Is Piloting Magical Girl Corpses?

Chapter 22: The Sacred Tree and Kazenari Town

At the edge of this dark forest stood a curtain of light emitting a soft, white glow.

It was so enormous that even when Lin Guang craned his neck upward, he couldn't see its top, and it stretched endlessly left and right—a wall of light without any visible boundary, tightly enclosing something within.

Logically, something this massive should have been visible even from Lin Guang's "spawn point," but in reality, there had been nothing.

Perhaps the black fog permeating the forest had a special effect that blocked the light from this curtain, meaning anyone who got lost without finding their direction would likely die of exhaustion in this monster-infested forest.

"So this is the barrier?"

The cherry-haired girl stared at the magnificent sight, her cold face finally showing a hint of emotion.

Su Fang also seemed somewhat stunned. It took her a moment to snap out of it, then she vigorously nodded her little head, her voice carrying a trace of reverence.

"Yeah! This is the barrier cast by the Sacred Tree. It's been protecting humanity's last gathering place... Ah, I only just learned this from Senior Airwen, so I'm basically repeating what she said!"

Airwen smiled, interrupting their conversation. "Let's go. Passing through is returning to reality."

With that, she took the lead, stepping forward, her body merging into the light curtain without any resistance.

After passing through an invisible barrier that felt like rippling water, the scenery around them suddenly opened up.

The oppressive black fog and twisted forest vanished instantly.

What met their eyes was an asphalt road winding through majestic, towering mountains.

They were clearly at an extremely high altitude. Surrounding them were lush, undulating mountain forests, and above them was a sky as blue and clear as washed sapphire. The warm evening sunlight poured down unobstructed, gilding every leaf with a golden edge.

"Haah—"

Su Fang closed her eyes, deeply inhaling the air tinged with the fragrance of grass and trees, her face showing an expression of blissful relief, like a cat basking in the sun. "Finally out!"

"This air is definitely the best. The smell inside was suffocating."

Lin Guang also looked up, squinting those cherry-red eyes slightly.

Though he didn't react as dramatically as Su Fang, his perpetually tense shoulders also relaxed a little, and the lingering chill around him dissipated.

Except for Airwen.

She seemed to have too much experience crossing between realms. Standing in the sunlight, her expression remained calm, as if the journey from hell to paradise made no difference to her.

As if sensing their gazes, she explained indifferently, "If you become an Outer Realm Investigator like us, Su Fang, you'll be just as composed someday."

Airwen walked straight to the shade of a tree by the roadside, where a heavy, aggressively styled motorcycle was parked.

Its metal body was pitch black, without any unnecessary decorations. The massive exhaust pipes and exposed mechanical structure exuded an aesthetic of raw violence, and the body was even speckled with mud, clearly showing that its owner frequently rode it through various wild environments.

Airwen walked up to the motorcycle, swung her long leg over, and mounted it with agile, fluid motions. After inserting the long sword on her back, sheath and all, into a custom slot on the handlebars, she casually tossed the helmet hanging from the handlebar to Su Fang.

"Only one helmet. Make do."

"Get on."

She patted the not-so-spacious rear seat behind her, her tone calm. "It's still over thirty kilometers of winding mountain roads to the town. If we don't transform, we'd have to run for quite a while on foot."

"It's a bit cramped, but if you want to get back quickly, you'll have to endure it."

"Huh? We're riding this?"

Su Fang hugged the helmet, looking somewhat surprised at the rear seat clearly designed for a single rider, then glanced at the cherry-haired girl beside her. Although they were all slender young women, fitting three people on one bike... and Senior Mengmengxiang had amnesia... wouldn't it be a bit rude...

But not only was Airwen completely unconcerned, Lin Guang also looked at the hesitant Su Fang with slight confusion, as if he couldn't understand what she was conflicted about at all.

Su Fang faltered, then let out an awkward laugh.

"Ah... fine. I'll sit in the middle, and Senior Mengmengxiang, you sit in the back."

The three quickly adjusted their seating positions.

To squeeze three people onto the bike, they were pressed tightly against each other, body heat transferring between them, as if they could smell the unique scent of magical girls belonging to one another.

Airwen said in a deep voice, "Hold on tight."

Vroom—!!!

The engine roared like a wild beast, and the motorcycle shot forward like an arrow from a bow.

The speedometer accelerated past one hundred kilometers per hour in three seconds, and an intense feeling of being pressed into the seat slammed into them.

"Wah wah wah wah wah wah wah!!!"

Su Fang was frightened into panic, her body tilting backward with the inertia, her entire back firmly crashing into the warm, soft embrace of Lin Guang behind her, while her arms instinctively wrapped around Airwen's elegantly curved slender waist.

She shouted in the wind, voice frantic, "S-sorry!!"

Neither of the two responded.

Airwen's silver-gray hair blew forward from the wind, brushing against Su Fang's neck, tangling with her own burgundy-red hair, while the silent embrace behind her carried a warm, sun-like fragrance.

Suddenly... it felt reassuring.

It seemed that ever since Su Fang transformed into a magical girl for the first time today, she had developed a strange sense—an ability to detect others' magic power and emotions.

Feeling the body heat transmitted from front and back, her heart, which had been nervous from the high-speed ride, actually calmed down.

—The two seniors... didn't seem to dislike her.

The wind howled past, and the trees on both sides receded rapidly.

"Hey! Senior Mengmengxiang!!"

Su Fang shouted loudly.

The wind was too strong for her to hold back her voice.

"Even if you don't remember anything, it's fine! I'll tell you!"

As she spoke, the motorcycle emerged from the winding, undulating mountain road.

The view ahead suddenly opened up, and a magnificent red bridge spanning a canyon came into view.

"This is the Kanamubi Bridge! Going down this bridge, we'll be home soon!"

"Look! That's Kazenari Town!"

Following the direction Su Fang pointed, Lin Guang gently raised his head.

The next moment, those cherry-red eyes reflected a breathtakingly beautiful scene.

It was a town spreading out layer by layer along the coastline and hillside.

Under the afterglow of the setting sun, clusters of buildings slowly flowed down the mountain slope toward the sea, and in the distance lay a vast, boundless deep blue ocean.

It was just sunset. The sun was slowly sinking into the sea, dyeing half the ocean's surface into flowing, shattered gold.

"Beautiful, right?" Su Fang shouted loudly, her voice full of pride. "Once we enter the city, the view will be even better!"

"I live there! I'm a student at Yuyu Private Middle School, in my second year!"

She wasn't uncomfortable with her seniors' silence. Instead, she continued earnestly, "Besides desserts, what I love most is photography! Our town's scenery is amazing. Next time, I can take you to a few secret photo spots!"

"And, and—"

Her words grew more and more excited, her heart blossoming with joy, taking on the innocent and carefree tone unique to a young girl. It was as if she had finally recovered from the sudden upheaval and realized just how much her life would change from now on.

"I'm a magical girl now too!!"

She revealed a genuine, radiant smile.

"Senior Airwen, Senior Mengmengxiang!! Please take care of me from now on!!"
