No sooner had the words fallen.

Whoosh—! Whoosh—! Whoosh—!

Three streaks of light, each a different color, cut across the sky like comets, carrying a powerful aura, and came to a steady hover atop the roofs of three tall buildings surrounding the monster.

Su Fang instinctively looked up, then her eyes widened. Her grave expression was instantly replaced by overwhelming delight.

“That spirit outfit… ‘Forest Pixie’! And ‘Blast Maul’ and ‘Shadow Blade’!”

Her voice trembled with excitement, like a little fan seeing idols up close. “I saw them on TV and in magazines when I was a kid! They’re the Association’s unbeatable ace trio!”

On the left building stood a girl clad in an emerald spirit outfit, holding a massive vine-like staff. Her ears were pointed, giving her an elfin look.

On the right was a very petite girl, strangely outfitted in bright orange heavy armor, wielding an exaggerated alloy war hammer, radiating a startling sense of brute force by contrast.

The last one landed in front of Lin Guang, placing Lin Guang behind her, speaking with calm reliability.

“Don’t be afraid, leave it to us.”

Lin Guang was slightly taken aback.

Before her stood a cold-looking girl in black-and-white ninja attire, wearing a face mask. In her hands she gripped a giant cross-shaped boomerang over a meter across.

The magic power fluctuations inside her…

Felt even stronger than Airwen’s.

“So it’s one of those tough, thick-skinned brutes?”

The orange-armored “Blast Maul” curled the corner of her mouth. “Nice. My old partner hasn’t gone all out for a while.”

The elfin magical girl sighed. “Don’t go too overboard, or Phoenix will nag you for ages after the mission.”

“Hmph, then I’ll just skip the Association!”

In the next instant, the three-colored lights flared across the battlefield.

“Bind!”

“Forest Pixie” struck first.

Her staff slammed into the ground, and countless thick, snake-like thorned vines erupted, bursting through the concrete and growing frantically. In the blink of an eye they wrapped around the giant beast’s legs and torso, pinning the fifteen-meter monster to the spot so it could not move.

“Crush it for me!!”

The very moment the monster was restrained, “Blast Maul” leaped from the high building. Her alloy hammer blazed with dazzling orange fire as thrusters kicked in, accelerating it. She slammed it viciously into the monster’s neck.

Crack—!!!

A teeth-grinding sound of bone breaking echoed through the block.

Amid the monster’s agonized roar, its neck armor exploded outward and its magical defenses dissipated in an instant.

“Heavenly… Execution.”

The long-silent “Shadow Blade” flashed and appeared directly in front of the monster.

Her gigantic cross boomerang spun at high speed, emitting a piercing hum as it became a black circular crescent.

No fancy moves, no chanting.

Slash.

The black crescent carved a perfect arc and swept through the monster’s breached neck in one swift motion.

For a second the scene seemed frozen.

The monster’s enormous, grotesque head slowly slid off its neck.

Bang.

The moment the head hit the ground, a towering geyser of blood burst from the smooth cut like a black downpour.

Its massive body shuddered, then collapsed with a thunderous crash, sending dust into the air before dissolving into black particles that scattered away.

Only a ravaged street and lingering smoke remained.

In less than ten seconds, the high-level monster that had been so hard for Lin Guang and the others to break through was dealt with by this tightly coordinated trio as neatly as slicing vegetables.

The clamor of battle stopped abruptly, leaving a heavy silence.

“Phew…”

As the crimson motes of light faded, Lin Guang removed her transformation on the rooftop.

The heavy weariness that follows mana depletion settled over her.

The pale yellow off-shoulder chiffon blouse and light-blue denim skirt Su Fang had lent her that morning were intact. That youthful outfit, combined with the girl’s slightly haggard pretty face, created a battle-damaged, fragile-looking contrast against the ruined backdrop.

Lin Guang lifted her head, her gaze deep as she stared at the three streaks of light hovering in the air. Her cherry-red eyes glittered.

“So strong…”

That level of destructive power that decides life and death with a motion, and that enviable flight capability…

She felt these three were stronger than Tangtang and Hermit’s Purple, who were combating the flying dragon.

Perhaps even without the Sacred Tree’s suppression, the three of them could have slain this Nightmare Seed beast at its peak.

Is this the ceiling for magical girls in this trial world?

Being a magical girl came with countless troubles, but she could not deny the allure of such extraordinary power.

Lin Guang felt a subtle warm flow in her lower abdomen.

…Even having a period would be forgiven for this.

At that moment, hurried footsteps approached.

“Senior Mengmengxiang—!!”

Before Lin Guang could turn, a choked voice collided with her and crashed into her arms.

Wearing a white hoodie, Su Fang dashed over and hugged Lin Guang tightly.

After only a second, she released as if electrocuted, frantically patting and probing up and down Lin Guang’s body, speaking incoherently as she checked.

“Sorry! Sorry! I’m really sorry!”

Tears still clung to the corners of the girl’s eyes, her face full of guilt and fright. “Did senior get hurt? Does your body hurt?”

“It’s all my fault for saying those things last night that made you force yourself—”

Su Fang’s words trailed off.

The cherry-haired girl looked at her calmly. In her cherry-red eyes there was no sign of pain, only a hint of puzzlement, as if she didn’t understand what Su Fang was apologizing for.

“?”

Su Fang stared at her senior’s usual expression and suddenly didn’t know what to say.

And yet her heart, as if by magic, steadied.

Just then.

Whoosh—

An incredibly gentle wind blew in from nowhere, softly ruffling both their hair and this scarred stretch of land.

Lin Guang opened her eyes wider in surprise.

In that gentle breeze, the previously cracked, shattered asphalt road seemed to rewind, closing and smoothing out. Countless steel and concrete fragments rose and reassembled themselves, restoring into intact walls. The massive hole the monster had torn open visibly healed.

Even the interior furnishings and décor returned.

In only a few seconds, the ruined street was restored to its original state, streetlights relit, as if everything that had just happened were an illusion.

“This…”

Lin Guang’s eyes popped.

Su Fang smiled. “This actually happens a lot.”

“You had amnesia, so you don’t remember.” Airwen also descended beside them and looked at the restored surroundings. “This is the power of the Sacred Tree.”

“It’s because of this power that our city can keep functioning and life can continue after monster attacks over a century.”

She closed her eyes and felt the rhythm of the wind. “They say the city’s name comes from this.”
