And so, as he walked, Zhong Ming absorbed the strange energy and assimilated a vast amount of knowledge.
However, as he absorbed this energy with an open body and mind, Zhong Ming's comprehension of the laws indeed deepened, and certain changes began to appear on his body.
First, streaks of pitch-black Demon Patterns slowly emerged from beneath his skin, coiling like snakes around his limbs and torso.
Then, his shadow gradually came to life.
Zhong Ming's shadow had originally been a normal human silhouette. But now, under the play of light, it constantly twisted and contorted, at times forming a hideous Ghost Face, at others a terrifying Demon. A sinister, horrifying, and utterly bizarre aura seeped out in wisps from the shadow.
'I understand!'
...
Because the energy of the Evil Spirits didn't hinder him, but instead continuously merged with his body and mind, gifting him insights, Zhong Ming's steps grew ever lighter.
Even though Zhong Ming had made preparations at the start of the Eighth Jail and let the Silver Blood Guard depart first, he still caught up to them quickly, and even strode right past them.
"Everyone, be careful!" Yin Yi's voice was grave, filled with the decisiveness of a seasoned veteran. "I've just investigated. There are two sources of the strangeness on this Path of Purgatory: one is of the Fallen type, the other of the Shadow type! Guard your Heart Spirit and shroud yourselves in the Seven Star Demon Breaking Power. You must not be bewitched by the Fallen energy!"
"And watch out for shadows—even your own. Don't let your guard down for a second!"
The Silver Blood Guard were indeed highly capable and extremely familiar with bizarre Evil Spirits.
In a very short time, they had identified the properties of the strange source on the Path of Purgatory and devised a countermeasure.
At this rate, it was only a matter of time before they crossed the Eighth Jail.
But halfway there, they saw Zhong Ming strolling casually past them.
When they got a look at his appearance, the members of the Silver Blood Guard were instantly stunned, their faces etched with astonishment and disbelief.
Streaks of Demon Patterns had crawled all over his limbs and were even beginning to appear on his face. The pitch-black markings intertwined, on the verge of coalescing into a hideous Ghost Face that would completely obscure his features. This also made his aura turn bizarre and sinister.
Furthermore, Zhong Ming's shadow had undergone a bizarre transformation—the dark figure seemed about to rise up on its own, and a terrifying, ominous aura was emanating madly from it.
"?!!"
"He was so confident just now. I thought he had some unique method for dealing with this, but I never expected him to succumb so easily," one of the Silver Blood Guard sighed, his tone full of regret.
"This source of strangeness is truly tricky. On one hand, it corrupts and bewitches you; on the other, it gifts you insights and knowledge. You'll fall for its trap with the slightest lapse in attention."
"Enough talk! Save him, now!" Yin Yi barked, his voice urgent.
Although they hadn't expected Zhong Ming to be 'corrupted' so easily, the Silver Blood Guard, having fought against bizarre Evil Spirits for a long time, knew that the only way for humanity—and even themselves—to survive the coming catastrophe was to stand united.
Therefore, even though Zhong Ming was their rival, they couldn't just stand by and watch him be utterly corrupted by Evil Spirits. Their only thought was to save him first.
However, the moment they moved, the Demon Patterns on Zhong Ming's face suddenly lit up. The nearly-formed Ghost Face seemed to come alive, and his writhing shadow instantly stopped twisting, solidifying into a frigid, black figure.
"HEH HEH HEH... You want to save him now? Too late!"
A sinister cackle emerged from the Ghost Face's mouth. The voice was hoarse and grating, nothing like Zhong Ming's original tone.
The next moment, Zhong Ming's shadow came fully to life. A bizarre and terrifying power erupted from it, and a surge of black energy threatened to devour all the surrounding light.
"Die!"
FWOOSH—!
Along with that piercing shriek, countless pitch-black Shadow Thorns erupted from the living shadow. They shrieked through the air toward the Silver Blood Guard, each one wreathed in a power so ominous it made one's skin crawl.
Sensing the bizarre and overwhelming nature of this power, Yin Yi and the others' expressions changed drastically. They subconsciously channeled their Magical Power to protect themselves—as seasoned veterans, they knew they had to ensure their own safety before they could even think of saving anyone else.
HUMMM—!
The Magical Power of the seven resonated in unison, their potent Spiritual Power weaving together into a radiant seven-star light screen that enveloped them completely, perfectly sealed.
Only when they were safe did the seven have a moment to look up at Zhong Ming. But that one glance made them all freeze on the spot, their faces filled with utter disbelief.
The speeding Shadow Thorns had abruptly frozen in mid-air, just a few feet from the seven-star light screen, completely motionless.
Also frozen was the pitch-black Ghost Face on Zhong Ming's face, woven from a mass of Demon Patterns.
The Ghost Face no longer showed any of its earlier brazen arrogance; all that remained was helplessness and terror.
"How is this possible? After absorbing so much knowledge, how are you not corrupted?!"
