Chapter 437

If coordination and seamless teamwork had a face, the Vanguard Order members would have worn it.

The way they moved and covered for one another was almost beautiful.

Every movement had purpose.

Every opening was immediately exploited.

Every attack was followed by another member covering the attacker’s blind spot.

Even the fearsome Abberants were struggling to react in time.

In the war against the Abberants, numbers didn’t matter.

Humanity had learned that lesson the hard way.

A single Abberant was enough to turn an army into a massacre.

During the First Great War, humanity had believed they held the advantage when they faced a force of only fifty Abberants.

They had the numbers.

They had the manpower.

They had confidence.

And they were proven horribly wrong.

Four cities were lost within a single day.

A single Abberant, One-Spine or not, was capable of taking down a hundred humans alone.

So imagine the surprise when a hundred Abberants were struggling against a hundred humans.

And losing.

They had initially believed the two Captains were the only humans they needed to fear.

But when had the normal members of the Vanguard Order started moving like this?

What the Abberants didn’t know was that these so-called ’normal’ members weren’t random soldiers.

They were under the command of these two Captains.

Each Captain in the Vanguard Order was assigned a full-blown squad, and they also had the right to choose a private, personal squad for more coded missions.

Missions that didn’t require a full-blown attack.

Unfortunately, due to his difficult personality, Raze had never been able to get his own small squad throughout all his years as a Captain.

Instead, he had simply been assigned the standard number of full-blown squads required for his missions.

And strangely enough...

He was perfectly content with that.

He didn’t need a bunch of weaklings slowing him down during missions.

He was an elite.

A weapon of humanity.

A man feared by the Abberants and admired by humans.

If anybody was going to work alongside him, they needed to be at the top as well.

They needed to be on his level.

He wouldn’t accept anything less.

And now, he was showing exactly why the Abberants feared him.

Whether they feared him the same way they feared the Big Four Legacies—the forces considered humanity’s strongest—no one knew.

Pffffff—!

Raze weaved between claw slashes as though they were nothing.

His body twisted effortlessly between the attacks while his axe spun through his hands, his expression remaining cold and determined.

The massive forms of the creatures didn’t intimidate him.

He cut through them like a lumberjack chopping down trees.

Landing on one of the earth platforms, Raze immediately pushed off again.

The force behind the movement sent him shooting forward with a speed and power that a normal human shouldn’t have been capable of producing.

An Abberant swung its fist at him.

Raze sidestepped it while still in midair.

His body twisted away from the attack before he vaulted even higher.

His axe rose above his head.

He didn’t hesitate.

Raze brought the weapon down with his entire strength.

The axe whistled through the air like a deadly missile.

BOOOOM!

It connected directly with the Abberant’s head.

The impact split the creature’s skull apart like a watermelon.

Yet the axe remained lodged in its head, the handle sticking outward like an enormous tree stump.

Raze landed directly on the shaft of his weapon.

Precisely at its tip.

His weight forced the axe downward.

The blade tore through the creature’s body as the weapon slid down its back, ripping the flesh open like scissors cutting through fabric.

Blue blood sprayed into the air.

Raze’s robe flapped silently behind him as his eyes remained locked on the next group of Abberants charging toward him.

He didn’t move.

He simply remained standing on the shaft of his axe as it continued sliding down the creature’s body.

Blue blood continued spraying around him, making Captain Raze look almost like a surfer riding a bloody wave.

The Abberants were already terribly close.

Raze lifted one leg.

Then kicked the underside of his weapon’s shaft.

The axe responded like a springboard.

Raze vaulted off it.

The weapon spun through the air several times.

And at precisely the right moment—

His hand closed around the handle.

The axe landed perfectly in his grasp.

Because without wasting a second, Raze hauled the axe diagonally, sending the weapon’s head burying deep into the neck of an Abberant.

Blue blood sprayed through the air.

Raze twisted the shaft once.

Click.

A low mechanical sound echoed from within the weapon.

Then—

BOOOM!

The embedded mechanism detonated, blasting the half-severed head completely off the creature’s body.

Raze didn’t even look at it.

He twirled around and slammed one foot into the falling corpse, using its body as a platform before springing even higher into the air.

BAM!

An Abberant’s fist crashed into its falling comrade, sending the corpse ploughing into the earth.

Raze pointed one hand forward.

The earth beneath the creature suddenly surged upward like a wave.

It wrapped around the Abberant’s legs before rapidly climbing higher, spreading across its rocky body like ice.

The creature struggled against it.

But before the earth could completely bind the Abberant—

Whoosh!

Ella whistled past.

Her staff suddenly elongated, stretching to several times its original length.

She spun the weapon once.

Then swung.

SHIIK!

The staff tore through the Abberant’s neck, taking its head clean off as effortlessly as uprooting melons from a farm.

"Keep up."

Ella landed on an earth platform before immediately kicking off again.

The tall female Captain wasn’t like the others who relied on the standard military Earth ability.

She had possessed her own ability long before becoming an Aspirant.

The ability to increase the weight of whatever she touched.

She could make something as heavy as a mountain feel as light as a feather.

Or make it weigh as much as fifty mountains.

And she barely had any limit.

Combined with her staff’s active skill, which allowed her to increase and decrease its length, Ella was a complete menace on the battlefield.

Her staff whistled through the air again.

An Abberant’s fist came rushing toward her face.

Ella simply parried it away.

The massive limb was knocked off course as she immediately leaped into the air.

Another creature was already preparing to strike.

Ella swung her staff.

BAM!

The weapon smashed into the monster’s head with tremendous force.

Its skull collapsed into mush.

Ella didn’t bother retrieving her weapon.

Instead, she leaped higher and landed directly on the shaft of her staff, just like Raze had done moments earlier.

But unlike Raze, she wasn’t using it to ride the falling body.

She was using the elevated position to scan the battlefield.

Her eyes swept across the destruction below.

Five minutes.

It had only been five minutes since they arrived.

And already, they had eliminated half of the Abberants designated to destroy the wall.

From her elevated position, Ella could still see the other forces outside.

The forces that were supposed to join up with the Abberants inside.

Their towering forms were difficult to miss.

Even from here, their massive bodies stood out against the battlefield.

Ella sighed.

Then she leaped backward.

Her body descended toward one of the earth platforms Raze had created.

At the same time, her elongated staff fell through the air.

Ella reached out.

Her fingers wrapped around the weapon perfectly.

She landed smoothly.

A faint smile appeared on her face.

"Well, let’s continue killing then."
