Chapter 468

In one of the Aspirants’ dorms, a certain orange-haired teen could be seen sitting on his bed.

Across from him were three figures, all seated quietly while the orange-haired boy stared down at his phone.

He lifted the device to his ear and waited.

It rang for several seconds.

Then, after nearly a minute, a voice finally came from the other end.

"Berg, I’m busy right now, so whatever you want to say, make it quick."

Berg waited for a second before replying.

"Father, I need your help."

"And that’s why I picked your call, so make it quick."

Berg inhaled and exhaled slowly before speaking.

"I’m sure you must have seen the broadcast on the day of the invasion and then the consequent news that followed?"

The man on the other end didn’t reply.

The silence lasted for several seconds, making Berg increasingly anxious.

So he simply continued.

He knew his father.

The Head of the Immortal Flame Family was a man of very few words.

He preferred his fists and his ability over exchanging meaningless words that would lead nowhere.

As he always said:

What’s the use of a diplomatic conversation when you could simply burn them all?

Anyway, Berg continued.

"That monster is an Aspirant who has threatened me countless times. He has even touched me with his filthy, monstrous hands and beaten me a lot."

His expression twisted with hatred.

"He undermined my title and power and always ta—"

"I think I recall telling you a while ago that whatever you want, make it quick. So what’s with the whole history lesson?"

Berg halted.

He sighed before continuing.

"I don’t want him to survive whatever is going to happen to him."

His fingers tightened around the phone.

"I want you to find a way to cajole the Commander into executing him or making an experiment out of him."

He paused.

"Anything that will make sure he doesn’t come out of whatever he’s going through alive."

"Is that all?"

Berg hesitated.

"One more thing. If possible, I want his friends—specifically his best friend—to be taken care of too."

His eyes narrowed.

"They’re a thorn in my backside, and they’re all birds of the same feather. Hence, we need incriminating evi—"

"You don’t have to tell me what to do."

His father’s voice remained as blunt as ever.

"As for the incriminating evidence, you are the one over there. Find something against them. Witnesses who could testify against him."

The corner of the Legacy’s lips curved into a knowing grin.

His gaze darted toward the three teenagers seated across from him.

"Don’t worry. I got just the witnesses."

His grin widened.

"But I need one more, and only you have the authority to summon him."

There was a brief pause on the other end.

It was as though the man was contemplating.

"Who’s that? And why?"

Berg’s grin remained.

"There was an incident that occurred a few months ago, and this person was involved in it."

He leaned back slightly.

"I learned of a whisper recently, so this person is real important in this case."

"Name?"

Berg smirked.

Then he said the name over the phone.

Silence followed.

The Head of the Immortal Flame Family seemed to think for a second or two before finally responding.

"Okay."

His tone remained indifferent.

"According to the reports from Jack, a trial will be held in less than six days. So I will invite this special guest of yours as a witness."

Berg’s eyes gleamed.

"Do well to get whatever evidence or witnesses you have ready before six days. Then leave the rest to me."

Berg’s smile widened until it seemed almost impossible for it to grow any further.

"Thank you, Father."

The man hung up without ceremony.

Beep.

Berg slowly lowered the phone to his side.

He stared at the screen for a few seconds before finally turning his attention toward the three teenagers sitting across from him.

A sinister grin spread across his face.

"Good news, Flinn."

His eyes glinted with excitement.

"Our common enemy will be destroyed in less than six days."

He leaned forward slightly.

"I got my dad to help us."

His grin widened.

"So, let’s prepare."

The teen sitting between the other two smirked and nodded.

"Great. I’ve waited for months to get my well-deserved revenge on him, no matter what. I’m glad this new partnership is working out nicely."

Berg rose to his full height and walked toward the corner of the room.

Due to his influence, he had managed to secure a room exclusively for himself instead of sharing it with two other Aspirants like everyone else.

He opened the refrigerator and pulled out four bottles of soda.

Returning to the others, he handed three of them over.

They received the drinks gratefully.

Berg then raised his own bottle into the air.

The other three followed suit after popping their caps open.

"To Ray Dawson’s downfall."

Berg’s face stretched into a wide grin.

"To his downfall."

The other three replied in unison.

They brought the bottles to their lips and downed the drinks, satisfaction plastered across their faces.

Meanwhile, in the Weapons Hall, Captain Jake could be seen training with his sword.

He danced across the floor, his mind completely focused on an invisible target.

His sword whistled through the air with every swing.

Slash!

He weaved.

He moved.

Every motion flowed seamlessly into the next as he fought an opponent that existed only within his imagination.

He moved like a flawless swordsman.

Yet despite being completely immersed in his training, his mind seemed to be somewhere else.

There was a slight distraction in his movements.

Something was clearly bothering him.

Then, he suddenly stopped.

Jake threw his sword toward the ground.

Clang!

The weapon skidded across the floor before coming to a stop.

"Damn you, Ray."

Jake ran a hand through his hair with an irritated expression.

"I was already taking a liking to you, for fuck’s sake."

He released a frustrated groan.

He was about to bend down and retrieve his sword when—

Chime!

A loud notification sounded from his phone on the raised platform.

Jake turned toward it.

Walking over, he picked up the device and glanced at the screen.

A notification was waiting for him.

The symbol displayed alongside it was that of a closed eye.

Jake’s expression became slightly curious.

He tapped the symbol.

A message opened on the screen.

His eyes moved across the words.

Slowly.

Calmly.

Then his brows knitted into a frown.

He read the message again.

For several seconds, his expression remained unreadable.

Then—

A faint smile slowly appeared across his lips.

"Maybe..."

Jake lowered the phone slightly.

"Maybe there is still something I can do to help."

His gaze returned to the message.

"I don’t believe everything I’m hearing, so I can still help."

His eyes settled on the final word displayed before him.

.....

Jury.

Jake stared at it for several seconds.

Then he quietly locked his phone.

He placed it back on the platform, picked up his sword, and returned to his training.
