My Ultimate Gacha System

Chapter 471 - 77 — Wembley Brace I

"You move them. Jack and Ollie finish it."

Demien looked once at the tactical board before standing, Baccus and Irvine still marked tight on England’s right, Grealish and Watkins already shifted toward the opposite spaces.

He understood it without needing it said twice — Southgate didn’t want another central combination through the middle, he wanted the whole Australian block dragged one way until the other side cracked open.

His ankle still carried a dull ache from Baccus’s first-half challenge, but when he jogged the first few steps back onto the pitch, nothing held him back.

Australia came out with Baccus still in midfield despite the yellow, talking fast with Irvine and pointing back toward Demien — the message plain enough even from a distance: Baccus couldn’t attack every touch recklessly anymore, so Irvine would have to start closing earlier the moment Demien turned.

Australia kicked long toward Duke to start the half.

Dunk won the header and knocked the second ball to Henderson.

Henderson brought it down and found Demien with Baccus already closing.

Demien checked Irvine before the ball even arrived — Baccus coming from behind, Irvine starting to shut the forward lane — and let Baccus lean into his back, rolled his foot over the ball, and twisted away from the first challenge before Irvine could reach him.

The turn only bought him half a yard.

He still had to get the ball away before Irvine finished closing him down, and he found Trent on the right in time.

Trent advanced and switched it to Grealish before Australia’s midfield could fully recover, but Strain stayed upright against him and forced him back toward Colwill — the first attempt at Southgate’s plan surviving, but only just.

"England are moving it across Australia faster now," the commentator said, "but this side created the better first-half chances, and nobody should mistake this for an easy second half."

England built again in the forty-eighth minute, Dunk finding Henderson while Demien started higher than he had all first half, forcing Baccus to choose between following him or staying tight to Henderson.

Baccus followed.

Demien dropped suddenly toward the ball, took it from Henderson, returned it first time, ran beyond Baccus, and received again once Henderson had worked it through Trent.

Irvine slid across to cover.

Demien saw Watkins already breaking behind Souttar and drove a disguised pass between Irvine and Burgess.

The outside-of-foot ball bent into Watkins’s run before Souttar could step across.

Watkins entered the box and shot across Ryan, who got his left hand down and pushed it beyond the far post.

Watkins slapped his hands together — post, then Ryan, twice denied now.

"Same run again," Demien told him, pointing. "Their center-backs are starting to step toward midfield."

Australia tried to hit back before England could settle, Goodwin finding Irvine centrally, Henderson stepping toward him, Boyle already breaking behind Colwill.

Demien started toward Boyle, then clocked Baccus making the supporting run inside Henderson and cut across the central lane instead, getting a toe to Irvine’s pass before it reached him.

He didn’t slow the move down.

He carried through the center with Baccus backpedaling, still unwilling to dive in with a card already in his pocket, Irvine closing from the left, Souttar staying with Watkins, Maddison drifting into the right half-space.

Demien shaped as though he’d play Maddison.

Irvine shifted to cover the lane.

Demien dragged the ball across himself with the sole, then cut a second sharp touch through the other side of Irvine before the midfielder could reset.

Baccus hesitated, unable to risk a reckless challenge with the booking hanging over him.

Demien emerged centrally, twenty-three yards out.

Souttar finally stepped away from Watkins, forced into it now that Demien had a clean lane.

Watkins held his position between Burgess and Rowles, keeping either of them from sliding across to help.

Demien took one settling touch and struck before Souttar could reach him.

The ball rose over Souttar’s block.

Ryan started moving toward the upper corner.

The topspin bit late and the shot dropped hard beneath the bar before Ryan could get anything behind it.

England 1 — 0 AustraliaDemien Walter 51’

For half a second he just watched the net.

His first goal as a starter, at Wembley.

Then it broke loose — he shouted, turned toward the stands, arms spread, one fist punching upward as he ran.

Watkins got to him first and jumped into his side.

Maddison arrived next and grabbed him around the shoulders.

Trent came in laughing, because the whole move had started from the exact right-side pattern they’d rehearsed at halftime.

Henderson reached them last and pushed everyone back toward halfway, because Australia were already lining up the restart.

"Baccus couldn’t commit with the card," the commentator said, "Irvine got beaten by the change of direction, and Souttar had to abandon Watkins just to close the shot down — that’s a complete team breakdown in Australia’s structure."

「MATCH MISSION PROGRESS」 「Direct Goal Contributions: 1/1」

Australia didn’t fold.

Goodwin pushed higher off the restart, and in the fifty-third minute, Irvine found him after Boyle dragged Colwill inward.

Goodwin took one touch and lashed it toward Johnstone’s near side, but Johnstone reacted fast and palmed it away.

The rebound fell to Baccus.

Demien got there from the center, stepped across his path, and shielded the ball with his body — and Baccus reached around him and clipped his ankle again.

The referee gave the foul.

Demien stayed down an extra breath, the contact landing right on the sore spot.

Baccus backed off immediately, already carrying his yellow.

Demien looked at the referee but didn’t push for a card that the contact didn’t earn, getting up and testing the ankle again before play resumed.

England began building the second goal between the fifty-fourth and fifty-sixth minutes.

Australia dropped back into their five, Demien receiving from Henderson on the right, Baccus keeping his distance rather than jumping in, Irvine standing behind him.

Demien didn’t try to dribble through them again.

He controlled the rhythm instead — Henderson to Demien to Trent, Trent back inside, Demien to Henderson, Henderson to Trent again — the ball returning to the right so often that Australia gradually shifted that way to cover it.

「LEGENDARY SKILL ACTIVATED」 「Toni Kroos — Metronome」

He checked the opposite side after every pass.

Goodwin had tucked in to help.

Strain had narrowed toward Burgess.

Grealish stood almost alone on England’s left.

Watkins had already started drifting from Souttar toward the far-post channel.

When Irvine finally stepped two more yards toward Trent, Demien pointed across the pitch.

Trent saw it and sent the diagonal to Grealish.

Grealish controlled inside the left of the box with Strain scrambling to recover, and Watkins left Souttar and attacked behind Burgess toward the far post.

Grealish drove a low cross-shot across Ryan.

Watkins slid in and turned it over the line.

England 2 — 0 AustraliaOllie Watkins 57’ (Assist: Jack Grealish)

Watkins rose from the slide with both fists clenched, shouting toward the crowd, the post and Ryan’s earlier save both erased in one motion.

Grealish reached him first.

Demien arrived right after, pointing back at Trent before pulling Watkins into an embrace, because the switch had finally moved the entire block.

"Finally!" Watkins shouted at him.

"Only took you three chances," Demien said.

"Shut up," Watkins said, laughing too hard to mean it.

"England finally executed the halftime plan exactly as drawn," the commentator said. "Australia pulled right, Trent switched before they could recover, Grealish got isolated one-on-one, and Watkins attacked the far post."

Australia answered again rather than accept it, Boyle attacking Colwill and finding Duke in the fifty-ninth minute, Duke laying it back to Irvine.

Demien tracked him and blocked the first shooting lane, so Irvine moved it to Goodwin instead, whose shot from distance Johnstone caught clean.

Southgate was already preparing changes while Johnstone held the ball.

Around the sixty-first minute, England made four substitutions at once — Phillips on for Henderson, Stones on for Tomori, Rashford on for Grealish, Trippier on for Colwill — the new eleven settling as Johnstone, Trent, Dunk, Stones, Trippier, Phillips, Demien, Bowen, Maddison, Rashford, Watkins.

Phillips jogged straight into the deeper role. "I’ll sit — you stay the freer eight," he told Demien.

Neither of them mentioned Italy, but both understood exactly what it meant — Southgate wasn’t just watching the two of them separately anymore, he was watching them together.

Phillips didn’t play badly.

His first touch went straight to Stones for the simple ball into Demien, and he stayed behind the attack rather than following it forward, and when possession turned over, he was already sitting central to cut off the first pass toward Duke.

Demien noticed it while recovering beside him, and it told him exactly why this decision was genuinely about balance and not about who was better.

Australia threatened from a set piece in the sixty-fourth minute, Goodwin’s delivery met by Stones in the air, the drop falling to Irvine outside the box.

Demien stepped out and blocked the first attempt, and the rebound went to Boyle, who crossed again — Dunk heading the second ball clear.

「MATCH MISSION PROGRESS」 「Defensive Recoveries: 4/4」

England attacked through Rashford for the first time in the sixty-sixth minute, Phillips winning a loose ball and finding Demien, Baccus closing more cautiously now.

Demien released Rashford early behind Strain, and Rashford drove vertically rather than wait for the back five to settle, reaching the left of the box and cutting toward Watkins — only for Souttar to slide across and block the delivery before it reached him.

The rebound fell to Maddison outside the box, who shot first time, Ryan catching it after shifting across his line.
