One of them immediately asked, "Are you saying she’s gone? That man actually killed her?"

Another Blessed looking equally confused. "How do you know? What exactly did you see?"

Beatrice closed her eyes and rubbed her temple, as though the experience had left her with a lingering migraine.

After a moment, she shook her head and said, "Excuse me."

She turned and walked away from the room, entering a quiet, empty corridor.

Then, she reopened her connection with Atia and spoke into her thoughts; ’Goddess, I’m conflicted by the results of Perfect Deduction’

’There is a significant difference in power between the goddess and me, and I know that such a difference can affect the kind of information Perfect Deduction is capable of revealing.’

’I say this because the skill didn’t actually show me the events surrounding her death. I didn’t see what happened to her or how she was killed. All I know is that Perfect Deduction was unable to trace the evidence any further and couldn’t identify where she was.’

’Could that also be the result of the difference in our levels?’

Atia’s response came almost immediately.

[That is entirely plausible]

Three more days passed, and during that time, Olaf’s mind was examined to verify the authenticity of everything he had told them.

Within his reconstructed memories, they witnessed his supposed battle with Isabella.

They saw him follow the vehicle she was driving, only for his presence to be discovered by her companions. A confrontation then unfolded between Olaf, Isabella, Valerie, and Ethan’s hitman summon.

The battle appeared intense.

Valerie did not pose much of a threat against him, while the version of Ethan’s summon within the memory was considerably weaker than the one Olaf had actually fought.

Despite taking a severe beating throughout the confrontation, Olaf had eventually managed to overpower them.

Ethan’s summon was vanquished and Valerie was knocked unconscious.

The final exchange then happened between the Agent and the Princess.

After a good back and forth, it ultimately got to the point where he severed her head with his weapon. Her body then suddenly vanished in a burst of darkness, leaving no trace behind.

To anyone examining the memory, it appeared completely genuine.

But that wasn’t what had actually happened.

The memory was a reconstruction of Olaf’s real experience.

His original memory had been of the battle against Eduardo, Valerie, and Joe.

The reconstructed version had simply replaced Eduardo with Isabella and altered the surrounding circumstances to make the entire encounter appear as though he had been pursuing her instead.

Even the events of the battle had been adjusted accordingly. The injuries Olaf sustained, the attacks he endured, and the eventual victory had all been reconstructed from the genuine events that had taken place.

The result was a memory that retained the authenticity of Olaf’s actual experience while presenting an entirely different sequence of events.

And that was precisely what made the reconstruction so convincing.

As for the weapon that had supposedly been used to kill Isabella, that had been easily created by Ethan through his Aspect of Charge.

His control over electromagnetism also gave him control over metals, allowing him to manipulate existing metal and quickly shape it into the weapon they needed.

And for the blood of the goddess on it; While at the basement where Ethan made the weapon, Isabella had intentionally cut herself to let a small amount of her blood fall onto the weapon, creating the physical evidence necessary to support the story.

But this wasn’t all.

News networks had also been fed the same false information, reporting that one of the King’s children and the wife of the business tycoon, Mr. Stark, had been killed.

It was also reported that a short and private funeral was supposedly arranged for them, with the entire affair kept away from the public eye.

Of course Ethan and the king had even gone as far as staging a short burial ceremony, involving a few of Ethan’s friends and giving the appearance of a genuine funeral.

With all of these details carefully put into place, the Blessed became even more convinced that their objective had truly been completed.

Beatrice had tried her best to convince them to remain and conduct further investigations, but her efforts ultimately failed.

The reason she wanted to keep as many of them around was because she still intended to use them against Ethan and the others.

However, most of the Blessed no longer saw any reason to remain.

Their objective had become complete.

As far as they were concerned, there was no point involving themselves in conflicts that had nothing to do with their original mission.

They were also aware that Ethan had deployed powerful summons throughout the city, meaning that remaining in Gritnia and provoking unnecessary confrontations could only create additional risks.

There were a few others that could’ve stayed to do her bidding but they bargained for more money than before, costs that Beatrice couldn’t afford to pay.

And just as Ethan and the others had anticipated, the Blessed slowly began departing.

One after another, they left the Morgenstein estate, returning to their respective cities and countries, making their way back to wherever they had originally come from before entering Grayforte.

However, most of them never actually made it back.

A good number of the Blessed were ambushed and killed along the way by either the fallen angel, Ethan, his summons, or his friends.

Each of those encounters took place under heavily unfavorable circumstances for the Blessed, as Ethan and his people deliberately ensured that they were never given the opportunity to fight on equal terms. Outnumbered and caught off guard, their deaths came swiftly.

There were a few reasons behind this.

For one, these Blessed had been willing to come after Isabella in the first place. They already demonstrated that they were prepared to kill anyone who stood in the way of their objective.

So If an open conflict had somehow broken, with Ethan and his people being forced to defend Isabella, there was no reason to believe these same individuals would hesitate to fight and kill them too.

Secondly, they were still part of the problem.

Sooner or later, Ethan intended for Isabella to return to the world, and although he understood that the gods could simply choose new Blessed to replace those who had been killed, that didn’t mean he was willing to leave the existing threat untouched.

There was also little reason for him to fear divine retaliation.

Ethan and the others understood that the gods had no particular attachment to these humans beyond their usefulness as Blessed. Their true objective was the Mistress and her reincarnation cycle, which they believed had now been reset.

From their perspective, the mission was complete.
