My Ultimate OP System: Summoning All Dragons, Gods, Heroes & Villains
Chapter 457: The DinnerLilinlea answered immediately. "My Lord, I took the pleasure of inviting them for dinner."
She gestured toward the empty space beside the table. "Please, come and take your place. We were waiting for your return."
Within the Demon Continent, the way a family addressed its head depended largely on the relationship established within that household.
The head of the family generally decided how the others were expected to refer to them. Among the Krygon family, even the wives addressed their husband as "My Lord."
Nathan did not look particularly accepting of the explanation as he walked farther into the room.
"I do not remember asking for this," he said bluntly. "I did not ask for them to be invited here."
The atmosphere became quiet.
Lilinlea’s earlier composure began to falter. She looked slightly nervous as she answered, "I... I thought it would be good for us to get to know the strangers a little better."
Nathan’s expression darkened. "I’ve said it time and again. Until I give an instruction, none of you are to do anything without my permission."
His voice carried enough anger to make the already awkward atmosphere even heavier.
Nathan then noticed the expressions on his guests’ faces. Ethan and the others looked surprised and somewhat uncertain as they watched the exchange.
They certainly had not expected the invitation to have been made against Nathan’s wishes. But regardless, they saw no harm in being invited to dinner, so they had accepted.
Nathan gazed at their expressions for a second.
The thing was, He did not want his guests developing unnecessary relationships with the demons of the continent.
Their purpose for being here was to prepare themselves and assist him in freeing his wife, Irene. The only woman all of this was for.
Nathan wanted their attention focused on that purpose rather than becoming entangled in the affairs of the demons around them.
Still, after seeing the uncomfortable looks around the table, he let out a tired sigh and shook his head.
"It’s fine."
He walked toward the far end of the table and lowered himself onto one of the cushions.
After settling into place, he looked around at the others and gave them an approving nod. "Let’s eat."
Dinner began, though the atmosphere was still somewhat awkward after that exchange between Nathan and Lilinlea.
As the demons gradually began taking food from the plates around them, the guests followed their example.
Percival spent more time moving food around his plate than actually eating it, still struggling to get past the appearance of some of the dishes.
The others were selective with what they chose, carefully picking out anything that looked familiar.
Wilson, on the other hand, seemed to have little trouble with the food and ate normally.
Ethan was the least concerned of them all. If something looked like meat, he simply ate it. As a dragon, his appetite was more accommodating when it came to the sort of things he was willing to consume.
For several minutes, the only sounds came from the movements and chewing around the table.
Eventually, Jaenera decided to break the silence.
She turned toward Nathan. "Father, why don’t we ask our guests to properly introduce themselves? It is our first real meeting with them, after all."
She then turned her attention toward Ethan.
Isabella, seated beside him, noticed the attention Jaenera was giving him.
She had already noticed the lingering glances directed toward Ethan earlier, and this only added to her awareness of it.
Nathan looked at Jaenera, then turned toward his guests. After a brief pause, he gave them a nod, indicating that they could introduce themselves.
One after another, they began giving their names.
Most of them offered only their first names, keeping the introductions simple. One by one, the names passed around the table as the Krygon family listened.
Ethan was the last to introduce himself.
"Ethan Stark."
The moment he finished, one of Lord Krygon’s daughters, a black-haired demoness with red skin, immediately directed a question at him.
"Why do you bear a human name if you’re a demon?" she asked. "Although you do stink like a Taint."
Another demon child immediately chimed in. "It seems the noble had a child with an outsider."
Nathan glanced at the child who made the statement but said nothing.
"Careful," another voice warned. "This taint’s a lot stronger than us all."
Ethan found himself at the center of the conversation, and unable respond.
The family already knew he was a demon; that part could not be hidden as demons could also sense a kin.
And for those of higher standing like Lord Krygon’s children, distinguishing one who was solely a demon from a Taint was relatively easy.
They could sense when someone was not entirely demonic, though they could not determine exactly what the other half was. Human, elf, beast, or some other race—it made little difference. They simply knew that the individual was not solely demon.
And Ethan’s presence carried the scent of a Taint.
Taints were the Hybrids of Demon Continent.
The comments continued to fly around the table, leaving Ethan unsure of who he was even supposed to answer.
It seemed the children had been curious about his nature from the moment he arrived, particularly because the strength he possessed was very much unusual for someone they perceived as a Taint.
Jaenera then added a kinder remark. "For a Taint, you look good."
Her voice was sweet and calm as she glanced at Ethan. "I do like your hair."
Kimora, seated beside her, immediately joined in. "Sister Jaenera, it’s my hair magic that made his hair long."
Ethan had actually allowed Kimora to use the spell on him a few days after their arrival.
She insisted that the longer hair suited him better, and after realizing the child was his half-sister, he just went along with it.
Then, one of the male demons spoke with an openly taunting grin. It was a reply to Jaenera’s compliment.
"Jaenera, I can literally hear your vagina throb in desperation for the Taint."
Percival’s eyes suddenly widened.
The rest of them around the table struggled to hide their surprise at how bluntly vulgar the statement was.
