Chapter 84: Chapter 84 - Unpredictable!
(A/N: There probably won’t be any updates on Webnovel for the next two weeks to a month. I’ve decided to take a break from posting here because I want to focus a little more on Patreon and, most importantly, build up a good stockpile of advanced Chapters. During this period, Patreon updates will continue as usual, with new Chapters every day.
At the moment, I already have 30 advanced Chapters of DxD, and my goal is to reach at least 50 Chapters. Besides that, I also want to have between 15 and 20 advanced Chapters of my other stories, so I can work with much less pressure and maintain a more consistent posting schedule in the future.
The idea is that, when I return to regularly posting on Webnovel, I’ll be able to increase the schedule from one to two Chapters per week for each of my stories, instead of continuing to be limited to just one Chapter per week.)

A few minutes later, a soft knock echoed through the door.
"Come in..." Lord Astaroth said calmly.
The door opened slowly, and a young woman entered the room.
Almost no part of her skin was exposed, but the little that could be seen was of an impeccable white, similar to the purest porcelain, as if any trace of color had been erased from her existence. Her deep, serene black eyes were the only part of her figure that conveyed an intense sense of life, shining with an unusual intelligence. Her long, straight hair cascaded down her back, as white as her skin itself, delicately held in place by a black butterfly-shaped ornament. Anyone who beheld her would be immediately captivated by her extraordinary beauty, but at the same time, her mere presence awakened an instinctive unease, as if she were hiding something impossible to comprehend. Only her head, neck, and hands remained visible; the rest of her body was covered by elegant black garments. The contrast between the deep black of her clothes and the supernatural whiteness of her skin made her beauty even more striking and difficult to ignore...
Alear cast a brief glance at the young woman and, for the first time since the meeting began, a genuine surprise crossed his heart. It was not because of the extraordinary beauty of the girl before him, but because he immediately recognized her. That young woman was Echidna, the Witch of Greed from Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World! Even so, his expression remained completely impassive, revealing not the slightest trace of surprise...
He had always known that this was a world formed by the fusion of various universes. Still, until then, he had believed that most of them would follow a theme similar to High School DxD, which, at least until that moment, seemed to occupy the position of the ’main universe.’ However, Echidna’s presence showed that his assumption was wrong. The scope of different universes in that world was far greater than he had imagined...
Echidna walked to the center of the room with elegant and silent steps. As soon as she stopped in front of Alear, she gently held the hem of her dress and performed an impeccable curtsy.
"It is an immense pleasure to finally meet you, Archduke Häangenti." Her voice was soft and refined, almost melodious. "My name is Echidna Astaroth. For a long time, I have heard about your achievements and, ever since, I have come to admire you deeply."
Her words were impeccable, polite, and seemed filled with sincere admiration. At first glance, she conveyed the image of a gentle, understanding, and even somewhat innocent young woman...
"The pleasure is mine in meeting you, Echidna. Your father spoke a lot about you before your arrival..." Alear said calmly, observing the young woman before him, who appeared to be a little over twenty years old. He thought that if she really was the Echidna he knew from Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World!, she would be extremely valuable—worth recruiting...
Lord Astaroth watched Alear’s reaction attentively. The brief flash of interest that appeared in the Archduke’s eyes during the young woman’s introduction did not go unnoticed. A discreet smile of satisfaction appeared on his lips.
"Do not embarrass this old father in front of his own daughter, Archduke..." He said in a calm tone, turning his attention back to Alear. "So, what do you think? Is my daughter to your liking?"
"Not at all, Lord Astaroth. I merely commented that you seemed to have your favorites. I must say I understand; she really does seem to have quite a lot of potential..." Alear replied casually, without going into much detail. "...I can accept her into my nobility as one of my pieces. Is that alright with you, Echidna?"
Lord Astaroth almost felt a bottle of champagne pop inside his head. Internally, he was already celebrating in ecstasy.
’I won!’
’Family, are you seeing this?!’
If he weren’t standing before an Archduke, he probably would have started a celebration right then and there. However, outwardly, he limited himself to maintaining the posture of an experienced lord, sustaining only a discreet and satisfied smile, as if that news had not caused any disturbance in his composure. Inside, however, he could already imagine his ancestors applauding his genius. After all, the plan seemed to be working out much more easily than he had dared to imagine...
Echidna remained still for a brief moment. Then, a delicate, almost ethereal smile appeared on her lips.
"Of course, Archduke." Her voice remained soft and refined, but there was an indescribable satisfaction hidden in every word. "To serve you as a member of your nobility... that is, without a doubt, my greatest desire."
She performed another curtsy, as impeccable as the previous one.
"I promise to live up to your expectations. I hope to offer all my knowledge and abilities to you... and, at the same time, to learn everything this world still has to offer me by your side."
When she raised her head again, however, something had changed.
Her smile remained exactly the same: elegant, gentle, and welcoming. However, her black eyes had acquired an unsettling gleam. It was not the look of someone in love or excited, nor that of a young woman happy to fulfill a dream. It was the expression of someone who had just found a completely unknown phenomenon, a riddle that defied all logic and needed to be understood at any cost. Her practically infinite curiosity overflowed without any attempt to hide it. For a brief moment, it seemed as though she wanted to dismantle every layer of Alear’s existence, to analyze every thought, every secret, and every possibility he concealed, as if she were facing the most fascinating research subject of her entire life. For her, the thirst for knowledge was the very form of love, and that disturbing gleam in her eyes made it evident...
Alear simply held that gaze for a few seconds before smiling slightly.
Lord Astaroth, on the other hand, had to make a great effort to contain the satisfied smile that threatened to escape. Upon hearing his daughter’s response and seeing her accepted so readily by Alear, he felt an enormous weight lift from his shoulders. The truth was that, although his plan had always been to bring her closer to the Archduke by inserting her into his nobility, his daughter was, honestly, somewhat problematic. In reality, he had not lied when he said she had become a great fan of the young man before him. After all, ever since she had watched Alear’s battle against the assassins in the city of Agreas, she had shown an almost obsessive interest in him...
And it was precisely this insatiable desire to know the unknown that made her so problematic. It was this trait that had prevented her from being chosen as the heir of the Astaroth Family, despite her enormous potential and extraordinary power. In the end, nothing really mattered to Echidna beyond her own curiosity. Unlike Ajuka, who directed all his obsession toward the advancement of his scientific research, Echidna wanted to understand absolutely everything. There was not a single field of knowledge capable of satisfying her. Magic, alchemy, biology, politics, history, Sacred Gears, supernatural phenomena, different races... anything that involved a mystery or something still unknown was enough to awaken her interest. And once fascinated by a subject, she simply would not rest until she discovered everything possible about it, regardless of the methods she needed to employ to achieve that goal.
Fortunately, the target of that obsession was now precisely the Archduke before him. All that remained was to hope that she would fulfill the part they had agreed upon: get close to Alear, win him over, and, in the future, give birth to a son of his...
"Wonderful..." he murmured, unable to hide his joy. "Archduke Häangenti, would you like to do the honors and reincarnate her right now?"
"Right now? Very well..." Alear replied calmly. He raised his right hand, and a light pink magic circle appeared above his palm, spinning gently as an Evil Piece materialized in his hand.
It was a Bishop Piece.
Originally, he had reserved that piece for Lavinia Reni, one of his future candidates for nobility. However, upon observing Echidna, he concluded that she was a much more suitable choice. Like Mio, she was someone whose talent was directed almost entirely toward magic. He could sense that her demonic power was vast and that her control over that energy was almost comparable to his own. In terms of magical efficiency, she fell short only of him, who was practically unmatched in that aspect. She was, without a doubt, an extremely rare talent...
Echidna averted her gaze from the piece for a brief moment, only to stare at Alear again. There was an almost childlike gleam in her black eyes, although anyone who knew her would realize that it was nothing more than the manifestation of her insatiable curiosity in the face of something unknown.
"Is there anything I need to do, Archduke?" she asked with a smile.
"There is no need to do anything," Alear answered calmly. "Just stay still."
Echidna nodded without the slightest hesitation.
"Understood."
Alear then slowly extended his hand toward her. In the next instant, the Bishop Evil Piece detached from his fingers and floated silently through the air, enveloped by a delicate light pink glow. The piece advanced until it stopped in front of Echidna’s chest and, without encountering any resistance, passed through her garments and fused with her body. At the same moment, an elaborate pink-colored magic circle expanded beneath her feet, filling the entire room with an intense yet perfectly controlled demonic pressure.
Echidna’s demonic power began to grow at an impressive speed, spreading invisible waves throughout the environment as the reincarnation ritual progressed. A few moments later, the process came to an end. She remained silent for a brief moment, visibly surprised by how easily everything had happened. She could also easily deduce that she had become much stronger, but she encountered no difficulty in controlling this new power. By all indications, becoming the servant of the young man who had captured her attention had been the right decision. Although strength in itself had never been something she cared much about, it was still indispensable for realizing her ambitions...
"Now that I have become your servant..." she said in a soft, almost melodious voice, "should I call you Alear-sama? Or would you prefer that I call you Master?"
Alear responded naturally, as if the question were of little importance.
"You may call me however you prefer. As for me, I will simply call you Echidna. Is that alright with you?"
The young woman’s smile became a little warmer.
"Yes. Feel free to call me whatever you wish as well, Alear-sama..."
Satisfied with the answer, Alear turned his attention back to Lord Astaroth. With a simple wave of his hand, a magic circle appeared before him, from which a scroll enveloped in a soft glow emerged. The document floated slowly until it landed on the table between the two.
"This is the exclusivity contract we discussed earlier," Alear explained. "It is a Geas. Should either party violate the agreed terms, the punishments will be applied automatically. I consider this the safest method to ensure that both fulfill their obligations."
Lord Astaroth observed the scroll attentively, adjusting his glasses as he analyzed the complexity of the magic circle engraved on its surface.
"A Geas... interesting." A discreet tone of admiration appeared in his voice. "I confess I had never seen a magical contract of this type. It is an extremely sophisticated method."
Beside him, Echidna narrowed her eyes slightly and leaned forward, examining every detail of the scroll as if trying to memorize its structure at first glance. Her smile increased almost imperceptibly.
Without wasting time, Lord Astaroth quickly read through each clause of the contract. He found no irregularities and, using his magic, signed the Geas, officially sealing the agreement.
Alear made a second copy of the document appear, handing it to Lord Astaroth before storing the original. Then, he rose elegantly from his chair.
"It was a pleasure doing business with you, Lord Astaroth. Unfortunately, I still have some urgent matters to attend to. It is time for us to return..."
He glanced at Echidna, who understood it was time to leave and smiled slightly.
The lord nodded before turning his attention to his daughter.
"Echidna, now that you are part of the Archduke’s nobility, you will naturally live by his side. Is there anything you wish to take before departing?"
She simply shook her head in denial, maintaining her usual serenity.
"No. I don’t need anything else."
Then, she performed a respectful curtsy.
"Father... thank you for everything you have done for me until today. I will take good care of myself."
A slight proud smile appeared on Lord Astaroth’s face.
"Go... and make the name of the Astaroth Family shine."
Without adding anything else, Alear opened a teleportation magic circle in the center of the room. The pink energy spread through the environment as he and Echidna walked into it. A moment later, the circle shone intensely and disappeared completely, taking both of them back to the Häangenti Mansion.
