This cosmos can only barely be called a cesspit that doesn’t smell quite as bad.
Swarming Zerg, Undead apocalypses, Heart Stealers infiltrating, Demons invading, the Divine Tree descending, Apostles scheming...
And that’s not all. There are countless dogshit types who, despite the Venerable King’s path being so damn clear, just have to take shortcuts and do all kinds of dogshit things.
There really are immortals pointing the way and idiots lining up like hemp stalks, but this cosmos isn’t that foul, because the Venerable King locked up a huge bunch of even filthier bastards at the end of Subspace and is over there in eternal slaughter and struggle with Them.
Add to that the Venerable King’s ascension path is a clear, wide highway. Whether it’s the convergent evolution of the entire cosmos making intelligent life more and more like the Venerable King, or the fact that you just need to follow the Venerable King’s road to gain power with precision, all of this makes more people throw themselves into imitating the Venerable King’s path.
That’s what keeps the cosmos from stinking too much; at worst it’s at the Ganges level, not yet down to full-on cesspit.
So, as long as we kill off all the Apostles, we can turn this Ganges into a self-cleaning river, right?
Xue Dili was thinking exactly that.
"Brother Li, need my help?" Susu was also completely fogged out at this point, feeling like she more or less understood the plan between Xue Dili and the Mimic Venerable King. She even stepped up to ask.
"Not yet. But when we crush the Seventh Apostle, that’s when you unfold the Pure Land." Xue Dili said.
Even if Susu wouldn’t be of use on the frontal battlefield, for the Seventh Apostle, Susu—this one person who could open Margaret’s Pure Land—had the effect of soul-killing the Seventh Apostle.
She was the final step, the finisher.
...
So right now, the sky suddenly twisted like crazy. That "Evil Eye", whose true form was half-revealed by the arrangement of stardust, this Seventh Apostle, was in utter panic, because It was shocked to discover that what had appeared before It was no longer the sacrifices for that ritual, but four Tier Five monsters It couldn’t make sense of.
Tier Five is the dividing line between conventional creatures and Apostles. Obviously, even a standard Tier Five is nowhere close to an Apostle’s match, even the weakest Apostle, like the Twelfth Apostle type.
Because conventional Tier Five doesn’t touch Authority at all, so even if the raw stats are similar, Apostles are equivalent to having Authority that absolutely suppresses a normal Tier Five. That power lets an Apostle easily crush a normal Tier Five.
Only Authority can counter Authority.
This is common sense among Apostles.
That’s also why, when an Apostle gets killed, the other members of the Mist Council immediately suspect it was an inside job, since in the Interstellar Corps, aside from the Mimic Venerable King, the other Tier Fives don’t wield Authority. At most they can only borrow a tiny bit of the Mimic Venerable King’s Authority through Treasures.
But even so, when the combat strength of four Tier Fives instantly surrounded It, It actually relaxed a little. After all, It wasn’t at full power either, and in Its current tug-of-war with the Authority of Fear, if It fought at full strength, the backlash of Fear It would face afterward would be the real problem.
That was Its true endgame: devour the concept of Fear, then absorb all the Fear in the cosmos and become a Subspace Evil God truly active in the cosmos.
By then, even the Mimic Venerable King could at best be on par with It, but wouldn’t be able to kill It.
At that point It would no longer have to live under the nose of the Mist Council, nor fear the accountability of the Interstellar Corps. It understood Its own status as a Venerable King Fragment—this is the hottest piece of meat in the whole cosmos. Neither the Interstellar Corps nor the other Apostles would ever let It go.
That’s why It hid at the boundary between Subspace and reality to carry out this sneaky little Fear-harvesting operation.
As long as It accomplished Its goal, as long as It could ascend and become the Evil God of Fear, It would never again need to fear anything!
That sense of security was the lifelong goal It pursued!
But now, that longed-for sense of security seemed to have been shattered.
The four Beasts of human Evil locked onto their target in an instant, and in that moment, by leveraging the ritual converged by the Seventh Apostle, they pulled off their steal and successfully pinpointed Its true body’s location!
And at that moment, the "Pseudo Genesis" set off by the Four Beasts of human Evil erupted.
Space tore open right there, starting from the very center of the Four Beasts. The Mimic Venerable King’s giant Light sphere slowly emerged here.
The Seventh Apostle’s scalp went numb the instant It saw this. The Mimic Venerable King! The Mimic Venerable King of the Interstellar Corps!
For fuck’s sake! I’ve hidden all the way out here, so why the hell is the Mimic Venerable King still hunting me!
"This makes no sense..." Its voice rang out, because It could clearly feel some unprecedented thing eroding Its Authority.
No, it wasn’t this Mimic Venerable King eroding Its Authority, but another power, one completely different from the Mimic Venerable King.
Its control over this section of Subspace was being stripped away at this very moment!
Right now, how could It not get it? It had been played. Played by the Mimic Venerable King, and by those damn ants. They’d used fake sacrifices to complete the ritual to summon It, but the real purpose of those sacrifices was to complete another ritual entirely!
And most crucially, at this moment, even if It wanted to flee, those four Beasts of human Evil would instantly block Its path.
"Damn ants!" It vented Its rage on those so-called "veterans."
