The Kings of Hell did not gather lightly.

That is to say that no one could ever pretend the rulers of the damned convene for anything less than the threat of obsolescence itself.

Lucifer and Satan are the same being. Satan was his name when he was an angel in Heaven. It meant “light bearer," pertaining to his position as God's greatest angel. Lucifer means “the accuser," pertaining to his role after falling from heaven, where he accused us of all our sin and argued we were failed creations and such. The Seven Kings were originally high-ranking beings that resided within infinity. During their time in Heaven they developed a camaraderie with one another and often bonded over certain topics during discussion. Due to their high-ranking status amongst the angelic choir, they were revered and praised, with some even being chiefs of the choirs they were in.

However, it was not until Satan declared war against the all-powerful that they found themselves uniting as leading forces for the Morning Star's army of rebel angels. Each of the then-princes would rebel for their own personal reasons or beliefs. The only exception to that would be one, as he chose neither God nor Lucifer's side during the rebellion. These seven rebel angels individually fought some of the mightiest angels only to fall to their power, thus developing fiercely antagonistic relationships with said angels for eons to come.

Not really for this. They are the same. The thing is, this love cannot pretend it does not include the ancient terror of watching a mortal make mercy into infrastructure and leave the old order wondering if it was ever necessary.

They met in the fractured chamber where every concept of Hell bled into one—a place without fixed walls, where ice met flame, met endless desert, and met black water. The air tasted of sulfur, frost, old papyrus, and the metallic tang of forgotten prayers.

Satan lounged on his throne of melted crowns, wings half-spread, a glass of something that used to be holy water swirling in his hand. Beelzebub chewed on the remains of a particularly stubborn soul, flies orbiting his head like a crown of greed. Asmodeus sharpened his claws on the table's edge with theatrical boredom.

Hades and Persephone watched from the shadows of quiet judgment. Yama stood stern and unyielding. Yanluo Wang shuffled endless ledgers that now bore Karl’s name in red. Hel leaned against a wall of ice, half her face smirking. Mictlāntēcutli clicked skeletal teeth. Osiris sat in final silence, Anubis weighing an invisible heart beside him with growing frustration.

Satan spoke first, his voice smooth as poisoned wine.

Satan: The boy. Karl Omega Yang. The Axis. He walks out of Helheim carrying his own unfinished child and brings him home. He offers honest endings to gods and demons alike. My demons are filing complaints. Complaints! “The mortals are being too honest down here. It’s ruining the vibe.” That is to say that no one could ever pretend corruption is inevitable when the corruptor himself starts questioning the point of corruption.

Beelzebub snorted, flies buzzing angrily.

Beelzebub: My gluttony layer is half-empty. Souls who used to gorge themselves for eternity are suddenly… content. They’re sharing. Sharing! One of them told me, "Mercy trained for a hundred million years tastes better than eternal hunger.” I nearly vomited on principle. The thing is, this love cannot pretend it does not include making even the damned lose their appetite for damnation.

Asmodeus leaned back, grinning with too many teeth.

Asmodeus: Lust is worse. My succubi keep coming back rejected. The boy’s sister looked one of them dead in the eye and said, “I descend and rise for love, not performance.” Now half my domain is in couples therapy. Couples therapy in Hell. The thing is, this love cannot pretend it does not include making even desire feel… honest.

Hades rubbed his temples while Persephone hid a small, dangerous smile.

Hades: My realm was orderly. Quiet. Now shades are… moving on. Voluntarily. One old warrior looked at me and said, “I think I’m ready to finish this.” Finish it! As if death were a chapter and not the whole damn book.

Yama’s staff tapped once against the stone floor with finality.

Yama: Karma is balance. Now souls who should be paying for lifetimes of greed are achieving sudden clarity after “meeting the Axis.” The wheel of karma grows… uncertain. The thing is, this reality cannot pretend it does not require tension when a mortal teaches even the dead how to rest.

Yanluo Wang threw one of the scrolls on the table in disgust. It immediately turned into a small blue lotus and bloomed.

Yanluo Wang: One soul looked at me and said, “I think I’ve carried this long enough.” Carried it long enough! In Diyu! We are supposed to be eternal bureaucracy, not… group therapy for the damned.

Hel smirked, half her face rotting, the other half radiant.

Hel: My quiet dead are singing. Singing. The ones who died of old age and sickness are walking out of Helheim in neat little lines, talking about “honest rest” and “new beginnings.” The boy did that. The sister with three goddesses inside her is making my realm feel… optional.

Mictlāntēcutli clicked his skeletal teeth, his owl eyes glowing.

Mictlāntēcutli: In Mictlán they are laughing. Laughing at death. Spiders weave flowers instead of traps. Bats carry souls upward instead of dragging them down. The boy and his sister are making my spiders blush.

Osiris remained silent for a long moment, Anubis’s scales tipping wildly beside him.

Osiris: The heart-weighing has become… merciful. Too merciful. Souls who should fail are passing because they faced their unfinished pieces and chose to carry them home. The boy’s honesty is rewriting Ma’at itself. That is to say that no one could ever pretend justice alone is enough without the middle way walking through the scales and smiling.

Satan leaned forward, eyes gleaming with dark delight and genuine irritation.

Satan: So what do we do about the mortal who taught gods how to rest and the sister who carries three goddesses like it’s Tuesday? Because if they keep this up, Hell won’t be Hell anymore. It’ll be… a very long, very honest vacation.

The rulers of the dead looked at each other across the fractured table.

For the first time in eternity, the lords of every underworld felt something dangerously close to agreement.

They were losing their jobs.

And the two mortals from a small house in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, were the reason why.

Satan raised his glass in a mocking toast.

Satan: Then let us watch. Let us wait. Let the boy keep choosing mercy. Let the sister keep seeing clearly. Sooner or later the fractures will spread. Sooner or later even honest endings will need something darker to define themselves against. The thing is, this love cannot pretend it does not include the ancient truth that light needs shadow to be seen.

The kings of Hell smiled, stupid, dark, ancient, and strangely excited.

The honest new story continued.

But in the depths where even gods rarely looked, the old order was already preparing its answer.

And it would not be gentle.
