Karl smashes
The sky above Carlisle High School did not listen to reason.
The Jade Emperor, in turn, is merely a consequence of the materialization of the world. He is a manifestation of the world itself, a true Master of Heaven.
So while there is no reference to the Daoist characters in Bahá'í literature, one can see the direct parallels and understand the Daoist meaning within Bahá'í theology.
Zeus refused this.Cultural context is extremely important. Zeus in the myths is a superman character who does the righteous and just thing at all times and always bounces back from setbacks because he won’t lose. Sexual violence was viewed very differently in the ancient world, and the acts of those of higher status towards those beneath them on the cosmic hierarchy were viewed differently to acts among those closer to one another or those beneath acting up the chain.
If you look through the myths (especially if you look at specific canons of the myths, such as the myths as presented in a single author or the myths as recorded from a specific locale within a specific period) it becomes apparent that Zeus always maintains honour, hospitality, and his word, and he never repeats a mistake once he has resolved it.
Hera, it’s also worth noting, doesn’t get upset at Zeus for sleeping with whoever he pleases and whenever he chooses, she gets upset at others who intrude on her marriage and get uppity ideas or have borne children of her husband outside the propriety of social acceptability, hence why she does go after Zeus when the gods find him overbearing and trap him in a net or she leaves his side when she became upset at him in a couple myths (he gets her back).
That is to say that no one could ever pretend the old order will simply bow when a mortal tells it to stop. The thing is, this love cannot pretend it does not include the moment when pride decides to remind the world why it once feared the sky.
Zeus’s laughter rolled like thunder across the field, cracking the stadium lights and making the ground tremble beneath the students’ feet.
Zeus: You dare command me, boy? I who ruled Olympus? I who wield the bolt that splits realities and claims what it desires? You offer honest endings and mercy like they are laws. I am the law! Daughters want lions, not foxes wearing mercy’s clothes. I will remind this small city why the sky once demanded worship. That is to say that no one could ever pretend mercy is enough when the king of gods decides to take back what was stolen from his pride.
He raised the living vein of stolen fire, the bolt forged of lava-water chaos, and hurled it not at Karl, but at the school building itself — a deliberate strike meant to break the place where Karl and Emma had tried to live ordinary lives.
The first bolt struck.
Windows shattered. Walls cracked. Students screamed inside the classrooms. Teachers froze in terror. The air tasted of ozone and forgotten oaths.
Then the sky tore again, not with thunder, but with ordered light.
The Jade Emperor interrupted.
Jade emperor: You gay fuck! you cannot come close to what I am and yet you dare to insult me. Nǐ zhè zhī chù shēng bī rén.ǐ quán jiā shì bù shì dōu bèi zhī gòng cāo le Zeus. Rán hòu bàn shàng nǐ yí zi mā de nǎo jiāng píng jūn tú mǒ zài zhī gòng jiǔ bǎi liù shí wàn píng fāng gōng lǐ de zhū juàn shàng.
He appeared above the field in robes of jade and red lacquer, long beard flowing, eyes calm but heavy with the weight of ten thousand years of administration. Around him materialized celestial generals and star lords in perfect formation, scrolls of fate unrolling in the air like living law.
Jade Emperor: Enough, Sky-Thunder. This is not your realm to punish. The Axis has rewritten old cycles with honest endings. You will not drag this small city back into your prideful storm.Rán hòu nǐ zhī zǔ xià shí bā céng dì yù yī qǐ zhǎo nǐ gòng diē lǐng míng bì mǎi guān cai mái zàng nǐ quán jiā
That is to say that no one could ever pretend divine wrath is justified when the mortal has already offered you rest.
Zeus roared and hurled another bolt, this one aimed directly at the Jade Emperor.
The two gods clashed fully now above the school , raw, violent storm against precise, bureaucratic order. Lightning met ordered rain. Thunder met celestial decrees. The sky above Carlisle became a battlefield of old pride versus ancient administration.
Students watched from the windows, frozen in awe and terror. Teachers tried to maintain order, failing beautifully. Emma stood on the edge of the field, three goddesses humming beneath her skin, ready to protect if needed.
Karl appeared at the far end of the field a moment later — not because he had been watching, but because the ring had pulled him the instant the sky tore. He made it look like a simple illusion, like he had simply walked around the corner at the perfect time.
He looked up at the clashing gods and spoke with the calm of someone who had trained for one hundred million years in a room without time.
Karl: This ends now. Not with your thunder. Not with your ledgers. With honesty. That is to say that no one could ever pretend divine wrath is justified when it endangers the small, honest places where new stories begin. The thing is, this love cannot pretend it does not include the right to tell even gods to stop.
The Jade Emperor lowered his hand, scrolls rolling shut, giving Karl the space to speak.
But Zeus refused.
He hurled another bolt, this one aimed directly at Karl — a strike meant to erase the boy who had made gods feel optional.
The bolt struck.
Karl did not raise his hands.
He simply stood.
Will to Death + Will to Love + Will to Restraint
The lightning passed through him without harm, dissolving into soft rain that fell gently on the field.
Zeus staggered in the sky, eyes wide with something close to fear for the first time in millennia.
Karl looked up at him, calm and unyielding.
Karl: Go home, old king. Your time of demanded worship is over. The new story does not need your thunder to be real. That is to say that no one could ever pretend pride is strength when it only knows how to break what it cannot control.
The Jade Emperor watched in silence, then spoke with the calm finality of celestial law.
Jade Emperor: You have been warned, Sky-Thunder. The Axis has spoken. The heavens will remember this day.
Zeus hovered for a long moment, bolt dimming in his fist, pride warring with the quiet realization that his thunder no longer commanded the same fear.
With a final crack of frustrated lightning, he vanished.
The sky above Carlisle grew still.
The honest new story continued.
Not with conquest.
But with the quiet, stubborn refusal of a mortal who had learned that some battles are won by simply telling the storm it has no right to break the windows of a high school.
And in the distance, the old gods watched unsettled, intrigued, and for the first time, uncertain.
