In this spiritual world, the Zombie reigned supreme. With a mere wave of its hand, it could obliterate Wen Qingye’s Primordial Spirit. Even if it didn’t kill him, it could certainly leave his Primordial Spirit grievously wounded.
But seeing the Flying Corpse’s black eyes, Wen Qingye steeled his resolve, deciding to risk it all.
A wisp of his Primordial Spirit entered.
WHOOSH!
The entire sky was a sheet of pitch-black, exuding a desolate and majestic aura. Amid the darkness, starlight glittered brilliantly, yet the air was thick with the foulest miasmas of the world: ferocity, brutality, cruelty, and bloodlust.
An ordinary person here would have their mind shattered, losing all reason and turning into a mindless beast.
This was the Zombie’s spiritual world.
But Wen Qingye remained completely unaffected. "You should remember me, right?" he said calmly.
"I remember!"
A hoarse voice slowly echoed through the darkness. The form that gradually emerged was none other than the Flying Corpse. Its eyes, now holding a trace of lucidity, were fixed intently on Wen Qingye.
"Hidden Dragon, I recognize you."
"’Hidden Dragon?’ Wen Qingye asked, puzzled."
The Flying Corpse gave a stiff nod. "In my memory, you are him."
"Alright." Wen Qingye figured he must have been tinged with the Azure Dragon’s aura, which was what felt so familiar to the Flying Corpse.
Wen Qingye looked at the Flying Corpse. "How about we call it a truce? You know that if you continue this rampage, you’ll inevitably draw countless masters to surround and destroy you. Your death will be certain."
The Flying Corpse remained silent, its face an emotionless mask.
Wen Qingye pressed on. "With your strength, it won’t be long before you solidify your status as a Flying Corpse. Becoming a Drought Fiend is only a matter of time. Once that happens, I doubt there will be many in the Eastern Profound Domain who can stand against you."
Suddenly, the Flying Corpse spoke. "But with the thing inside that woman’s body, I’m confident I can become a Drought Fiend within a year."
Wen Qingye’s brow furrowed at the Flying Corpse’s words, and his curiosity flared. ’What kind of treasure is hidden inside Guu Hongxiu’s body? For it to allow a Flying Corpse to become a Drought Fiend in such a short time... Logically, it must be a Supreme Treasure.’
He mulled it over for a long moment before speaking. "I can give you a fragmented Magic Technique I happened upon, a Cultivation Technique created by a Wandering Corpse. If I do, will you stop coming after us? How about it?"
"’You mean it?’ the Flying Corpse asked urgently."
Magic Techniques for Zombies were practically nonexistent. These Cultivation Techniques often defied the natural order, and Zombies were typically slain on sight. Even if one managed to create such a technique, it would rarely be passed down to another of its kind.
Yet here was Wen Qingye, offering a Magic Technique created by a Wandering Corpse. Even though it was fragmented, the benefits for the Flying Corpse’s own comprehension—and for creating its own Cultivation Technique—would be incalculable.
Wen Qingye nodded. "That’s right. It’s only a fragment. You’ll have to perfect and adapt it on your own."
"’Why would you help me?’ the Flying Corpse asked. ’I’m a Zombie, you know.’"
Wen Qingye replied slowly, "There is nothing in this world that can truly frighten me. Fear of the unknown is just a fantasy born from one’s own mind, an amplification of one’s own terror. The same applies to you. Do you understand?"
"’I don’t understand, but I accept,’ the Flying Corpse said without a moment’s hesitation."
As if he had known it would agree, Wen Qingye extended a finger and pointed into the depths of the Flying Corpse’s spiritual world.
Instantly, countless motes of light drifted into the Flying Corpse’s spiritual world.
An indeterminate amount of time passed—it could have been a day or a single breath—before the Flying Corpse spoke again, its gaze on Wen Qingye. "Hidden Dragon, thank you for this Magic Technique. I will repay you for this."
"’You’d better just focus on looking out for yourself,’ Wen Qingye said with a smile and a dismissive wave. ’Don’t let people spot you so easily, or I guarantee they won’t let you get away.’"
’Although this Flying Corpse’s Lingzhi has only just awakened,’ Wen Qingye mused, ’when its mind is clear, it seems to be a creature of true character.’
"’No,’ the Flying Corpse said. ’I have my own methods for concealing my aura.’"
"’Oh?’ Wen Qingye was slightly taken aback. ’I didn’t expect this Flying Corpse to be so impressive. The ability to hide a Zombie’s aura... as long as it doesn’t suddenly lose its sanity, it should be able to walk among mortals without any problem.’"
After that, the man and the Zombie simply sat down together.
If any outsider were to witness this scene, they would surely be rendered speechless with astonishment.
Wen Qingye actually dared to sit face-to-face with a Zombie. A Zombie’s mind was notoriously unstable; if it lost its sanity, it would destroy everything in its path.
"’My memory begins when you and another woman released me,’ the Flying Corpse began, looking at Wen Qingye. ’After that, I started to wander, occasionally feeding on human Essence Blood, and my cultivation advanced steadily. But for some reason, one place held an extremely powerful attraction for me, as if it were constantly calling to me. So I went there, and you were there too.’"
Wen Qingye recalled something. "Xuwang Mountain?"
"’I think that was the place,’ the Flying Corpse said. ’At the time, my cultivation was on the verge of a breakthrough, making me extremely unstable. I lost control and killed some Buddhist Sect disciples. But at the final moment, one of them possessed a Supreme Treasure that instantly restored my sanity. The moment my mind cleared, I didn’t dare to cause any more bloodshed and fled the area immediately.’"
"’Ring Spirit?’ Wen Qingye thought, a particular person coming to mind."
"’After that,’ the Flying Corpse continued, ’I remained on that mountain, cultivating in seclusion until my recent breakthrough. Then my sanity began to slip away, and somehow I ended up here. I suppose the Supreme Treasure in that woman’s body instinctively drew me in.’"
Wen Qingye nodded. "With your current cultivation and the Magic Technique I gave you, it shouldn’t take more than a few years for you to become a Drought Fiend."
"’Until my next breakthrough, my mind should remain quite stable,’ the Flying Corpse said. ’If you ever need my help, just ask. I won’t stand idly by. Consider it repayment for the Magic Technique.’"
Wen Qingye smiled, not refusing the offer this time. ’He might actually need this Flying Corpse’s help one day,’ he thought.
Suddenly, the Flying Corpse looked at Wen Qingye and said, "Hidden Dragon, I have been in this world for some time. Why don’t you give me a name?"
’A name?’
When a Zombie is born, it becomes part of a new race, a separate life form from its original body with no connection whatsoever. Therefore, the Flying Corpse’s request for a name from Wen Qingye was not unreasonable.
Strictly speaking, one could even consider them an offshoot of the Witch Race.
Wen Qingye began to ponder. "Why don’t we call you... Feitian."
"’Feitian. Yes, that’s a good name,’ the Flying Corpse—no, Feitian—said with a nod. ’Very well. I must return to Xuwang Mountain. The pull I feel from there is far, far stronger than the one from that woman. I must uncover its secret as quickly as possible.’"
"’Very well. Then we shall take our leave,’ Wen Qingye said, slowly rising to his feet. He gave a cupped-fist salute. ’Until we meet again.’"
Feitian studied Wen Qingye’s gesture carefully, then mimicked the cupped-fist salute.
"Hidden Dragon, if you’re ever in trouble, come find me on Xuwang Mountain...."
