Mystic Calling:Stone of Glory

Chapter 1303: The Courage She Never Chose

Morvane hefted the broad sword back onto his shoulder. Real impatience finally surfaced in his voice.

"This is getting annoying."

Down on the ground, everyone kept half an eye out for Lopsy and Gravehook’s interference.

Ataneya pulled back the tails she’d been using to track Lopsy.

With that thing blinking around through space, chasing blindly would just bleed power for nothing.

Goddess Catheryn stepped out of the barrier.

Darkness bloomed outward from under her feet.

A brilliant black four-leaf clover appeared above everyone’s head.

Not just the allies, either.

Lopsy, Gravehook, the treant, and even the blood-red skeletons around them—all of them were tagged with the same black mark.

Even Lopsy couldn’t dodge it while teleporting.

The black clover hovered above her head, crossing space right along with her. Lopsy raised her scissors and tried to snip it off.

Snip.

The clover was cut in half.

And the severed black mist immediately gathered again, regrowing into a complete flower.

Lopsy cut it again.

Same result.

A few more times, and she was so furious she grabbed her own head, genuinely starting to consider whether she should just replace it entirely.

Nearby, Gravehook strolled through the fog like he had nowhere better to be.

He even lifted his own skull off his neck, cradled it in his hands, and examined the clover above him with interest.

Around him, blood-red skeletons stood in neat rows, waiting for him to pick the next batch of "collectibles."

Seeing that, Lopsy followed suit and cut her own head off.

The old head dropped.

Thread and cloth cords pushed out from her neck and rapidly wove a new one.

But the instant the new head finished forming, the black clover reappeared above it.

In Catheryn’s palm, an identical flower bloomed.

She lowered her head and blew gently across the petals.

The first leaf detached and drifted toward the battlefield.

Every skeleton soldier’s arms fell off at once.

Bones clattered to the ground. Weapons dropped with them.

The second leaf floated down.

Black fog rose under every skeleton’s feet, wrapping up their leg bones and crawling over ribcages.

The third leaf slipped free.

Death arrived.

The skeleton bodies were swallowed whole by darkness, leaving only the souls inside to drift out of the bone frames and hover above the battlefield in blank confusion.

The first patch of ice appeared.

One soul froze inside a clear crystal block.

Then a second.

Cold spread outward from Queen Elowen’s position, and more and more souls were flash-frozen midair.

Elowen still played with the juvenile sea snake coiled around her wrist like it was a bracelet.

Her fingers curled slightly.

Across the battlefield, the soul-ice blocks cracked at once.

A chorus of sharp snaps.

The ice shattered and fell, and the souls trapped inside dispersed with it—gone.

High above, Morvane wasn’t affected by the clover.

The moment he noticed the black mark over his head, he swung his sword without hesitation.

The blade passed across his own neck.

His head dropped from his body—taking the clover with it—falling toward the ground.

Ethan’s energy sphere was already closing in.

Right as the white ball was about to hit the headless body, black fog surged from Morvane’s neck. A new head grew in a heartbeat.

Blood-red eyes snapped open.

Morvane slashed horizontally.

The blade cut through the white energy sphere, splitting it into two perfectly even halves.

Whoosh—

The separated energy shot past his sides and detonated in the air behind him.

Morvane didn’t stop moving.

He shoved the sword hilt backward, grabbed the middle of the blade with his other hand, and spun the weapon.

Blood color and black fog gathered along the edge, power swelling explosively with the rotation.

The sword’s rear end smashed into Ethan as he closed in.

Bang!

Impact erupted between them.

Ethan lost balance and was launched backward, thrown like a projectile into the distant forest.

Morvane steadied himself after the white energy’s explosion forced him back.

He set the sword on his shoulder again. There wasn’t much anger on his face—just the tired resignation of someone being constantly interrupted. His blood-red gaze swept the battlefield below, and finally stopped on the juvenile sea snake in Queen Elowen’s hands.

That power felt... familiar.

"So it was that timid little snake."

Morvane’s mouth curved slowly.

"Hiding here, were you?"

He stared into the sea snake’s round eyes. His voice cut through the blood rain and dropped directly into the little thing’s mind.

"Since you’ve always longed to be brave... I’ll grant you bravery."

Morvane took the sword off his shoulder.

The blade traced a circle around his body, and pale green energy sealed along the path, forming a full-body barrier. The moment it formed, a faint, hard-to-detect connection snapped into place between him and the sea snake.

Below, the little sea snake that had been coiled around Elowen’s wrist suddenly lifted her head.

Tongue flicking, she stared straight past everyone—locked onto Morvane outside the shield.

The dumb-cute look in her eyes vanished. Even when Elowen tapped her head with a fingertip, she didn’t blink or look away.

Feylora noticed first.

She patted Kaelira’s arm and pointed urgently at the sea snake in Elowen’s arms.

The snake wasn’t just "looking" anymore.

She began coiling tighter and tighter. Something pulsed beneath her scales. Energy inside her surged at an abnormal speed. Her soft, small body grew rigid, like something was forcing a new shape from the inside.

Kaelira felt the connection too.

Purplish-red power erupted from her palm and compressed into a violent beam. It tore past the group and the flame barrier, streaking straight toward Elowen.

Elowen sensed the incoming line of attack and instinctively started to raise an ice shield—

but her focus was still on the sea snake in her arms.

The violet beam was already on top of her.

Elowen didn’t hesitate anymore. She thrust her arm outward and tossed the tightly coiled sea snake out of the flame barrier.

Kaelira’s attack chased it immediately.

The purplish-red light didn’t rip the sea snake apart. It wrapped the outside of her scales, forcibly scrambling the influence being fed in from Morvane.

But the metamorphosis had already begun.

The sea snake’s body swelled midair.

Small scales expanded one by one. Bones stretched. In a blink, her coiled body blotted out a huge swath of the forest.

When she hit the ground, she was already a sky-scraping python.

Her thick body crushed dead trees around her.

That massive head turned toward the barrier. Her mouth opened slowly, revealing a throat wide enough to swallow multiple people at once.

The timid little snake that used to dive into the sand the moment fog appeared was gone.

Whatever gentleness she’d had was gone with it.

Ethan—still flying after being knocked away—saw it too.

He understood immediately: that pale green barrier wasn’t just defense.

It was transmission.

He had to cut it.

Ethan planted his feet on the air. White lightning erupted along his legs as he turned back toward Morvane.

But the moment he got close, a ripple pulsed outward from the pale green barrier.

Bang!

Ethan slammed into the repulsion and was shoved back, skidding through the air. His coat hem snapped violently in the wind. He stomped down on several invisible footholds, crushing them one after another before he finally bled off the force.

"Morvane!"

Ethan raised both hands.

Two white energy spheres condensed at once, dense lightning crawling over their surfaces. He threw them one after the other, then gathered power again in his palms and charged along their path toward Morvane.

The first sphere struck the pale green barrier.

White light spread across the surface, and the connection between Morvane and the sea snake wavered for an instant.

The second sphere detonated in the exact same spot a heartbeat later.
