The tension in the room snapped, and the battle was on the verge of erupting.
Shin looked at the God with a relaxed, mocking smile. "Since we're about to throw down, it's only fair I know your name. I don't kill nameless nobodies."
The man, trembling with a rage so intense he could barely speak, glared viciously at Shin.
Then, abruptly, he threw his head back and burst into maniacal laughter.
"You are not worthy of knowing my name! However... if you die without even knowing who killed you, that would just be too pathetic."
"So I will do you a favor and tell you."
"I am the God of Death, Ankhseram! Tremble, mortal! Today, you will witness the true power of a God!"
Shin smirked. So it is a God after all. He hadn't expected to draw out such a heavyweight on his very first day here. However, Shin was acutely aware of his own situation.
His restored powers were only temporary. If he didn't take out this guy quickly, it was highly likely he'd be the one ending up dead today.
He had only just arrived in this universe; he had no intention of making it his grave.
"The God of Death, huh?" Shin said dismissively. "You don't look all that tough. Hurry it up, will you? I've got a tight schedule."
"I still need to resurrect that guy on the floor. If you keep running your mouth, I'm just going to slaughter you."
"Honestly, I get that you're a God, but to me, you're acting no different than a petty human."
"Gods aren't supposed to throw temper tantrums. They're supposed to be detached and emotionless. With the way you're acting, you're seriously bringing down the whole 'divine' vibe."
"Because of that, I know I can beat you. You can die just like anyone else, can't you?"
Ankhseram flew into a blinding rage. "You ungrateful, arrogant wretch! I will make sure your death is agonizingly hideous! I'll carve you into pieces, joint by joint!"
"We'll see who dies today," Shin shot back. "Parading around with that pathetic level of power and calling yourself a God... you're cracking me up."
"It seems you have absolutely no idea who you're messing with. Fine, I'll teach you a lesson."
Suddenly, Ankhseram produced a book radiating an eerie, pitch-black aura.
"Death Note. Origin Magic: Instant Death!"
Shin tensed up, assuming this was some devastating, world-ending technique. "Let's see what you've got!" he yelled, raising his sword to defend himself.
A few seconds passed.
Nothing happened.
No attack came. Shin blinked, then burst into hysterical laughter. "What kind of bullshit was that?! It did absolutely nothing!"
"Is that seriously your only move?"
"If a loser like you can call himself a God, does that make me the Father of Gods? Hahaha!"
Shin relentlessly mocked the so-called God of Death. Ankhseram, meanwhile, looked as if he had just seen a ghost.
His Origin Magic was the literal rule of this world! It was absolute! How could a mortal possibly be immune to it?
Then, realization struck him. If this man could casually touch the rules of life and death to resurrect someone, he had to be a master of the highest order.
'I foolishly thought he was just an arrogant, ignorant brat. But it seems I severely underestimated him.'
'My absolute rules have no effect on him. That means the man standing before me is an entity of the exact same tier as myself.'
'But why have I never seen this powerhouse before? Could he be from a parallel universe? No, a being this powerful wouldn't exist there either.'
Could he be... from an entirely different world?
At Ankhseram's level of existence, he was privy to the deepest secrets of the cosmos.
While they wielded the fundamental rules of this world, strictly speaking, they weren't the true Gods.
They knew perfectly well that the only entity truly deserving of the title "God" was the Creator.
But someone like that was beyond his wildest imagination. He also knew that this world wasn't the only one—there was a vast multiverse out there.
It was highly likely that the man standing before him was a God from another universe. Ankhseram's expression instantly turned dead serious.
"Who are you? Why are you altering the rules of this world? You don't belong here. Leave."
"That man is dead. Abandon your attempt to resurrect him. This isn't your domain. Do not assume that just because you are powerful, you can do whatever you please."
Shin laughed out loud. This is a God? Talking a big game but refusing to throw down? Is he actually scared?
"You are officially the most garbage God I've ever seen," Shin sneered. "I never imagined the deities of this world were such a joke. It's hilarious."
"Are you going to fight or not? If you're not going to fight, get the hell out of my way. Stop being a nuisance."
Ankhseram couldn't stomach the disrespect any longer.
"Even if you are powerful, I will slay you today! I never thought I'd meet someone so eager to die."
"You've opened my eyes. Fine! If it's a battle you want, I'll oblige. It's been centuries since I last fought anyway."
"Since our paths have crossed, let it begin!"
Hesitating no longer, Ankhseram readied his scythe. "Let's see exactly what an outsider like you is made of."
"Or maybe you're just all talk!"
Ankhseram dissolved into a black shadow, vanishing from his spot. Shin was slightly taken aback—as expected of the God of Death of this world, his speed was genuinely impressive.
However, Shin was no pushover. He wasn't someone you could just walk over.
"Hollowfication!"
Instantly, a complete Hollow mask materialized over Shin's face.
A surge of raw, unfathomable power flooded his veins.
But Shin knew that wasn't enough. Right now, his speed and physical strength were merely on par with this God of Death. Since he wielded the power of a Shinigami...
He would use the power of the Shinigami world to crush the entity of the Fairy Tail world.
"Bankai!"
In a fraction of a second, Shin unleashed his Bankai.
His blade erupted with a massive, blinding storm of lightning—an ability boasting the highest offensive power in the entire Shinigami world.
For a brief, terrifying moment, even the God of Death felt a suffocating, overwhelming pressure bearing down on him.
Off to the side, Lucy watched the clash. She knew she shouldn't get her hopes up too high, but deep down, she had an undeniable feeling that the man standing before her could actually pull off the impossible.
