Shin was slowly coming to realize that gaining power in this world wouldn’t be as straightforward as he’d hoped.
This was the world of Fairy Tail, a world of magic.
It was a world filled with mages wielding powerful spells. At the apex of this power were the so-called Dragon Slayers, God Slayers, and Devil Slayers.
Of course, that wasn’t the true pinnacle of power in Fairy Tail. The real heights were never that simple.
This world had the immortal Zeref and the infinitely powerful black dragon, Acnologia.
These were the obstacles standing in Shin’s path to ultimate strength.
He soon realized that if he wanted to gain power in this world, the path was simple.
He had to learn magic. Only then could he channel even greater strength. Otherwise, even if he had all the techniques in the world, they would be useless without the magic power to fuel them.
But how was he supposed to get magic power? Or, to be more specific, how could he become a mage?
That was the main problem now. If he could solve that, everything else would fall into place.
Once he had that sorted, his life would be a lot easier. Otherwise, if he ran into a powerful mage he couldn’t beat, it would be a huge embarrassment.
He glanced over at Lucy and spoke slowly, "So, what are you planning to do next? I’m actually pretty bored right now."
"But since I’ve decided to treat you as my little sister, your problems are my problems now. It’s just that there are some things I can’t exactly bring out at the moment."
"Are you going back to your father? If so, fine, I’ll go back with you. But if your father doesn’t know what’s good for him..."
"I’ll have to teach him a lesson."
Shin’s guidance had already softened Lucy’s feelings toward her father. She replied, "What are you talking about?"
"My father is the most powerful man in the entire empire. You’re strong, I’ll give you that."
"But my father is no pushover either."
Shin paused. He had thought Lucy was just bluffing, but what if her father really was the most powerful in the empire?
In that case, the empire was in a pretty sad state.
For a king to hold the title of the strongest... were all the mages under him just for show?
But that wasn’t important to Shin right now. He simply nodded slowly.
"Your father should know magic, right?"
"By the way, Lucy, how did you learn your magic?"
Lucy looked at Shin in surprise. "My magic? How did you know I’m a mage?"
"I haven’t used any magic since I met you. Are you really that sharp?"
Shin just smiled. Her Celestial Spirit Magic was so obvious it was practically screaming in his face, and she was asking him how he knew? Seriously.
"Alright, I knew you could use magic from the start. But what I’m interested in is how you learned it."
"Of course, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to."
Lucy asked with a puzzled look, "Why are you asking? Don’t tell me you don’t know magic."
Shin nodded honestly. "You’re right. I actually don’t know any magic."
"And I know you’ve seen my powerful abilities, but there are a lot of things in this world you don’t understand, aren’t there?"
"My abilities aren’t considered magic. And to be clear, I personally don’t know a single spell."
Shin’s claim that there were many different powers in the world was a complete fabrication. As far as he knew, this world revolved around one power: magic.
His own situation was just too unique to explain to Lucy, so he had to put it this way.
"There are some things I can’t tell you everything about. Some of it is classified, and you know how it is, Lucy."
"It’s better not to ask questions you shouldn’t. I really don’t want to explain my reasons."
Lucy gave him a sly smile.
"What are you trying to do, being so stingy? I’m your sister, and your sister wants to know why you’re asking. You won’t even answer."
"I see your true colors now. You’re such a stingy person."
"I never realized you were so stingy before. Hmph, I’m ignoring you now."
Shin was speechless. What had he done? He hadn’t done anything, and now he was being scorned.
Were all women like this?
"Alright, alright, I’ll tell you. You already know my power isn’t magic."
"But if I want to get stronger, I still need to learn magic. That way, my abilities will reach a whole new level."
"Also, can you keep my true strength a secret? I don’t want people to know how powerful I am just yet."
Lucy patted Shin’s shoulder and said slowly, "I know, I know."
"Powerful people always want to keep a low profile. I definitely get that."
"But there are some things you’ll have to deal with. You can’t stay low-key forever."
"Learning magic is actually quite simple. You just have to become a student at a Magic Academy."
"Of course, that’s just the first step."
Shin was baffled. He had no idea such a thing existed in the world of Fairy Tail.
He asked slowly, "What are you talking about? I’ve never heard of that."
"A Magic Academy? What’s that?"
"You don’t know about that, do you? Don’t worry, since my big brother asked, I’ll definitely have my father get you into the best magic school in the empire."
"Normally, you’d probably crush everyone there. But since you want to be low-key, I’ll tell my father you don’t know any magic at all."
"No, wait, my father should already know you exist. After all, you killed Jela—the one who was after you—and his commanders."
"I’m guessing my father’s attitude toward you is a bit up in the air right now. I’m not sure how he’s going to view this whole situation. It’s really hard to say, quite a dilemma."
"But you did protect me."
