The early morning in the Hidden Mist Village was still draped in a thin, lingering fog.

Terumi Mei appeared before the small house where Kitahara Kaede lived. She pulled a key from her pocket and, without a moment’s hesitation, slid it into the lock.

She pushed the door open and closed it gently behind her, her movements so practiced it was as if this were her own home.

Stepping into the living room, she glanced toward the second floor. It was silent up there; Kaede was likely still asleep.

The thought that she was currently in his sanctuary, and he was completely unaware of it, sent a secret, thrilling surge through her, making her blood run warm.

She stepped softly into the kitchen and tied on an apron. Opening the refrigerator, she found the ingredients neatly organized. In her memories, she had spent a long time studying culinary arts to make up for a birthday she had missed for him, though she had never gotten the chance to do so.

It didn’t matter. It wasn’t too late now.

Eggs sizzled in the pan, and noodles bubbled in boiling water. Mei’s movements were fluid and efficient. Soon, two steaming portions of breakfast were set upon the dining table.

She untied her apron, hung it up, and without lingering downstairs, headed straight for the second floor.

At the bedroom door, Mei grasped the handle, turned it gently, and stepped inside.

The room was dim, the curtains blocking out the morning light. Kaede lay on his side, his breathing steady and deep, clearly fast asleep.

She approached the bed without making a sound and sat on the floor beside him. Resting her crossed arms on the edge of the mattress, she propped her chin on her hands and stared unabashedly at Kaede’s sleeping face.

Her gaze started at his smooth forehead and traveled down, inch by inch.

’So handsome.’

Even after staring for a while, she still felt unsatisfied. Mei leaned in closer, bringing her face so near to Kaede’s that she could almost count every flicker of his eyelashes.

A mischievous smile tugged at the corners of her lips. She leaned toward his ear and blew a soft breath of air.

The warm, moist breath brushed against his ear.

In his sleep, Kaede’s brow furrowed sharply. His eyelids fluttered, and he slowly opened his eyes.

The moment his vision focused, a breathtakingly beautiful face—magnified many times over and wearing a dark, teasing smile—crashed into his field of vision without warning.

"What the—!"

Kaede’s mind went blank. His body reacted faster than his brain; he instinctively shoved himself back against the mattress, his back hitting the headboard with a loud *thud*.

The jarring impact woke him instantly.

"Terumi Mei! You... what are you doing here?!"

Mei leaned her weight further forward, looking at him with a beaming smile. "You’re awake? Good morning, Kaede."

"Is this the time for ’good morning’?!" Kaede lowered his voice, his tone a mix of panic and irritation. "I’m asking how you got in! Why are you in my bedroom!"

Mei calmly reached up and brushed a stray lock of hair away from her ear, her expression innocent yet self-righteous.

"I dragged myself here early this morning with an arm that isn’t even fully healed just to make you breakfast, and I even woke you up so gently. Shouldn’t your reaction be to say ’good morning’ and perhaps compliment me on how domestic I am?"

She tilted her head slightly, her smile turning playful. "Instead, you’re questioning me like I’m a criminal. Kaede, you really are quite unromantic."

Kaede felt a suffocating sensation in his chest, nearly choked by her twisted logic. He tried to reason with her.

"That’s completely different! This is my bedroom! You can’t just barge in without a word—"

"Alright, alright, I get it." Mei interrupted him, her tone bordering on the way one humors a child. "Just get up. I made breakfast; it’ll get cold if you don’t eat soon."

Her "you’re overreacting" attitude completely drained Kaede of his temper. He glanced at the door, then looked down at himself, wearing nothing but thin pajamas. He gritted his teeth.

"Then get out first. I need to change."

Rather than moving, Mei’s gaze swept even more boldly across his open collar and the faint line of his collarbone. She let out a soft laugh.

"Go ahead and change. I don’t mind watching."

"..."

Kaede’s face darkened. Unable to take it anymore, he grabbed the pillow beside him and hurled it at her.

Mei laughed and leaned aside to dodge it, catching the pillow in her arms. Finally deciding she had pushed far enough, she stood up and stepped out.

The door clicked shut gently.

Kaede sat on the bed and covered his face in despair. ’What is happening to my life?’

He rubbed his face hard and rolled out of bed. The first thing he did upon reaching the door was turn the lock from the inside. Only then did he feel a slight sense of security as he changed his clothes.

Once dressed, he opened the door and peeked left and right like a thief. After confirming the hallway was empty, he hurried into the bathroom.

Splashing cold water on his face finally cleared some of the chaos from his mind. He looked at his stressed reflection in the mirror and let out a silent sigh.

After finishing his morning routine, he headed downstairs.

Terumi Mei was already sitting at the table, her chin resting in her hand, watching him descend the stairs with a lingering smile.

Two identical breakfasts were laid out on the table. Golden fried eggs rested atop springy noodles, garnished with bright green scallions, accompanied by a steaming bowl of miso soup.

As the aroma wafted toward him, Kaede’s stomach betrayed him with a loud growl. He sat down at the table but couldn’t resist asking again.

"Where did you get a key?"

Mei smiled as if it were the most natural thing in the world, with no intention of hiding it. "I prepared this house for you in the first place. Isn’t it normal for me to keep a spare key?"

"..."

Kaede felt as if he had been choked again. He took a deep breath and changed the subject.

"Even so, you can’t just go into my bedroom. What if... what if I wasn’t wearing any clothes?"

At those words, Mei’s eyes lit up instantly, and she blurted out, "There are perks like that?"

Kaede immediately shut his mouth.

He gave up. It was impossible to argue any point with a woman who had completely abandoned all logic.

Mei handed him a pair of chopsticks, a hint of anticipation in her voice. "Try it. I spent a long time preparing this."

Kaede silently took the chopsticks, picked up a mouthful of noodles, blew on them, and ate.

The taste... was unexpectedly delicious.

"It’s good," he murmured almost subconsciously.

The moment the words left his mouth, Kaede regretted it.

Sure enough, Mei’s eyes instantly curved into beautiful crescents. She leaned in closer, her tone carrying a hint of uncompromising possessiveness.

"Since you like it, I’ll make it for you every day from now on. I’ll take care of every single one of your breakfasts for the rest of your life."

Kaede’s chopsticks froze in mid-air. He wanted to say something—perhaps "no need" or "that’s not appropriate"—but looking into those dazzling eyes, all the refusals died in his throat.

In the end, he said nothing. He simply lowered his head and continued eating.

Watching his silent acquiescence, the flame of possession in Mei’s heart burned even brighter.

After breakfast, the two walked out of the house side by side. As they reached the corridor of the office building, a figure approached them quickly.

It was Midori.

He greeted them first, then cast a complex glance at Kaede, who was wearing a Kirigakure ANBU mask and walking beside Mei.

"Terumi Mei, Elder Genji requests your presence. He says there is an urgent matter to discuss with you."

The moment she heard the name "Genji," the smile on Mei’s face vanished without a trace.

’He’s probably here to nag about Yagura again.’

A wave of irritation washed over her, but she didn’t let it show. She simply turned to Kaede and said in a gentle tone, "Kaede, wait for me in the office. I’ll be right back."

Kaede nodded and turned toward the stairs.

Mei stood her ground, watching his back disappear around the corner of the staircase. The gentle smile on her face slowly faded.

No one was going to ruin her current mood or her time with him.

Not even Elder Genji.
