National Guardian's Gone and We're Done
Chapter 566 - 407: Where is the Celestial Palace?Chu He felt an overwhelming pressure, like a landslide, wash over him, threatening to crush his very soul.
His heart tightened. Left with no choice, he gritted his teeth and abruptly cut off the flow of life force.
Only now did he truly understand that Amaterasu had not been exaggerating.
The power of those Upper-Rank Gods was terrifying to the extreme. A single glance was all it took to annihilate Lower- and Middle-Rank Gods as easily as crushing an ant.
And he was just a mere mortal.
Even if he was considered strong among mortals, he was as insignificant as a drop in the ocean before the wrath of a true Deity. He had no room to resist, left completely at their mercy.
Xu Fu, who had been standing to the side like a silent, observant statue, listening quietly to everything, suddenly moved.
He opened his mouth, and a beam of light—as pure as white jade and bright enough to illuminate the darkest night—shot out.
It was like an incomparably sharp stream of Sword Qi, capable of sundering the heavens, whistling from his lips.
The light seemed to have a mind of its own. The moment it left his mouth, it locked onto its target and shot straight into Amaterasu’s body.
Then, with a grave expression, Xu Fu spoke. "Quick! Use the Grass Cutting Sword. With the protection of the Three Great Divine Artifacts, you might be able to help her hold on for a while."
Hearing this, Chu He’s eyes flashed. Without the slightest hesitation, he released his grip on the Grass Cutting Sword.
’It was clear as day to him that Xu Fu’s actions were no coincidence.’
’This might be intricately linked to the mysterious fall of Qin Shi Huang.’
’And Xu Fu obviously knew some of the hidden details. The secrets he carried...’
’...were most likely related to the Deities and a long-forgotten past.’
Moreover, Chu He had noticed a fleeting look of doubt in Xu Fu’s eyes.
It was obvious Xu Fu didn’t want Amaterasu to die just yet.
What sort of mystery lay behind this? It was becoming more and more thought-provoking.
Chu He’s gaze hardened, and he decisively opened his tightly clenched fist.
In that instant, something miraculous happened.
The Grass Cutting Sword, which had been hanging in mid-air like a long-dormant beast ready to devour its prey, seemed to answer a mysterious and powerful summons.
WHOOSH!
It shot straight toward Amaterasu, who was trembling like a leaf in a storm.
Amaterasu was in a wretched state. Her body, once as exquisite as a piece of finely crafted porcelain...
...was now covered in countless long, thin, densely packed cracks.
These cracks were like hideous little snakes.
They were spreading madly at a visible rate, slithering and crisscrossing wantonly across her skin,
threatening to completely tear apart and devour this vessel that contained her Divine Power.
It wasn’t hard to imagine that,
once these cracks covered her entire body,
Amaterasu would flicker out like a lamp whose oil has run dry, swaying precariously in the wind before being extinguished completely. She would vanish into nothingness, dissipating between heaven and earth without a trace.
Just as their hearts leaped into their throats with anxiety,
a long-dormant volcano suddenly erupted from within Amaterasu’s body.
A surging, suffocatingly powerful energy burst from within her, a violent hurricane made manifest.
Everywhere it passed, the air was sliced by a thousand invisible blades,
letting out a sharp, piercing HISSS.
Within this energy pervaded a majestic aura that could make one’s very soul tremble.
In the unseen realm, a pair of eyes from a higher dimension of the Deities...
...was piercing through endless time and space, slowly awakening and opening from within her.
They held a cold arrogance, the kind that looks down upon all creation and presides over the fate of all living things,
gazing coldly upon the world, proclaiming the inviolability of the Deities.
Immediately after, an even more astounding miracle occurred.
The gruesome, shocking cracks that had been splitting open all over Amaterasu’s body...
...began to rapidly converge and heal at a speed beyond mortal imagination.
The sudden change was as fleeting as a meteor streaking across the summer night sky.
In the blink of an eye, Amaterasu’s body had managed to recover some of its former appearance.
But now, she was completely drained of spirit and energy.
A look of exhaustion hung over her like a heavy, oppressive fog.
She gasped for breath, her chest heaving violently.
Every difficult breath was like a thrilling tug-of-war with the Death God,
a desperate struggle for a sliver of life.
The brilliant, star-like radiance that once surrounded her...
...had now grown dim, as if crudely covered by a thick layer of filthy dust.
It had lost all its divine splendor.
Deep within Amaterasu’s eyes lay endless terror
and the lingering fear of someone who had not yet recovered from a nightmare.
She was like a frightened animal that had just narrowly escaped death’s door, utterly terrified.
The timidity in her eyes was impossible to conceal, evoking a sense of pity in anyone who saw her.
When she looked up at Chu He again, a deep-seated resentment was quietly hidden in her gaze.
’In her heart, she felt that if she hadn’t been forced by Chu He’s ruthless methods...’
’...to divulge so many forbidden, unspeakable secrets...’
’...how could she have ended up in such a miserable, nearly irredeemable state...’
’...almost having her soul scattered and vanishing from this world forever?’
"Are you all right?" Chu He asked Amaterasu, his voice as cold as ever.
"All right?" Amaterasu reacted as if she’d just heard the most ridiculous joke in the world.
She scoffed, her voice like a blade of ice scraping across glass, chilling to the bone. "How could I possibly be all right? Even with the protection of the Three Great Divine Artifacts, this is only enough to temporarily hang on to my life."
"Don’t you know? If it weren’t for some mysterious and inviolable rules preventing the Deities from descending directly into the mortal realm, I would never have escaped their wrathful execution for the secrets I’ve revealed today, even with a Divine Artifact in hand."
As she spoke, her body recalled the terrifying moment between life and death.
She began to tremble uncontrollably as a chill ran through her from head to toe.
"I, however, have a way to save you."
Xu Fu, who had remained silent like an ancient statue, as if uninvolved in the affair,
suddenly spoke, breaking the oppressive silence.
The moment the words left his mouth, Chu He’s and Amaterasu’s gazes were drawn in.
They both snapped their eyes toward Xu Fu.
Amaterasu, in particular, had a brilliant glimmer of hope burst forth in her eyes.
It was astonishingly bright, like the most dazzling star in the night sky, instantly illuminating her dim pupils.
This Xu Fu... who knew how many long ages he had survived in this world?
His own power was unfathomable.
And the secrets he knew...
...were likely beyond even Amaterasu’s comprehension.
’In her view, this old fellow Xu Fu might actually have some miraculous plan to bring the dead back to life and turn the tide,’
’something that could rescue her from this seemingly certain doom.’
"What is it? Tell me, quickly!" Amaterasu, burning with anxiety, took a large step forward.
Her voice grew sharp with desperation.
She was like a drowning person at death’s door, desperately clinging to the last straw, refusing to let go, her eyes filled with urgency and desire.
Xu Fu raised his head slightly and slowly uttered two words: "Emperor’s Qi."
