Netori Harem: New life as a hunter and gatherer
Chapter 367: The silver streakWhat difference could one man possibly make when facing more than five hundred people at once, nearly half of them awakened beings with years of experience in killing?
And what difference could he make when their objective had become so nakedly clear? They intended to slaughter anything and everything that stood before them.
Luke drew a deep breath as he stared at the crowd of men trampling over the bodies of their fallen comrades, showing not even the slightest hint of sympathy for the dead.
If anything, the sight of blood seemed to have only sharpened their bloodlust, leaving them eager to charge forward.
Kalish suddenly spoke up. "You are going too far. So many of your men have already died, and yet you still believe you can rule the tribe after this?"
Regath let out a mocking snicker. "It’s no longer about ruling anything, Kalish. It’s about my damn pride, and your boy has bruised it."
Luke’s eyes darkened.
Of course. As if he could have simply stood aside and allowed this man to trample over the village and harm his family.
Regath clenched his fist, his expression twisting with fury as he muttered, "This village won’t see a new sun. Everything ends right here and now."
He raised his arm and roared, "Kill them all!"
"Aaaaahhhh!"
"Raaaahhh!"
The ground trembled beneath the thunderous stampede of hundreds of men charging forward at once.
Some gripped weapons tightly in their hands, while others surged ahead with magic already gathering around their bodies.
Their methods differed.
Their strength differed.
But their intention was exactly the same.
They wanted blood.
Luke took a moment to glance to his left. The warriors on his side looked frightened, but they remained ready to throw their lives into the battle, even knowing exactly what it meant to stand here tonight.
To his right, Ilya and Kalish were both staring at the approaching horde. Father and daughter wore an eerily calm expression that seemed almost out of place given the situation.
Then again, perhaps they had already accepted what was coming. They were prepared to give everything they had in this battle, even if it meant dying here.
Luke closed his eyes for a moment and drew another deep breath.
He summoned his dagger and hammer, gripping one weapon in each hand.
For a brief moment, Monica’s face appeared before his eyes.
His teeth clenched as he prepared himself—
TNGGG!
"Aaaaah!"
"Huh?"
"Nngh!"
"Guh!"
Luke’s lips parted slightly in shock.
Every single person on the battlefield had suddenly clutched their heads. Some staggered where they stood, while others had already collapsed to their knees.
And it wasn’t just the enemies.
Those on his side had been affected as well.
For a fleeting moment, Luke wondered if some divine force had descended upon the battlefield, punishing every person who had dared to stain its land with blood while inexplicably sparing him.
But that thought was quickly dispelled when a familiar voice echoed inside his head.
{I have stunned them, but it won’t last long. Hurry.}
The female fox.
It was her voice, and this ability was eerily similar to the one she had used to torment him twice before.
Luke’s body tensed as realization struck him.
His hands tightened around his weapons, their weight suddenly seeming almost nonexistent. His eyes sharpened as he looked toward the stunned horde.
"System... I need speed."
The next instant, he burst forward.
For the first few seconds, no one understood what had happened. The effect of the stun was too overwhelming.
The horde was still in the open, hundreds of warriors ready to descend upon the village, yet the green-haired figure they had been charging toward was simply gone.
*DHAK*
Then the first body fell.
Luke appeared beside an awakened warrior who was still struggling to recover from the fox’s mental assault.
His dagger slipped beneath the man’s jaw and came out through the other side before Luke twisted away, already moving toward the next target.
Another awakened warrior managed to lift his head just in time to see two silver blades flash across his vision.
One cut his throat.
The other pierced his heart.
He dropped without ever realizing what had killed him.
Luke had discarded the hammer. Two daggers were simply better.
And right now, speed was everything.
He plunged into the formation.
There was no exchange of blows, no drawn-out struggle, no opportunity for the enemy to understand what they were facing.
Luke moved between them in a blur, both daggers working independently as he carved a path through the awakened warriors first.
One blade stabbed into a chest while the other slashed across a throat.
He twisted between two men, ducked beneath a sword that was still being raised, and drove both daggers into the attacker’s ribs before kicking the collapsing body away.
His domain allows him to not stumble and keep going even at this pace.
Another awakened warrior began to regain his senses.
Luke was already there.
*SQUELCH*
A silver flash. A spray of blood.
*Thud*
The man fell followed by another and two more.
The warriors around them remained oblivious, their minds still recovering from the strange force that had brought the entire battlefield to its knees.
Some groaned. Some tried to stand. Others merely clutched their heads.
Luke gave them no time.
He moved. And kept moving. His eyes were inhumanely focused and devoid of emotions.
His footsteps became almost impossible to follow as he slipped through the crowd. The moonlight caught his blades each time he passed, producing brief silver arcs that seemed to appear and disappear across the battlefield.
A man would suddenly collapse, then another several feet away, then three more almost simultaneously.
Nobody knew why or knew where Luke was.
They only knew that people were dying.
"Ghh..."
An awakened warrior finally managed to stand.
His vision was still blurry.
And through that blurry vision he saw a silver streak—
"Gaah!"
His throat opened.
Another man raised his weapon.
Luke ducked under it, crossed both daggers against the man’s neck and pulled them apart in opposite directions.
Before the body hit the ground, Luke had already crossed another ten meters.
His blades became extensions of his body.
*SQUELCH*
*STAB*
The stronger warriors fell first, their awakened bodies and years of combat experience meaning nothing against an opponent moving at a speed their predatory senses could not properly process.
Luke targeted every magical presence he could feel, appearing beside them for barely a heartbeat before leaving behind another corpse.
The battlefield slowly began filling with bodies.
Twenty.
Thirty.
Fifty.
Luke never stopped.
At some point, the glow from his body began to turn brighter. His hair faintly glowing as well.
His breathing remained steady, but something about his movements had changed.
The system wasn’t tampering with his stats and yet his speed kept climbing.
Though Luke didn’t notice that.
He only knew that his body felt lighter. Almost weightless.
[Warning: Estimated stunned effect remains thirty seconds.]
Thirty seconds.
Luke’s eyes narrowed.
He needed to hurry.
The silver around his body intensified.
Under the moonlight, his figure seemed to become less like a man and more like a streak of light crossing the battlefield.
His clothes fluttered violently behind him as he accelerated, and the blades in his hands became almost impossible to distinguish from the pale radiance surrounding him.
Another awakened warrior fell.
Then another.
Luke passed through a cluster of men so quickly that none of them even reacted. A moment later, blood began spraying from several different wounds.
The bodies collapsed one after another.
Luke was already gone.
A warrior screamed and swung blindly.
Nothing.
His companion turned toward the sound.
A dagger pierced his eye.
Another warrior tried to retreat.
Luke appeared behind him and opened his throat.
A third raised both hands to unleash his magic.
Luke’s blades crossed through his chest before the spell could form.
The slaughter accelerated.
The numbers climbed so quickly that even Luke had stopped keeping track.
He was no longer consciously choosing every movement.
His body simply moved. His instincts guided his feet.
His eyes caught movement and his blades responded.
His figure became a silver streak that tore through the army, leaving nothing but blood and corpses behind.
[Host, the effect is coming down.]
The system’s warning reached Luke just as he snickered and launched himself high into the air.
From above, he could see the men scattered across the ground, with corpses already littering the forest between them. Their formation had been thrown into disarray, yet there were still plenty of them standing.
And all of them looked up at Luke at once.
Luke took a deep breath.
His lungs expanded to their limit. His body trembled faintly beneath the strain, and every ounce of his concentration narrowed toward the attack he was about to unleash.
"DIE!"
BOOOOOOM!
The resulting blast erupted with tremendous force.
Several men were flattened beneath the immense pressure of the Concentrated Burst, their bodies collapsing instantly as death overtook them.
Others were hurled backward at terrifying speed, crashing into their comrades or tearing through the surrounding trees before meeting the same fate as their fallen brothers.
The backlash was no gentler on Luke.
His throat burned from the sheer force of his own voice, while blood trickled from his ears. He staggered slightly upon landing, the strain evident in every breath he took.
However, he has already done the damage by now.
When the dust settled, more than two hundred were no longer in the world of living.
