New Ability Every Ten Days: Becoming a Vampire Made Me Too OP
Chapter 128: Striking It RichMolten Spirit Gu Insects ranked third among the Ten Great Poison Gu. According to what Yu Xian had gathered from Qilin's database, the most terrifying thing about them was that the greater their numbers were, the higher the temperature of the heat they radiated.
On its own, a Molten Spirit Gu Insect could radiate heat of only one hundred degrees. However, when two of them gathered, the figure surged to two hundred degrees. If a third joined the cluster, the heat would spike to three hundred degrees.
Ten Molten Spirit Gu Insects released a scorching heat of one thousand degrees; a hundred, ten thousand degrees; a thousand, one hundred thousand degrees. So, if there were two hundred thousand Molten Spirit Gu Insects here, the temperature of the heat they collectively released would reach twenty million degrees.
Of course, this was purely theoretical. In reality, Molten Spirit Gu Insects could not radiate such strong heat because they had a limited sensing range. If these insects were pressed tightly together, the one at the very center could sense only the ninety-nine insects around it. Therefore, the actual limit of the heat radiated by a horde of Molten Spirit Gu Insects was ten thousand degrees.
Although that was not as exaggerated as the theoretical figure of twenty million degrees, it was still nearly twice the temperature of the sun's surface. One could imagine how terrifying that was.
The very instant the Molten Spirit Gu Insects began emitting red light, the temperature inside the crater rose at a terrifying rate. Wherever they passed, the ground melted into lava. So, while the Molten Spirit Gu Insects looked like lava to Yu Xian, they were also accompanied by large amounts of actual lava.
However, Yu Xian did not feel hot at all inside his bubble. The extreme heat outside had nothing to do with him. By its very nature, a spatial bubble was not affected by the temperature of the outside world, no matter how hot or cold it was. This was one of the properties his spatial bubbles had possessed from the very beginning.
The reason Yu Xian ran was that he was afraid of being surrounded and attacked by large numbers of Molten Spirit Gu Insects. While the primary threat of the Molten Spirit Gu Insects lay in the heat they radiated, their physical defense was equally nightmarish. Ordinary armor-piercing rounds could not penetrate their shells.
Molten Spirit Gu Insects ate the droppings of Blightstone Gu Insects. Blightstone Gu Insects were a type of gu that fed on rock. After eating rock, they would excrete droppings harder than diamond. These droppings had extremely high strategic value, and in the early days, the walls of some cities had been built by piling them up. To make it sound better, supernatural beings had given this excrement a less disgusting name: blightstone.
Not many creatures were capable of destroying blightstone. Molten Spirit Gu Insects, however, just so happened to possess teeth strong enough to bite through it. Because of that, even without their high-temperature trait, once enough of them gathered, they made for an extremely terrifying force.
Yu Xian continued downward. Behind him, the red light released by the Molten Spirit Gu Insects illuminated the entire shaft. Many strange creatures on the rock walls sensed the approaching heat and used their own abilities.
Ant-like insects crawled down the rock wall, somehow keeping up with Yu Xian's speed. There were also rats with drill-like growths on their heads, quickly burrowing holes to escape. Then there were the black melon-seed beetles Yu Xian had seen earlier. They gathered densely together, forming a large black ball that rolled rapidly down along the rock wall.
Yu Xian looked around in surprise at the increasing number of creatures and used his phone to record them all. Zhang Shou and the other viewers watched all this in silence, completely stunned. Nobody had imagined there to be actually so many creatures beneath the surface of the Red Planet. Not only that, they had formed a perfect ecosystem, with a tight food chain that kept the entire population thriving and multiplying without end.
As Yu Xian descended, a human skeleton embedded in the rock wall flashed past on the screen. Soon, more and more remains appeared on their screens. Some of them were enormous; others, small and delicate.
The remains were frozen in all kinds of postures. From the positions of a few, it was clear that the people they had once belonged to had been desperately climbing upward before death, as if trying to escape some danger.
Death Medic: Salted Fish, why don't you retreat? Something about this place feels wrong.
Number One: Death Medic is right. This place has Shadow Gu, Molten Spirit Gu Insects, and so many skeletons. Something is definitely wrong here.
Yu Xian had been watching his phone through one of his eyeball bubbles the entire time. Seeing that the two of them were worried about him, he smiled. "Don't worry. If things go south, I'll run without hesitation. Things are still far from that point."
He was inside a spatial bubble, so escaping was only a matter of a flicker of his thought. Because of that, he truly did not feel that he was in much danger. Instead, he was far more curious about what had happened here and why there were so many skeletons.
Ten minutes later, he saw the bottom of the shaft, illuminated by red light. More than two hundred skeletons lay on the ground in all kinds of positions. Just by looking at their postures, one could imagine that a brutal battle had once taken place here.
Fae: Looks like they fought among themselves over unevenly divided loot.
Fat Cat: Gold prospectors are desperate people to begin with. If they dared to come all the way to the Red Planet in search of gold, infighting isn't hard to understand.
The two of them reached that conclusion because scraps of torn fabric clung to the skeletons. Judging by the material, the victims had most likely been wearing matching uniforms.
Yu Xian landed at the bottom of the shaft and immediately looked to his right. There was another tunnel there, leading to who knew where. He immediately controlled his bubble and entered the tunnel.
Twenty seconds later, the Molten Spirit Gu Insects fell to the bottom of the shaft along with the lava. Many Red Planet creatures that had not escaped into the tunnel in time died in the lava.
The Molten Spirit Gu Insects followed the other creatures into the tunnel, both groups advancing through it at high speed. The tunnel extended in all directions, with many branching paths.
As Yu Xian moved forward, a gleam flashed in his eyes. He immediately thrust his hand out of the bubble and clawed at the passage wall. Amid a cloud of dust, he gouged out a coral-shaped gold nugget. Pulling his hand back inside, he smiled at his phone. "Guess how much this is worth?"
Death Medic: Holy crap, there really is gold!
Number One: You are insane! Are you risking your life for money?
Trivia: That gold nugget in your hand has an excellent shape. Based on the current market price of gold and with its artistic value factored in, it should be able to sell for four or five hundred million.
Fa: Salted Fish, up for a date? Sister here loves younger guys the most.
Piggy: The old hag is making her move on Salted Fish! Run, Salted Fish, run!
Yu Xian tuned out the chatter on his screen. He put away the gold nugget and continued observing his surroundings. Previously, he had given up on the idea of looking for gold, only for fate to lead him down a winding tunnel and straight to gold. And since such an obvious gold nugget had been left here, perhaps there was even more in this place.
He charged through the maze-like tunnel in every direction. In the process, he indeed discovered quite a few pieces of gold, both large and small. The smallest was about the size of a soybean, while the largest was the size of a car wheel.
Such a huge piece of gold made everyone watching the stream sour with envy. This was not gold prospecting at all. Yu Xian was practically picking up money off the ground.
However, everyone soon realized that Yu Xian had reached a dead end. There was no path ahead.
Fat Cat: Alright, game over.
Death Medic: Salted Fish, it's time to retreat. You've already made a fortune. There's no need to keep taking risks.
Piggy: Yeah, safety comes first.
Yu Xian read everyone's messages, but instead of retreating, he calmly turned around. Behind him, large numbers of Molten Spirit Gu Insects surged in like lava. The temperature rose rapidly, and the surrounding dirt and rock began to melt.
He looked at the Molten Spirit Gu Insects with admiration and sighed to everyone on the other side of the phone. "So beautiful. What a shame, I don't know how to control them."
Amid everyone's anxious urging, just as the Molten Spirit Gu Insects were about to reach him, he teleported into another bubble and continued forward along a different branching tunnel.
While rushing through the tunnel previously, whenever he had passed a fork, he had split off a bubble and sent it into the branching tunnel. Now, he controlled these bubbles to continue moving forward. If a tunnel he chose turned out to be a dead end, he would teleport into another bubble at any time and continue exploring. Mere Molten Spirit Gu Insects posed no threat to him at all.
When Zhang Shou and the others saw this, they were speechless. No wonder Yu Xian had been so calm. He had already prepared his escape route long ago.
Seventeen: Spatial ability users have it good. So much freedom.
Death Medic: Spatial ability users have it good. So much freedom. +1
Piggy: Spatial ability users have it good. So much freedom. +1
Piggy: Spatial ability users have it good. So much freedom. +1
Fat Cat: Alright, cut it out.
Under everyone's envious gaze, Yu Xian continued scooping up gold and advancing toward the unknown ahead.
