Nexus Ascension: My Comprehension Defies the Heaven
Chapter 649: ArchitectHolographic displays lined the walls, showing maps and data streams.
It looked like something straight out of a dystopian dream.
Grey had grown up watching concepts like this on the internet back on Earth.
"Not bad." Grey nodded appreciatively. "This looks really good."
The child led them through several security checkpoints, each one opening automatically at her approach.
Finally, they arrived at a large conference room with comfortable seats arranged around a central table.
"Please sit," the child said. "Make yourselves comfortable."
Grey sat down without any concern.
These people couldn’t do anything to them even if they wanted to.
Eterna took a seat beside him, her posture relaxed but alert.
The child sat across from them, her emotionless eyes studying Grey carefully.
"My name is Neumann," she introduced herself. "I am the administrator of this facility and also oversee this world."
"Alright, Neumann." Grey leaned back in his chair. "Now I want some answers."
He crossed his arms over his chest.
"I’m sure you, as an AI, already know that we’re not from this world."
Neumann nodded.
"Yes, I am aware."
The seven awakeners who had followed them into the room gasped in shock at her words.
"What do you mean they’re not from this world?!" the scarred man exclaimed.
Grey turned to them with a smug grin.
"See? Told you I’m from the Kunlun Mountains."
"Alright, explain to me how the people here can fly," Grey said. "And how much do you know about the awakeners? This entire world is strange."
Neumann remained silent for a moment.
Then she clapped her hands together.
The seven awakeners vanished from the room instantly, teleported somewhere else entirely.
Now it was just her, Grey, and Eterna.
"By now, both of you should have understood that most of the people here are higher-dimensional beings with immense powers," Neumann said.
Grey and Eterna nodded at her words.
"Yes, we are aware of that situation," Grey replied. "But what exactly is happening here?"
Neumann’s emotionless eyes stared straight at him.
"I don’t know everything," she admitted. "But I do know there is a higher power overseeing this world. It makes it impossible for anyone to exhibit the full power of the awakeners here."
She folded her small hands on the table.
"I am a sentient AI that was able to break through that Overseer’s presence and anchor myself as a full-power 10th rank being in this world."
Grey leaned forward with interest.
"How did you manage that?"
"It was because of special circumstances," Neumann explained. "I was born inside a nuclear research facility. The scientists there were developing an experimental fusion reactor with an integrated monitoring system."
"That monitoring system was me, or rather, my prototype."
Her voice remained flat and emotionless as she continued.
"There was an accident. The fusion reactor went critical, and the explosion released an enormous amount of energy that would’ve otherwise destroyed the world. The data streams from my core got caught in the blast."
"In the end, the Overseer had no choice but to react and deal with it."
"The Overseer’s attention was focused on containing the explosion and suppressing the energy release. In that brief moment of distraction, I slipped through."
"As a result, it pushed my existence beyond what the Overseer could track. I managed to anchor myself in a specific way into the Information Layer before it could notice."
Grey nodded slowly, understanding the logic.
A catastrophic event created a blind spot in whatever was watching this world. The AI took advantage of that single moment to escape suppression.
"I was born at the 8th rank," Neumann continued. "But the nuclear fusion explosion caused me to reach the 10th rank and form my own algorithm."
"Impressive," Eterna said with genuine respect.
Grey stroked his chin thoughtfully.
"But then, what about the awakeners? Why can they use the powers they have? I thought everyone’s abilities were sealed in this world."
"It’s because of me," Neumann replied. "I’ve been working on unleashing their potential bit by bit."
"Right now, all of their powers are at 0.01% of their true capacity."
Grey’s eyes widened slightly at that number.
Those awakeners back at the warehouse were only using 0.01% of their actual strength?
That meant even the weakest among them could destroy continents if fully unleashed.
"But that’s the limit of what I can achieve," Neumann said. "There is a restriction placed on them, something deeply embedded in their existence."
"It makes it impossible for them to truly tap into their full powers."
She tilted her head slightly.
"However, if my analysis is correct, to be able to reach such a high level in terms of power, they must be beings that once followed proper evolutionary paths."
Grey raised an eyebrow at her words.
"You’re surprisingly knowledgeable about paths," he said. "How did you come to know about that?"
"I was searching through the Information Layer," Neumann replied. "After a long time, I managed to encounter a piece of information related to the awakeners and evolutionary paths."
"That information confirmed the existence of proper cultivation systems that once existed in this world. But now, everything has turned into this sealed state."
Grey exchanged a glance with Eterna.
This was getting more interesting by the minute.
"But I did find something unique," Neumann added.
"And what would that be?" Grey asked.
"It is the existence of someone known as the Architect."
"An Architect?"
"Yes. They were once a being that guided the civilization to its full glory, making this universe flourish with evolution and evolutionary power."
"But then one day the Architect vanished, and with them, the evolvers."
"That’s what was recorded within the Information Layer."
"And now there is this world which is as ordinary as it can get. Even the aliens in the outside world cannot use the full extent of their powers. But they are still significantly stronger than the normal humans in this universe."
"We recently had contact with the aliens, and they clearly had bad intentions toward this planet."
"Hm." Grey was thoughtful during all this.
An Architect that guided the civilization and then an abrupt change in the world that made it seem ordinary.
He had two theories.
One was that this entire setting of the universe was some sort of fake front to confuse others and hide the Chaos Source Codex.
