Nightmare Apostle

Chapter 1994 - 1128: Gu Chongshan 2

As expected, feeling both honored and surprised, as soon as he got off the plane, he saw a car waiting nearby, with a team of people standing scattered in front of it.

These people seemed well-trained, all dressed in the black uniforms of the Patrol Defense Office, without any corresponding rank insignia.

The person leading them was a middle-aged man taller than himself by half a head. Upon seeing Yang Xiao, he approached with a polite yet distant smile, displaying great professionalism: "Mr. Yang, we are here under orders to await you, the chief wants to see you."

Meanwhile, Yang Xiao noticed the cargo from the airplane’s hold was also being unloaded, handed over to another team who repeatedly checked it with instruments to confirm there was no danger, before transferring it to another vehicle, accompanied by specialized technical personnel.

Without saying a word, Yang Xiao was immediately taken to a building not far from the airport to rest. Before he left, the middle-aged captain in charge of picking him up gently reminded him to take a shower, tidy himself up, then change into the new uniform prepared for him, and not to leave, but to wait in the room.

The chief is currently busy and will only have time to meet him after finishing, so he should always be ready.

The greatest advantage Yang Xiao had in reaching this point was his ability to take advice, and according to the arrangement made by the middle-aged captain, he tidied himself up, then sat in the room waiting.

The wait lasted four hours, but Yang Xiao did not utter a word of complaint, nor did he dare to. He understood that the person meeting him this time was definitely a big wig in the General Bureau.

He didn’t expect to be suddenly brought to the General Bureau, as before boarding the plane, the staff had told him the destination was Qinglan City Airport, which was his original arrangement.

Thinking that the person about to meet him might actually be Chief Yue from the General Bureau, Yang Xiao felt both excited and apprehensive, as it would be the first time he met an Innate Nine Treasures holder other than himself.

The Director of the Patrol General Bureau was a figure akin to an immortal, a significant figure whose every move could shake the entire country.

"Report: Captain Yang Xiao from the Third Law Enforcement Team of Jiangbei Province Office is requesting an audience with Chief Yue!"

"No, no, it should be ’Respected... Respected Chief Yue...’ "

"Once again, report! Captain Yang Xiao from the Third Law Enforcement Team of Jiangbei Province Office is requesting an audience with the Respected Chief Yue!"

"It seems... it still lacks something." Yang Xiao furrowed his brows, pacing back and forth rehearsing in the room.

Suddenly, the phone rang. Yang Xiao swiftly moved to the telephone, took a deep breath, and picked up the receiver.

Half an hour later, Yang Xiao was transported into a heavily guarded private residence. As soon as he got out of the car, he sensed cold, scrutinizing gazes shooting from a distance.

Soon, Yang Xiao was led into an office-like room, where he clearly saw the sign for the adjutant’s office.

As the door opened, Yang Xiao’s eyes lit up. Behind the desk sat a neatly dressed young man.

The young man had silver hair, a stark contrast to the black uniform of the Patrol Defense Office. His face, not inferior in looks to Yang Xiao’s, remained calm, unemotional, and even his gaze carried a scrutinizing intent.

"Secretary Qu, Mr. Yang is here," the person who brought Yang Xiao said politely.

"Thank you for your hard work." Qu Mu Zhi nodded in acknowledgment, his tone polite yet distant.

It wasn’t until those people left that Qu Mu Zhi walked over, first closing the door before returning a familiar smile to Yang Xiao. "What, don’t you recognize me after not seeing me for a while?"

"I’d recognize you even if you turned to ash!" Yang Xiao laughed and scolded, being sensible enough to know to be more cautious in a place like this.

This wasn’t Rongcheng; this was Shangjing, the Patrol General Bureau, under the Emperor’s feet. The complexity of the situation here was beyond his imagination.

And Qu Mu Zhi’s identity was quite sensitive. He seemed to be the chief’s adjutant secretary, and it was essential to be cautious in such a place.

"Not bad, your rank’s advancing really fast." Yang Xiao noticed the brand-new uniform marking the same rank as his own, both being second-level full-time.

Yang Xiao genuinely felt happy for him. Counting Fu Qingzhu’s promotion to Vice President of the Rongcheng Union and Specialist at the Three-party Action Bureau, the three brothers had all made something of themselves, gaining prominence.

"There’s no time to catch up, let’s cut to the chase." Qu Mu Zhi glanced towards the door with a serious expression: "Listen up, the chief who will meet you soon is named Gu, Gu Chongshan, currently the Deputy Director of the Patrol General Bureau, and the General Commander of the Second Action Team, also my superior."

"Director Gu is practical-minded, appreciates achievements in battle, and especially dislikes sycophants; your usual tactics won’t work here."

"Remember, be straightforward with him, he is a top high-level apostle, one of the top fighters in our Patrol General Bureau lineup, and your tricks won’t fool him."

"Thank you!" Yang Xiao took a deep breath, knowing this was his good brother trying to help him, giving him secret advice to leave a good impression before Director Gu.

"Mm, don’t be nervous, I’ll be there too." Qu Mu Zhi nodded encouragingly. He had arranged for Captain Xiao to bring Yang Xiao here to advise him in person.

He knew his brother’s personality too well; while his martial skill might not be top-notch, his ability to flatter and pander and read people was unmatched in Rongcheng.

This approach wasn’t inherently bad but depended on the person; meeting Director Gu with such tactics would be marching directly into trouble.

And Director Gu’s word could determine Yang Xiao’s future path.

"Alright, follow me." Qu Mu Zhi opened the door and led the way.

Through the corridor, there was a double-door office that, although not luxurious, gave Yang Xiao a very special feeling.

Qu Mu Zhi first entered to report, then Yang Xiao followed. The interior furnishings of the office were rather old, but it was spacious enough, and behind an age-old desk sat an elder with gray-white hair.

Dressed in a century-old Patrol Defense Office uniform that had been out of style for over twenty years, with some sewing traces around the collar.

The elder had a tall and slightly chubby build, very white skin, a standard sitting posture, and eagle-like sharp eyes, making it intimidating just being seated there.

Being scrutinized by those eyes, Yang Xiao felt as if all his secrets had been laid bare, his breathing and heartbeat suppressed, making it hard to breathe.

"Director Gu, hello, I am Yang Xiao, currently serving as Captain of the Third Law Enforcement Team at Jiangbei Province Office, ordered to carry out a mission to Japan’s Kusunoki Family, having completed the mission, I am reporting back for your instructions." Yang Xiao introduced himself formally.

"Not bad, at an Upper Ghost Level of spiritual power at your age is not easy." Director Gu said naturally.

"You flatter me."

"Relax a bit. Mu Zhi has spoken to me about you. You’re an orphan, without father or mother; reaching this stage hasn’t been easy."

"I’ve read your file. You haven’t been with our Patrol Defense Office for long but have made many meritorious deeds, having slain enough Evil Cultivators to form an enhanced platoon."

"Your former Director had high praise for you, saying you’re a righteous, grateful person." Director Gu remarked.

"Thanks to my brothers below fighting hard, allowing me to receive this hollow fame. Director Nalan showed great kindness and care for me." Yang Xiao responded.

"Captain Yang, your mission completion went well. Clan Leader Jiu Shan sent a special report to headquarters, stating you’re a rare talent, recommending a significant role for you at the General Bureau."

"I’m someone who doesn’t like those dry reports, tell me about what you saw on your mission, I heard you encountered an attack, what’s that about?" Director Gu leaned back slightly in his chair.

After thinking for a moment, Yang Xiao chose to report the most important issue first: "Director Gu, I have important military intelligence to report regarding the Southwest Branch’s Helmsman True Person of the Black Buddha Mother Sect, the Half Compassion Purple Body Buddha. I was attacked by them, but fortunately, Senior Jiu Shan led a team to repel them, otherwise, I wouldn’t have returned."

"Who?!" Director Gu exclaimed, immediately questioning sharply.
