Nightmare Apostle

Chapter 2025 - 1144: Jiangbei Speaker (Part 2)

Seeing Han Li, Grandmaster Han was furious. He rushed forward and fiercely struck Han Li’s head with his cane.

"You beast! You foolish beast! How dare you harm Mr. Yang? How many lives do you think you have? Were it not for Mr. Yang’s magnanimity, you’d have been long dead and gone without a trace!"

Grandmaster Han’s eyes were red as he struck blow after blow, until an elderly man, resembling a butler, desperately intervened to stop him.

"Grandfather, grandfather, I was wrong, I... I won’t dare to do it again! Please, beg Mr. Yang to spare me just this once, please... I won’t dare to disobey again. I’ll listen to whatever you say in the future."

Han Li was terrified of Yang Xiao’s methods and never wanted to return to that dark, terrifying secret chamber. Yang Xiao was too frightening, purely twisted.

Once Han Li had considered himself an expert in coercive interrogation, but after witnessing Yang Xiao today, he realized his previous efforts were in vain. His small tricks seemed as gentle and tender as a Han-style spa compared to Yang Xiao.

"Mr. Yang, leave this little beast to me; I’ll provide you with a satisfactory resolution."

"From this day forward, you’ll be a benefactor to the Han Family, and we will follow your lead." Grandmaster Han made it clear that the future support for Yang Xiao to become the Jiangbei Speaker would be unwavering.

"I heard a long time ago that Golden Spear Master Han is a reasonable man. I believe I can trust your words, right?" Yang Xiao emphasized once more.

"Of course, that’s for sure. We wouldn’t dare deceive you, Mr. Yang; you are our Han family’s great benefactor," Grandmaster Han showed ample respect toward Yang Xiao.

"Han Chen was your son. Although he didn’t die at my hand, he died because of me. Do you not resent me?" Yang Xiao asked.

"I’m grateful to you, there’s no resentment. He conspired to betray, and such treachery deserves death. Had I known his plan in advance, I’d have acted myself, saving Mr. Yang from further trouble," Grandmaster Han declared righteously.

"Very well, Grandmaster Han truly understands reason and righteousness, admirable," Yang Xiao was very satisfied.

After settling some of the details, Yang Xiao was ready to leave, but a slight incident occurred at the last moment.

Just as Vice Commissioner Zhao was about to receive the briefcase containing matters of personal consequence, the servant ignored him and handed the briefcase directly to Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao didn’t stand on ceremony, picked it up and left, and after a moment’s hesitation, Vice Commissioner Zhao quickly followed.

The two each got into their cars and left the Han family mansion, driving down the mountain until they stopped in a quiet and deserted place.

Vice Commissioner Zhao’s car closely followed behind Yang Xiao’s car; both stopped almost simultaneously at a distance of less than 5 meters, extinguishing the car lights in what seemed like an unspoken understanding.

Pushing open the car door, Yang Xiao stepped out with the briefcase, and Vice Commissioner Zhao followed suit, walking down in the moonlit night, where Yang Xiao could still clearly see Vice Commissioner Zhao’s slightly shining eyes and the wrinkles around his eye corners.

"Younger Brother Yang, why rush so fast? Your brother here... struggled to keep pace," Vice Commissioner Zhao said with a forced grin, facing Yang Xiao yet staring intently at the briefcase in Yang Xiao’s hands; that was his lifeline.

Just when Vice Commissioner Zhao thought Yang Xiao intended to keep the briefcase for himself, using it to coerce him into serving as the Han family, Yang Xiao stepped forward, lifting his hand to pass the black briefcase over to him, calmly gazing at him.

This scene stunned Zhao Jingde momentarily; he couldn’t believe the item was returned to him so effortlessly.

Without a word, he opened the briefcase in front of Yang Xiao to inspect it. Upon confirmation, the contents were unchanged, just as previously seen.

"Younger Brother Yang, what’s this supposed to mean..." Zhao Jingde raised his head, bewildered by Yang Xiao’s actions.

The other’s behavior was very unusual, departing straight from the Han family with the briefcase without even a word to him, driving off.

But halfway through the journey, he suddenly stopped, handing the briefcase back untouched; isn’t that absurd?

"Could it be... another scheme?" Vice Commissioner Zhao remained cautious.

However, he knew very well that mere photographs couldn’t topple someone of his stature; the original documents were imperative.

So Yang Xiao couldn’t have stopped en route to photograph the evidence, especially since he was alone without the time and energy.

On the other hand, Yang Xiao maintained his calm expression, but his eyes carried subtle undertones of mockery at some overrated notion, though he wasn’t certain.

"Zhao, throughout this journey, you entertained the thought of killing me at least three times, but you chose not to send messages to those people in the end. I thank you, and you should thank yourself, because you saved your own skin," Yang Xiao stated calmly.

The words caused Zhao Jingde’s pupils to contract slightly, though his face remained unchanged, feigning ignorance as he surprisingly retorted, "Younger Brother Yang, what are you talking about? Send messages to whom? I don’t... I don’t understand."

"A half-step Nether Realm, two at the peak of Ghost Level, all served under the Chamber’s Death Contract Angel Envoy, Zhao, do you need me to continue?" Yang Xiao just smiled.

Even someone like Zhao Jingde’s psychological defenses nearly crumbled, as he looked at Yang Xiao stunned, unsure what to say next, or how to proceed; his mind blanked.
