Nightmare Apostle

Chapter 2139 - 1175: Injustice_4

Because she was left disabled by a leg injury, Aunt Zhang walked with a limp. Her original job was no longer feasible, so the factory management, to care for her, arranged for her to manage the family housing, a job she has done for over a decade.

Aunt Zhang’s kindness is well-known, with a warm heart willing to help anyone who asks.

Feng Xiaoyan planned to spend the night in her room, with a ready excuse that she had a spat with Guo Tiejun and didn’t want to see him.

The family housing was relatively quiet late at night, with several small nightlights casting a faint glow in the corridors, slightly dispelling the darkness.

But the narrow and deep corridors still gave Feng Xiaoyan a very bad feeling, with stoves piled on either side, blind spots behind them, occasionally half-height cabinets, and stacked miscellaneous items. No one knew what might be hidden behind these things.

With a heart full of trepidation, Feng Xiaoyan nervously made her way, finally reaching the dimly lit stairway, arriving at the back door of the first-floor family housing, with Aunt Zhang’s dormitory right next door.

To Feng Xiaoyan’s relief, Aunt Zhang’s room was still lit; she was not asleep yet, and light seeped through the door crack, lifting the gloom from her heart.

Standing outside the door, she could vaguely hear a rustling sound from inside the room.

It was from an old radio, followed by a male baritone voice, unhurried: "The previous broadcast was the famous foreign violin piece ’Meditation’. Next is the instrumental piece ’Pure Spring from the Borderlands’, please enjoy."

"Knock, knock knock."

Feng Xiaoyan raised her hand to knock on the door, softly calling out: "Aunt Zhang, Aunt Zhang, are you there?"

"Who is it?" Accompanied by the sound of slippers shuffling, the door opened to reveal a slightly plump middle-aged woman in her early fifties standing before Feng Xiaoyan.

"Xiao Yan?" Aunt Zhang was startled, "Why are you here in the middle of the night?"

"Aunt Zhang, I... I want to stay with you for a while, is that okay?" Feng Xiaoyan pursed her lips, putting on a pitiable look, her acting suddenly intense.

Seeing this, Aunt Zhang didn’t hesitate, quickly opening the door to let Feng Xiaoyan in before grabbing a thermos to pour her a cup of hot water to warm up.

Feng Xiaoyan sat on the old wooden chair with peeling paint, holding a severely chipped enamel mug, looking small and pitiable, which softened Aunt Zhang’s gaze, "Xiao Yan, what happened? Did you have a tiff with Tie Jun?"

Aunt Zhang, being the administrator for years, mostly dealt with neighborhood disputes and minor marital tiffs. Seeing Feng Xiaoyan’s state, she had already guessed most of it.

"Aunt Zhang, Tie Jun... he’s not a good man. He just came a few days ago, and I caught him flirting with a young girl at the factory, but he doesn’t admit it." Feng Xiaoyan, reaching the emotional part, let tears drop like little pearls, appearing utterly pitiable.

"Ah~~" Aunt Zhang sighed like a person with experience: "Tie Jun is in the wrong here. Don’t be sad, I’ll go and get him here, give him a stern talking to, and get justice for you. Don’t let this affect your health."

With that, the warm-hearted Aunt Zhang stood up, ready to fetch Guo Tiejun for a resolution, but Feng Xiaoyan stopped her.

"Aunt Zhang, please don’t go now, I... I don’t want to see him right now, I... I just want to sit here and calm down."

"Aunt Zhang, is this late night bothering you?" Feng Xiaoyan asked with a sob.

"It’s no bother, it’s no bother. I’m glad you came to see me, it makes me happy."

"Feel free to sit as long as you want, and when you figure things out, I’ll go grab Tie Jun for a resolution."

"But Xiao Yan, let me offer you some advice, I have a good sense of people. Tie Jun, that boy, isn’t inherently bad, he’s just momentarily confused and needs a stern education." Aunt Zhang counselled with an experienced tone.

"Mm, I’ll listen to Aunt Zhang. I know Tie Jun has a place for me in his heart." Feng Xiaoyan’s voice sounded like a mosquito’s hum.

"Good, as long as you understand. Life is about compromise; you give a little, I give a little, and then everyone can get by."

Aunt Zhang was very satisfied with Feng Xiaoyan’s open-mindedness. They chatted back and forth, like a close aunt and niece.

Perhaps it was the late night boredom, but Aunt Zhang was talking passionately, and the tea mug was soon empty. When she tried to pour more water from the thermos, she realized it was empty.

"Xiao Yan, wait here for me. I’m going to fetch some water. Don’t leave, don’t leave, wait until I get back!" Aunt Zhang instructed a few times before leaving with the water kettle, limping slightly.

After Aunt Zhang left, Feng Xiaoyan sighed in relief, smiling bitterly to herself. Even if they begged her to leave now, she wouldn’t go; who knows if the Ghost hadn’t already found Guo Tiejun.

Oh, Guo Tiejun might already be dead for all she knew. He brought this upon himself!

Suddenly, a shiver ran through Feng Xiaoyan. It wasn’t the first time she wished Guo Tiejun dead.

But... why? Feng Xiaoyan was sure she wasn’t the malicious type, yet she had not only drugged Guo Tiejun but was also hoping the Ghost would kill him tonight. This... this was too bizarre!

It was as if she was being influenced by some malevolent force, turning her into someone resentful, venomous, and unscrupulous, to the point she couldn’t even recognize herself anymore.
