Kane wrenched Mjoldr free with raw strength and threw himself sideways as a massive forelimb scythed through the space he had occupied.
Claws longer than fighting knives tore furrows in the earth.
Shenron’s broadsword flashed in from the opposite side, scoring a deep line across the creature’s flank.
The mutant screamed, that layered, metallic roar, and the smaller limbs lashed out like tentacles, forcing Shenron to leap back.
Kessa darted in low, blades flashing, and opened a gash along one rear leg.
Griselda struck from above, dark wings driving her down in a precise dive that raked glowing lines across the cluster of eyes.
Several of the weeping black orbs burst. The mutant reeled, then answered with a sweep of its ridged spine that forced everyone to scatter.
Kane reset his grip on Mjoldr.
The axe head was smeared with the black fluid, and the cut he had made was already trying to close, edges of corrupted flesh knitting with unnatural speed.
This is bad.
The mutant turned its remaining eyes on him again, recognizing the source of the heaviest blow.
It gathered itself for another charge, the smaller limbs coiling, the tar-like fluid dripping from its jaws onto the leaf litter where it smoked and ate small holes in the dirt.
Around the clearing, the beast warriors held their positions, waiting for an opening that would not get them killed in a single swipe.
Shenron moved to Kane’s left, broadsword ready.
Kessa flanked right. Griselda climbed for another dive.
Kane spun Mjoldr once, feeling the weight, and set his feet.
But the beast was too fast.
The mutant’s charge hit the clearing like a landslide.
Bam!
Kane barely finished the word "Fuck" before the massive forelimb scythed past his head hard enough to peel bark from a tree behind him.
He rolled, came up with Mjoldr already moving, and put everything he had into a downward cut aimed at the joint where the patchwork shoulder met the elongated spine.
The axe bit deep, then stopped.
Black fluid welled around the edge.
The wound flexed and began to close even as he planted a boot on the creature’s hide and wrenched the weapon free.
"It heals too fast!" Kessa shouted, darting in from the flank. Her blades flashed, opening two long lines across the mutant’s rear leg.
The cuts sealed almost as quickly as they appeared, leaving only glistening black seams.
Shenron met the creature head-on, broadsword carving an arc that took one of the smaller grasping limbs off at the mid-joint.
The severed piece hit the ground and kept twitching.
Griselda dropped like a spear and raked both hands across the cluster of weeping eyes on the left side of the head.
Several burst in sprays of tar-like fluid.
The mutant reeled, slamming into a trunk hard enough to crack it.
Kane used the opening.
He stepped in and drove Mjoldr toward the same ruined eye cluster, aiming to split the skull.
The axe head sank halfway and locked again, as if the bone and corrupted flesh beneath had turned to layered iron.
The system window exploded across his vision in jagged red text.
[System Alert – Aberrant Mutant Variant Analysis]
[Tissue Regeneration: Extreme]
[Physical Damage Reduction: High]
[Corruption Density: Critical]
[Warning: Prolonged exposure increasing]
[Recommendation: Overwhelming force / Target central nerve clusters]
[Berserker Rage efficiency reduced under current corruption load]
Kane dismissed it with a snarl and ripped Mjoldr free. B
lack fluid sprayed across his chest and arms.
The smell was chemical and wrong, burning in his nose.
"Rage it!" Shenron barked, already back on his feet, blood running from a split lip.
"Whatever you used on me—use it now!"
Kane didn’t argue.
Berserker Rage ignited like oil thrown on fire.
Heat flooded every muscle.
Strength spiked hard enough to compress the ground under his boots.
The world narrowed to angles, openings, and the need to end the thing in front of him before the regeneration outpaced every wound they could make.
He met the mutant’s next charge head-on.
Mjoldr came around in a full-powered horizontal swing that caught the creature across the ribs and actually staggered it.
The hide split wider this time.
Black fluid poured.
Kane didn’t stop.
He stepped in, used the axe like a cleaver, and began hacking with short, brutal, continuous blows, forcing the regeneration to work on multiple deep wounds at once.
Kessa flanked low, hamstringing the rear legs again and again, buying seconds each time the mutant tried to turn.
Shenron locked both hands on the broadsword and drove it through one of the smaller shoulder limbs into the meat beneath, pinning it against a fallen log.
The mutant thrashed, tar spraying from its jaws.
Griselda climbed for height, then dove a second time. Her hands glowed faintly with residual fallen-angel power as she raked the remaining functional eyes. More black orbs burst. The creature’s scream climbed into a register that made the beast warriors on the perimeter flinch and cover their ears.
Kane saw the opening.
He planted his feet, drew Mjoldr all the way back, and put the full force of the Rage into a single rising thrust. The axe head punched through the largest remaining eye cluster, continued through bone and pulsing flesh, and buried itself deep into the elongated spine with a wet, grinding crack.
The mutant convulsed.
Shenron threw his full weight onto the pinned limb, holding it down.
Kessa drove both blades into the base of the skull from the side and twisted.
Griselda landed hard on the thrashing shoulders and forced her hands into the ruined eye sockets, blinding whatever senses still functioned.
The creature’s roar broke into a wet, choking rattle.
It slammed itself sideways into the trees, trying to dislodge them, but the combined weight and the axe lodged in its spine kept it from rising fully.
Black fluid poured from every wound in thick, smoking sheets.
The smaller limbs flailed, grabbed at nothing, and finally went limp.
Kane wrenched Mjoldr sideways inside the wound, then tore it free with a spray of tar and shattered bone.
The mutant collapsed in a twitching heap, the regeneration finally failing as the central nerve clusters gave out.
It kicked once, twice, then stilled.
The only sound left was the slow drip of black fluid into the leaf litter and the harsh breathing of everyone still standing.
