Without much thought, Song Guanchao first replied to Qiao Zi: "I need to call Mayor Cai and later report to Mayor Wu."

He felt his excuse was flawless, but Qiao Zi had already guessed that his relationship with Lin Wanqiu was not normal. Hearing his excuse, she knew he was going to see Lin Wanqiu.

She saw through it but didn't bring it up. At least Song Guanchao didn't directly say he was going to see Lin Wanqiu. If he had, she might have felt discouraged, comparing herself unfavorably to Lin Wanqiu.

But she also understood that Lin Wanqiu knew Song Guanchao longer, far beyond her comparison.

Besides, Lin Wanqiu had just arrived, so it was reasonable for him to accompany her.

After dealing with Qiao Zi, Song Guanchao picked up the room card and bypassed Qiao Zi's room to arrive outside Lin Wanqiu's room.

As he walked in, Lin Wanqiu immediately embraced him, hanging onto him.

Compared to the initial shyness, as time went by and the relationship gradually progressed, Lin Wanqiu became more straightforward in expressing her inner love for him.

Feeling her passionate love from inside out, Song Guanchao paused slightly, smiled gently, kissed her forehead lightly, and carried her into the room.

With serious matters to attend to in the afternoon, Song Guanchao managed his time, giving her half an hour to rest and recuperate, got dressed, and quietly sneaked back to the room.

At two o'clock, the three of them met in the corridor.

At a glance, Qiao Zi noticed her glowing complexion, looking nourished.

Then she looked at Song Guanchao, with his straight waist and energetic spirit, she thought inwardly, what an ironman he was, working on her numerous times last night and this morning, then being busy with Lin Wanqiu for half an afternoon, yet showing no signs of fatigue.

Truly a body made of iron.

"Let's go," Song Guanchao had called Mayor Cai earlier, flagged a taxi, and headed straight to the city government.

After registering at the entrance, they took an elevator to Mayor Cai's floor.

A man in his thirties was seated outside the office, likely the secretary.

"Hello, I'm Song Guanchao, I have an appointment with Mayor Cai."

"Director Song, please wait a moment."

The secretary went in to report, and upon returning he said, "Mayor Cai is on a phone call, Director Song, please have a seat."

After speaking, his gaze swept over the two women, feeling a heartbeat, wanting to strike up a conversation but finding no legitimate reason.

After waiting about five minutes, and seeing that Mayor Cai wasn't finished yet, Song Guanchao realized Mayor Cai was intentionally keeping him waiting.

After another ten minutes, with no movement, he directly asked, "Hasn't Mayor Cai finished his call yet?"

The secretary smiled and said, "Mayor Cai is quite busy."

Song Guanchao smiled back, not minding at all.

That's the only way Mayor Cai could salvage some dignity.

After waiting outside for about half an hour, the phone on the secretary's desk finally rang.

He picked up the receiver, responded with a few words, then stood up and said, "Mayor Cai has finished, Director Song, please follow me."

He opened the door and the three of them entered in order.

Mayor Cai was sitting there, not intending to get up upon seeing them arrive, evidently feeling the visitors weren't important enough.

Seeing his attitude, Song Guanchao didn't bother with polite courtesy, pulled out a chair and sat down ostentatiously, causing Mayor Cai to raise an eyebrow.

"Please enjoy the tea," the secretary served tea and left the office.

Mayor Cai glanced at Qiao Zi, then Lin Wanqiu, intrigued by Lin Wanqiu's identity despite being impressed.

Song Guanchao smiled and said, "Mayor Cai, are we signing the termination contract here?"

"Termination contract?" Mayor Cai's smile was sarcastic, like watching a monkey, letting Song Guanchao know this visit wouldn't be smooth.

Mayor Cai took out a cigarette and lit it, casually saying, "Release Director Zhang."

The seemingly casual tone was actually a commanding one.

Qiao Zi's body sitting in the chair silently tensed, a trace of unease appearing on her face.

Although she had anticipated this, when it actually happened, she was still nervous and uneasy.

Her gaze shifted to Song Guanchao, seeing his smiling face, showing no anxiety or anger.

His calm reaction allowed Qiao Zi to gently release a breath, her tense emotions dissipating completely.

"Director Zhang definitely needs to be released, but before releasing him, let's sign the termination contract with Chairman Qiao's company," Song Guanchao said.

Mayor Cai sneered at him, "Do you think you're qualified to bargain with me?"

Song Guanchao pretended to be surprised, "What does Mayor Cai mean by this? Didn't we agree on the phone? Is Mayor Cai meaning to renege?"

His words caused Mayor Cai to scoff, "Director Song is really gullible, I wonder how you got to this position."

He flicked his cigarette ash, said, "Call your Mayor Wu, tell him to release the person."

Song Guanchao shook his head, "Sign the contract first."

"So, Director Song is refusing me?" Mayor Cai tapped the table, "This is Feng City, if you don't listen to me, consider the consequences."

Consequences? What consequences? Is Mayor Cai threatening me?" Song Guanchao stared at him evenly.

Mayor Cai nodded, "If you think it's a threat, then it's a threat. Now, take out your phone and call Wu Qiangwei, tell him to release the person."

"Hmph! Since Mayor Cai is insincere, there's no need to continue the conversation!"

Song Guanchao stood up to leave, Mayor Cai reprimanded, "Did I allow you to leave?"

Song Guanchao turned his head, looking unsatisfied, "Does Mayor Cai have more to say?"

Mayor Cai pointed at Qiao Zi, "You may leave, she stays."

"What does Mayor Cai mean by this?" Song Guanchao's face darkened, and beside him, Lin Wanqiu secretly rolled her eyes.

She realized Song Guanchao was really an actor, deliberately playing games with him despite being able to resolve it directly.

"Literally," Mayor Cai snuffed out his cigarette and said, "Now call Mayor Wu, have her release the person, and I'll end the contract with her. Or you leave now, she stays. Choose one."

"Mayor Cai refuses to uphold the agreement?"

"What agreement?" Mayor Cai's expression was disdainful.

"I understand, Mayor Cai feels I'm easy to manipulate."

Song Guanchao nodded and asked again, "What does Mayor Cai want with leaving Chairman Qiao? Chairman Qiao hasn't violated any laws or regulations, with what reason do you prevent her from leaving?"

Mayor Cai seemed to hear a joke, snorted, "Do I need a reason to keep her?"

Song Guanchao squinted his eyes, suddenly smiled, "With Mayor Cai's words, that's enough."

"Hmm?" Mayor Cai raised his eyelids, not knowing why, seeing Song Guanchao's smile, made him vaguely feel something was off.

Song Guanchao turned and looked at Lin Wanqiu, "Journalist Lin, did you record everything?"

Lin Wanqiu paused, but quickly understood Song Guanchao's meaning, nodded, "I recorded everything."

Mayor Cai's face darkened as he vaguely guessed something, slammed the table, and shouted, "You recorded?"

Song Guanchao smiled sweetly, "Yes, otherwise why would I waste time chatting with you here?"

Mayor Cai's eyes narrowed for a few seconds, then suddenly smiled, "A bit clever, but not much. Do you think bringing a journalist to record can scare me? I told you, this is Feng City, not your Jiangzhou."

"Originally, I wanted to have a good talk with you, but since you're so tactless, none of you leave, Mayor Wu can come to fetch you later."

Mayor Cai reached to grab the phone, dialed a number, "Get the security upstairs."

Song Guanchao did not stop him throughout the process. After he finished, Song Guanchao calmly walked over to sit down again, picked up his cigarettes, took one out, lit it, exhaled leisurely towards him, just before he was about to scold, he said, "Let me introduce, this is Lin Wanqiu, she's from the Ministry of Propaganda."
