Old Blind Man in a Cultivation World

Disciple Cai sighed in frustration.

"Of course, I can show you my robes if it will clear away all of the misunderstandings." Disciple Cai spoke.

Rei’s eyes narrowed at Disciple Cai’s agreeableness.

"I left them in my quarters...follow me." Disciple Cai spoke and walked towards the disciple quarters.

As the group followed disciple Cai, Cai kept glancing at his master Elder Cho.

Disciple Cai entered his quarters and brought out a disciple robe that appeared clean but used. All parts of the robes were intact and no mud could be seen marring the robes.

A frown appeared on Rei’s face as she examined the robes.

"What’s wrong?" Cai asked with a slight smile.

Rei didn’t answer. The fabric was worn. The sleeves were slightly faded. It had clearly been used before but there was no dirt, not even the faint smell of the herb garden.

’Too clean.’ Rei thought as her eyes narrowed once again.

"This is the robe you wore yesterday?" She asked.

"Yes. Why would I lie about something so insignificant?" Disciple Cai nodded with a smile.

She then looked at Cai’s hands. The dirt beneath his fingernails was still there. Her eyes flickered.

’If he really wore these yesterday, why is there dirt on his hand but not on his robes?’ Rei thought as she reached toward the sleeve.

"What are you doing?" Cai immediately stepped forward.

"Inspecting it." Rei stopped.

"You may look at it, but don’t damage my belongings." Disciple Cai spoke sternly.

"Afraid I’ll find something?" Rei said with a smile.

"I’m afraid you’ll accuse me of another crime simply because you don’t like what you find." Cai’s expression hardened.

Rei turned the robe inside out. Nothing once again. She checked the sleeves, the collar but there was really nothing. No clues at all. Her expression slowly became confused.

’I don’t have nowhere near enough evidence or time to vindicate Shin.’ Rei thought to herself. The one hour time limit was quickly running out.

As Rei was suffering in her inner turmoil, Shin was standing beside Karn wondering what was happening.

He felt helpless, once again he needed to be protected by Rei, his big sister. If he was strong enough no one would dare mess with him like this but alas he was still a mortal with no cultivation. Rage brewed within him at his lack of strength.

"Shin..." Karn spoke low enough that only Shin could hear him.

"Yes Master?" Shin replied wondering what his master wanted from him.

"Calm yourself, you can still help yourself and your sister. Focus on your senses. What do you see?" Karn spoke as he brushed his beard with interest.

"I can still help her...?" Shin wondered if this was still part of his training but went along with it without question.

The training to sense the transparent world had definitely succeeded but it was not reliable as the focus to activate it was too high in combat nor did it activate on command.

’If master thinks I can help Rei then I need to try my best.’ Shin thought as he accumulated his focus on a single point but it kept fading.

’Why won’t it work...I need to help Rei. I can’t let her do it all on her own!’ Shin thought, as a deep rage and despair grew in his soul. But the thought itself immediately brought frustration.

’How? I can’t fight. I can’t even see.’ His breathing became heavier.

’Master has to protect me. Rei has to protect me. Again... I’m just getting in their way.’ The thought made his chest tighten.

Shin lowered his head.

But in the moment of despair he remembered Karn’s voice.

"You can still help yourself and your sister." Echoed in his mind. Shin’s fingers slowly loosened.

’Master believes in me. He knows I can do it.... I can do this!’ He took a slow breath. The air around him changed.

The despair and rage subsided with a deep calm. The darkness disappeared and the transparent world remained. His senses heightened, the sound of footsteps, the rustling of cloth, the breathing of everyone around him and the faint creaking of the wooden floor.

A vague shape appeared before him. Then another. Until the many elders and disciples around him were illuminated before him.

’I can feel everyone!!’ Shin thought amazed once again at the scenery.

"Shin." Karn smiled and spoke.

Shin came out of his stupor and answered. "Yes Master!".

"Your senses have been heightened above almost everyone here. Look for the Storm Orchid you sensed earlier." Karn spoke to Shin.

"The storm orchid...!!" Shin repeated but as he thought about the orchid its scent was singled out in his senses. The scent was not only coming from the Storm Orchid in the guard’s hand. It was also coming from outside the quarters.

"Master!! There is another scent coming from the outside!" Shin spoke in surprise to Karn.

"Koko.. yes there is, now go help your sister Shin." Karn chuckled as he patted his disciple on the back.

Shin nodded with a smile and moved his feet.

"Rei..." Shin spoke.

"What happened?" Rei looked back at Shin with a frown.

"Th-The smell of the storm orchid is coming from outside."

"Huh? I don’t smell anything. Are you sure?" The frown on Rei disappeared.

"Yes, I am sure. Master agreed as well." Shin smiled.

Rei glanced at her master Karn before returning her gaze on Shin.

"Show me where it is." Rei spoke.

Shin nodded and started walking outside the quarters towards the Herb Garden Hall.

The scent became stronger as he neared the hall. Shin stopped in front of the hall and waited for a moment sniffing the air.

Shin shook his head and walked behind the hall building where some storage shacks were erected by the disciples for tools. Shin walked in front of an old storage shack and pointed his finger at it.

"This one...this storage shack definitely smells like the Storm orchid." Shin said to Rei.

"Th-This...." Disciple Cai’s eyes widened in shock as they stood in front of the storage shack.

"Open it." Rei smiled as she looked at Disciple Cai and the Herb Garden Hall disciple.
