Old Blind Man in a Cultivation World
Chapter 55: Second Martial Technique!"I’ll go greet the fourth young master then." The Heavenly Mountain Elder bowed in respect.
"Wait..." Karn spoke before the elder could depart.
"As this is the start of our friendship, may I ask the elder a question?" Karn smiled.
"Of course, please ask Elder Karn!" The Heavenly Mountain Elder smiled in response.
"Please tell me the story of how you met your disciple. It will be useful to me when guiding him in his path." Karn smiled as he stare at Hong Tao in the arena.
The Heavenly Mountain Elder recounted how he met Hong Tao in the village and the fire that almost burned him and his parents.
The recounting lasted for a few minutes but the Heavenly Mountain Elder kept a straight smile as his focus remained on the arena where his disciple and Rei fought.
"Koko... Heavenly Mountain, are you sure the fire was completely accidental?" Karn spoke casually.
The Heavenly Mountain stopped speaking as his face turned away from Karn. But Karn could see, the expression on the Heavenly Mountain’s face was complete disgust for that moment.
The Heavenly Mountain looked back at Karn with a smile. A face of complete respect unlike the moment before.
"Elder Karn jests, the man who threw the torch was truly drunk as I said." The Heavenly Mountain Elder smiled.
"Koko! Indeed just a jest. Thank you for the information Heavenly Mountain." Karn laughed.
The Heavenly Mountain Elder nodded with a smile and walked away unhurriedly.
’That man is a tiger in the hiding.’ The Heavenly Mountain Elder thought, his expression turning into a serious frown.
----------------
BOOM!
The arena shook once again and Karn’s gaze immediately returned to the battlefield. The conversation with the Heavenly Mountain Elder was forgotten for the moment.
Rei and Hong Tao were still fighting and neither had yielded.
If anything, the battle had only become more intense.
Hong Tao had adapted to Rei’s fighting style much more quickly than Karn had thought. Hong Tao’s fists were getting closer and closer to Rei.
Every clash forced Rei to move her body in ways that seemed impossible for a human.
She twisted her waist, bent backward and turned her shoulders. Her sword constantly moving between offense and defense.
CLANG!
Hong Tao’s fist brushed past her cheek, Rei immediately countered using the opening.
SLASH!
A cut appeared across Hong Tao’s chest but his mind barely reacted. He stepped forward and threw another punch.
Rei blocked again, the force sent her sliding several meters backward.
’He’s learning again.’ Rei’s eyes narrowed.
Every time she used the same movement, Hong Tao became better at dealing with it. He had already learned her preferred distance. He had learned how she shifted her weight before attacking. He had even begun predicting which direction she would retreat after certain sword strikes.
This was no longer a battle between two cultivators. It was a battle between two geniuses attempting to understand one another and Hong Tao was winning the exchange.
BOOM!
His fist smashed into the ground where Rei had been standing making Rei jump backward.
Hong Tao immediately followed, his massive hand swept toward her. Rei raised her sword to block just in time.
CLANG!
The impact nearly forced the sword from her hands.
"Got you!" Hong Tao grinned as he swung his other fist.
Rei’s eyes sharpened. She ducked beneath, the fist passing above her head. She immediately thrust her sword forward.
Hong Tao moved his head aside but the blade grazed his cheek. Blood trickled down his chin but Hong Tao’s grin widened.
"Again!"
Rei’s expression remained calm but inwardly, she had reached a conclusion.
’Ordinary swordsmanship won’t be enough.’ She had already pushed her physical abilities to their limit but Hong Tao continued adapting. If she continued fighting this way, eventually he would understand every movement she possessed. A loss would become inevitable.
Rei slowly lowered her sword. Hong Tao stopped his movement as well upon seeing this.
"Hm?" For a brief moment, the entire arena became quiet. Rei closed her eyes, her Qi began flowing through her body. A strange pressure descended upon the battlefield.
’Koko...’ Karn’s eyes narrowed.
"A Martial Technique..." The Heavenly Mountain Elder, who had not yet gone far, turned around, his expression becoming serious.
Rei opened her eyes, and the world around her distorted.
WHOOSH!
Her figure disappeared.
"Where did she go?" Hong Tao’s pupils contracted.
A sword suddenly appeared behind him.
SLASH!
Hong Tao twisted his body but the blade still cut across his back.
In response, he roared and immediately turned around but there was nothing. Another sword appeared from his left.
CLANG!
He blocked it.
SLASH!
A cut appeared across his arm, another sword came from above and another from behind.
SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!
Hong Tao’s enormous body was bombarded from every direction. The spectators erupted.
"What is happening!?" An outer disciple shouted.
"There are too many!" Rei’s five figures appeared and disappeared in the arena non-stop.
Every single one looked identical and each one possessed the same killing intent. Every single one attacked Hong Tao.
In response, Hong Tao swung his fists wildly.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Several figures shattered into smoke. The real Rei remained hidden in his blind spot the whole time like a grim reaper waiting for its prey to accept defeat. Nonetheless, Hong Tao’s fists continued moving.
He tried listening. Nothing.
He tried sensing Qi. Nothing.
He tried following the wind. Nothing.
The Heavenly Thief Technique had completely stolen his ability to distinguish reality from illusion.
Suddenly, out of thin air a sword pierced his thigh. Another cut his shoulder and another sliced across his ribs.
Blood kept pouring from Hong Tao’s body.
He was completely overwhelmed.
Rei appeared behind him releasing her second martial technique.
Myriad Mirror Martial Art!
In the time between the last month, she had learned a new technique from her master.
She raised her sword high. Sensing the danger, Hong Tao suddenly turned but it was too late.
BOOOOOOM!
The sword struck his chest and Hong Tao was sent flying. His enormous body crashed into the ground and rolled several times before stopping only a few steps from the boundary.
The arena fell silent. Hong Tao slowly pushed himself upright. His body was covered in wounds and he had lost too much blood. No matter how big and unbreakable he was, there was still a limit. His body was rapidly reaching that limit.
Rei stood in the center of the battlefield. The illusions surrounded Hong Tao from every direction.
"Hehe..." Then he laughed.
Rei’s brows slightly furrowed.
"Gramps always said I was stupid. He said I only knew how to punch things." His laughter stopped.
"But, I don’t think fighting is about knowing how to punch." He raised his head.
Rei’s expression changed.
Hong Tao looked around the arena. He stopped trying to find the real Rei. He stopped trying to distinguish illusion from reality.
Instead, he simply stood there still. Completely still. The countless Rei’s continued moving around him but Hong Tao did not react.
’Koko... Has he given up?’ Karn’s eyes narrowed.
