Chapter 915: Chapter 915: Big Mom’s Prying Eyes
Totto Land, Whole Cake Island – Whole Cake Chateau.
"Ma-ma-ma-ma!"
"Baron Tamago, Pekoms... have you found Caesar yet?"
Charlotte Linlin sat upon the throne of the grand hall. She grabbed four or five sweets at once, stuffing them into her mouth and chewing loudly, a look of immense satisfaction slowly spreading across her face.
Below the throne, Baron Tamago swallowed hard, his expression betraying his unease. Beside him, a grief-stricken Pekoms turned pale at the Yonko’s inquiry.
"Oh? What’s with those faces?"
Noticing their expressions and the tears streaming down Pekoms’ face, Linlin looked down, puzzled. "Pekoms, why are you crying? You look pathetic."
At her words, Pekoms could no longer contain his sorrow. He wailed, "Mama... my people... so many of my people are dead! Even Duke Inuarashi died in Dressrosa... and... and Master Nekomamushi... he was taken by that damned ’Golden Ring’ Aeridar! Waaaaah!"
"Duke Inuarashi... your people... the Minks of Zou, is it?" Linlin paused, her movements momentarily freezing.
Pekoms had been with the Big Mom Pirates for many years, and she had often heard him speak of his homeland. Furthermore, Totto Land was known as a "Universal Kingdom," home to every race in the world except the Giants. Linlin’s intelligence reports indicated that the Minks of Zou possessed a highly sophisticated and powerful nation, led by two rulers of immense strength.
To think that both rulers of the Mink Tribe, one dead and one captured, had fallen at Dressrosa. This meant the Minks of Zou had suffered a devastating, perhaps fatal, blow.
"That ’Golden Ring’ brat is getting stronger by the day," Linlin mused. A silhouette of a dominant man flashed through her mind. Red-Haired Shanks, the man who shared her title as one of the Four Emperors.
Young. Powerful.
Aeridar was almost a mirror image of Shanks.
Beside her, Baron Tamago’s face grew grim as he recalled the sight of Dressrosa, a wasteland of rubble and corpses.
"Enough crying, Pekoms! It’s unsightly!" Linlin waved her hand dismissively, returning to her primary concern. "Did you find Caesar? What is the status of the experiment?"
Baron Tamago’s eye twitched. Pekoms, still sobbing, nearly lost his balance from the sudden spike in tension. Pekoms quickly turned his head away, pretending to wipe his eyes to avoid Tamago’s gaze.
"Forgive us, Mama!"
Seeing Pekoms play dumb, Tamago had no choice but to grit his teeth and speak up. "We found Caesar, but he informed us that while the Gigantification experiment was technically complete, his laboratory and all research data sank into the sea along with Punk Hazard. Everything was reduced to ash and seawater."
"The Gigantification experiment was complete?"
"What did you say? The lab was destroyed? The data is at the bottom of the ocean?"
Linlin’s face shifted from a momentary joy to a mask of pure fury. Her massive, bloodshot eyes bulged like brass bells. A terrifying aura, like a volcano on the verge of eruption, filled the hall. She spoke each word with a heavy, menacing weight: "The massive funding... the long years I spent waiting... my Gigantification experiment... is gone?!"
Gulp...
Tamago and Pekoms trembled uncontrollably. The suffocating pressure in the hall made the very air feel like solid lead. They both swallowed hard, paralyzed by fear.
Terrified of her wrath, Tamago didn’t dare hide a single detail. He explained frantically, "Mama, it’s all the fault of Straw Hat Luffy! Caesar told us that Straw Hat raided the lab, and Trafalgar Law chose that moment to betray us. Their battle with the Chris Pirates’ executives turned the research facility into a war zone!"
"Then, ’God’ Enel arrived as reinforcement and clashed with the former Marine Admiral, Aokiji Kuzan. Their conflict was so violent it literally sank Punk Hazard! All of Caesar’s research materials went down with the lab!"
Tamago blurted out everything Caesar had told them in a single breath.
"Straw Hat... Trafalgar Law... and Aokiji Kuzan..." Linlin repeated the names under her breath. She then turned her cold gaze toward the lion-man currently wiping his nose. "Pekoms, is that what Caesar said?"
Pekoms jumped, his fur standing on end. He nodded his head like a chicken pecking at grain. "Yes! Yes, Mama! That’s exactly what Caesar said! Even Doflamingo confirmed it!"
As soon as Pekoms finished, Tamago quickly added, "However, Mama... Caesar said that although the data is at the bottom of the sea, the Chris Pirates have a backup of the same research. It’s highly likely that the Chris Pirates have already perfected the Gigantification technology themselves!"
"He said that if Mama could persuade the Chris Pirates to provide the finished technology or data, and then provide new funding for a new facility, he could recreate the results in a very short time!"
Tamago relayed Caesar’s words verbatim, not daring to omit a single syllable.
"The Chris Pirates..."
Linlin calmed down slightly, her massive eyes narrowing in calculation. The Chris Pirates were unlike any other faction. She had to admit that "Golden Ring" Aeridar was far more suited for the title of Yonko than Blackbeard Teach. Even without the formal title, their strength was on par with her own. This made the idea of a direct "seizure" of the technology far too risky.
However, she knew the Chris Pirates guarded their genetic and biological technology with extreme secrecy. They wouldn’t trade it away easily.
As Linlin fell into a pensive silence, the atmosphere in the room turned deathly still. Tamago and Pekoms secretly breathed a sigh of relief, knowing they had survived the immediate threat to their lives.
Just then, Pudding entered the hall. She wore a long pink dress, her hair tied in twin tails, with her bangs carefully brushed down to hide the third eye on her forehead. She looked remarkably cute and innocent.
Seeing Pudding, Linlin’s eyes lit up as a thought struck her. She muttered to herself, "If I marry Pudding off to Golden Ring... No, that man’s wife is Boa Hancock of Amazon Lily. He won’t trade the Gigantification data for Pudding."
Linlin’s brow furrowed again.
Pudding looked at the drenched-in-sweat Tamago and Pekoms, then turned to her mother, asking cautiously, "Mama, did you summon me for something?"
"It’s the only way."
Linlin looked at Pudding, her whisper sounding like a final decision.
A satisfied, wide smile spread across her face. "Pudding, I’ve arranged a marriage for you. The groom is a Prince of the Germa Kingdom!"
"Also, my dear daughter... the next time you visit Alvis Island, find an opportunity to record everything useful you see. I suspect we’ll be needing it soon!"
