The Soul-Devouring Swamp was filled with poisonous mists and miasmas, but the pair moved through it freely. Spanning over seventy li, it wasn’t actually that large, and they covered nearly all of it in about four hours.
Aside from a few relatively strong Aquatic Spirit Beasts, the two found no valuable clues.
Qin Li frowned slightly, thinking, ’Could it be that the fourth array doesn’t exist? Otherwise, how could I have searched this entire swamp, sending my Innate Purple Qi dozens of meters deep into the mire, without finding a single abnormality?’
Shangguan Shiyu was also growing anxious. With their current strength, their Primordial Power could sustain this kind of low-altitude flight for the better part of a day. But the environment in the Soul-Devouring Swamp was harsh. Even though they were immune to the poisonous mists and miasmas, staying here for an extended period was hardly a pleasant experience.
"Let’s go," Qin Li said, taking Shangguan Shiyu’s hand. "We’ll fly higher and get a look at the arrays at Phoenix Lake, Eagle’s Beak Stream, and the Execution Ground." He circulated his Innate Purple Qi, and his body floated up gently, like a feather.
Pulled along by Qin Li, Shangguan Shiyu also circulated her Primordial Power. As she possessed an Innate Spirit Body, she was not much weaker than Qin Li in this regard. Thus, they ascended hand in hand, like a celestial couple.
They flew a thousand meters into the air in one go. Looking out at the three great danger zones from that height, they were both startled. ’No wonder so many people were drawn here,’ they thought.
It turned out that each of the three arrays was emitting an aura that soared into the heavens!
The desolate, ancient, and immense presence felt as if it had come from time immemorial, making one’s very soul tremble. That aura completely suppressed their own.
"So powerful!" Shangguan Shiyu exclaimed, covering her mouth. It was her first time seeing such a magical array, and her heart pounded with excitement. Moreover, her own aura seemed to resonate faintly with the three arrays, and she felt an uncontrollable urge to fly toward them.
Qin Li grabbed her arm and snapped, "Shiyu!"
Clarity instantly returned to Shangguan Shiyu’s eyes, but they were also filled with horror. "Just now," she said, "I felt like a voice over there was calling to me, making me uncontrollably want to go closer!"
Qin Li said grimly, "These arrays are very strange. Stay away from them!"
Shangguan Shiyu nodded. As they looked down from high above, they could barely see the surface of the Soul-Devouring Swamp. It was completely concealed by poisonous mists and miasmas of all colors. When struck by the sunlight, the vapors shimmered with a multicolored haze, looking quite beautiful.
But this beautiful haze was fatal to humans.
Qin Li began to slowly extend his Innate Purple Qi downward, blanketing the area and passing through the multicolored poisonous mists. Just then, a strange sensation came over him.
It was as if his body had suddenly become immense, so colossal that it touched the heavens and stood upon the earth. It felt as if he could reach out and touch the clouds in the sky if he so wished.
It was as if the world had shrunk before his very eyes. Startled, Qin Li quickly looked inward at his Sea of Consciousness. Previously, he could only see the great feet of the unknown giant within it, but now, he could see all the way up to its knees!
The giant’s legs were clad in a silvery-white metal that resembled battle armor. The cold light flowing across its surface was enough to send a shiver down one’s spine.
When Qin Li withdrew from his Sea of Consciousness, a flash of understanding hit him. That feeling of being colossal just now hadn’t been an illusion. It was a sensation that arose when one’s Spiritual Power reached a certain realm, allowing them to peer down from a great height.
At this thought, Qin Li’s mood instantly improved, and his frustration at being unable to find the array in the Soul-Devouring Swamp completely vanished.
Just then, Shangguan Shiyu asked softly from his side, "Darling, are you... alright?"
Qin Li shook his head. Looking at Shangguan Shiyu’s concerned face, he said, "I’m fine. What’s wrong?"
"It’s nothing, really." Shangguan Shiyu smiled gently. "It’s just that a moment ago, I felt as if you suddenly became immense, and it gave me a strong sense of pressure. Perhaps it was just my imagination."
Qin Li said softly, "It wasn’t your imagination. That was my Spiritual Power!"
Shangguan Shiyu was taken aback for a moment, then said joyfully, "Really? That’s wonderful!"
Qin Li knew. ’Only someone who truly cares for me would react like that first. Anyone else would probably have felt fear.’
By now, Qin Li’s Divine Sense had slowly spread to encompass the entire Soul-Devouring Swamp. Even at his current realm, completely blanketing the swamp with his Spiritual Power was an extremely difficult task.
Qin Li fell silent, his expression turning stern as he focused on sensing everything within the Soul-Devouring Swamp.
His Spiritual Power perceived several groups of Martial Artists moving cautiously through the Soul-Devouring Swamp, completely unaware of his observation.
The sensation gave Qin Li a subtle sense of satisfaction, as if he were transcendent, standing on a higher plane and observing these people who were nothing more than ants.
Qin Li was instantly jolted back to his senses. He broke out in a cold sweat as he recalled his previous thought, feeling ashamed. ’How could I have had such a thought?’
Just then, at the edge of the Soul-Devouring Swamp, his vast Divine Sense finally detected an anomaly. There seemed to be a mysterious suction force in that location, one that was slowly devouring the Divine Sense he extended toward it!
Although the process was so slow as to be almost imperceptible, Qin Li still sensed it. Astonished, he took Shiyu’s hand and flew quickly toward that spot.
When the two of them passed through the layers of mist and landed in the spot, Qin Li was slightly stunned by the sight. He and Shiyu had flown right over this place before. It was a thicket of bushes floating on the swamp’s surface. Stomping on it was enough to make it shake, and a powerful person could even push the floating thicket to drift across the water.
For that reason, neither Qin Li nor Shiyu had paid it much attention. He never expected that his Divine Sense could be devoured by a place like this. It was truly baffling.
Qin Li looked at this floating island and said, "Shiyu, stand back!"
As he spoke, he drew the Famous Sword Moonlight—the one he had taken from the youth in white—from his ring. He infused it with Innate Purple Qi, and the sword let out a clear hum.
A surge of Sword Intent erupted from between Qin Li’s brows, shooting toward the floating island. The Sword Intent passed straight through it, piercing into its depths.
At the same time, he swung the Famous Sword Moonlight in his hand, bringing it down upon the island!
BOOM!
A powerful force surged back along the path of his Sword Intent, counterattacking like a tidal wave. It slammed into Qin Li’s ferocious strike, creating a deafening roar!
The immense, unparalleled force instantly blasted the small island to smithereens. Then, from the depths of the swamp, a dazzling white light shot out, a brilliant beam that soared straight into the sky!
Qin Li and Shangguan Shiyu retreated several hundred meters with extreme speed. They watched as the beam of light slowly expanded in all directions, growing thicker and stronger. It emitted a blinding, mesmerizing radiance that seemed to outshine the blazing sun itself!
"Go!"
With a sharp cry, Qin Li pulled Shangguan Shiyu along and sped back in the direction they had come from.
At the edge of the Soul-Devouring Swamp, a large crowd stared, dumbfounded, at the scene unfolding before them. As they felt that desolate, ancient, and majestic aura, every last one of them was rendered speechless.
Lu Qi, who had insisted on staying behind, stood there wrapped in a thick blanket. Her eyes were entranced as she watched the pillar of light soaring into the sky. ’That man is truly a peerless expert,’ she thought. ’Something so many other Martial Artists failed to do, he accomplished in such a short time!’
Although there was no evidence that Qin Li was responsible for this, in her heart, Lu Qi was already certain that he was the one who had done it.
Only he could have done it! It was an inexplicable trust, a woman’s intuition.
Just then, Qin Li and Shangguan Shiyu came speeding toward them, looking somewhat battered. Of course, this was just an act they had deliberately put on.
Qin Li’s clothes were torn and his hair was a mess. Shangguan Shiyu’s face was flushed and her chest was heaving, making her look equally disheveled.
"What happened in there?"
Someone asked impatiently the moment the two of them landed.
"I don’t know."
Qin Li shook his head. "We searched all over in there but didn’t find anything. We were just about to leave when we suddenly heard a huge explosion, and then... that light appeared. What’s more, the light had a mysterious and powerful suction that nearly pulled both of us in!"
The crowd seemed to have a moment of realization and nodded. Deep down, none of them believed Qin Li could have caused such a commotion. If he had, wouldn’t that make the two of them terrifyingly powerful?
"Look!"
Someone suddenly pointed to the sky, and everyone looked up.
They saw a curtain of deep blue light suddenly form above their heads. Waves of light rippled across it, making for an enchanting sight. But everyone’s expression changed, because the sunlight was now completely blocked out by the blue radiance.
Someone suddenly leaped into the air and flew hundreds of meters high. From that vantage point, they were shocked to see the four beams of light—one from each of the four great danger zones—converging at a single point in the sky.
This blue curtain of light was extending outward from that very point in all directions, completely trapping everyone within it!
"Heavens, what in the world is going on?" someone in the crowd muttered, voicing the question on everyone’s mind.
