This Sect Leader of a great sect from the Land of the Far West was, after all, still human. As long as one was human, one would have selfish desires, passions, and vices. These were not things that could be completely eliminated through cultivation.
If a person was completely devoid of wants and desires, wanting nothing and doing nothing, then what was the point of living?
Mingyue Ascendant’s most beloved disciple was the Saintess, Han Mei. From a young age, her talent was exceptional. No matter what she studied, she learned twice as fast as others, or even faster.
Clever, sensible, and obedient—this was Mingyue Ascendant’s assessment of her disciple.
But as she grew older, her sense of superiority made her act more and more like a high and mighty Saintess. At the same time, her relationships with many within the sect grew increasingly distant. By now, almost everyone in Yaoxian Palace had some sort of opinion about Han Mei, for better or worse.
This couldn’t be blamed entirely on others, but in Mingyue Ascendant’s heart, she still believed Han Mei was an outstanding talent, someone who could one day take over Yaoxian Palace!
After all, everyone was young once; everyone had a time when they were flamboyant and eager to show off their abilities. Therefore, in Mingyue Ascendant’s eyes, Han Mei’s few shortcomings were insignificant.
This time, Han Mei had personally taken action and used a ploy to obtain the Ancient Map, which was enough to prove her intelligence and capability.
Furthermore, after Elder Hu, Elder Mo, and the others returned to the sect, they chose not to say much to Mingyue Ascendant. They all understood the Lord Sect Leader’s personality; even if they spoke up, it would be useless.
However, the name Qin Li had now spread throughout Yaoxian Palace for the first time!
Yaoxian Palace occupied a range of mountains with beautiful scenery and abundant Spiritual Qi. Each mountain housed a different branch of the sect.
Bu Yunyan, Zhao Qianqian, and Linghu Feiyue had all been taken in by the yellow-robed Elder Mo, becoming her personal disciples.
While Qin Li was making a name for himself in Yaoxian Palace by humiliating the Saintess, Zhao Qianqian and Linghu Feiyue were in seclusion. Bu Yunyan, on the other hand, had relied on her own strength to become a deacon of Yaoxian Palace.
Thus, Bu Yunyan was the first to learn of this matter. When she heard the name "Qin Li" spoken by the sect’s elders and her peers, the joy in her heart almost made her lose her composure!
She was especially shocked and delighted to hear that Qin Li had caused the Saintess to suffer a great loss and had even forced Ascendant Ku Bamboo—Mingyue Ascendant’s senior brother and a renowned figure in Yaoxian Palace—to admit defeat and retreat. But there was also a trace of lingering fear.
’A moment ago, I almost told my master that I knew Qin Li. If I had said that, and word got out, who knows what Saintess Han Mei and the others who already dislike us would do.’
’The most likely outcome would be them using us to threaten Qin Li into handing over the Ancient Map!’
Bu Yunyan carefully concealed her thoughts. She decided to find an opportunity to tell Zhao Qianqian and Linghu Feiyue about this so they wouldn’t slip up. Otherwise, their days ahead would become truly difficult.
Still, hearing news of Qin Li here made Bu Yunyan incredibly happy. Although their strength had improved by leaps and bounds over the years, the three of them had never truly been happy.
This is what had happened back then: a group from Yaoxian Palace had split up to travel to the East. Their goal was to gather some Heavenly and Earthly Treasures unique to the region and to select a few disciples with good potential to bring back to the sect for training.
Elder Mo had accidentally spotted Zhao Qianqian and discovered her exceptionally high aptitude—a genius the likes of which appeared only once every few decades. Then she saw Linghu Feiyue, whose aptitude was even better. Although Bu Yunyan’s was slightly inferior, her body had been refined by Qin Li’s Innate Purple Qi Marrow Cleansing. How could she be that far behind?
Thus, Elder Mo was immediately moved by her love for talent. She told the three girls on the spot that she was taking them with her and asked if they had any family.
The three girls, of course, refused to tell the truth. They claimed to have no family but still wouldn’t agree to be taken away. Unfortunately, Elder Mo was far too powerful and was used to acting with impunity in the Mortal Realm. She believed that if she wanted to take on disciples, there was no reason for them to refuse. She immediately took the three by force, then used her Spiritual Power to write the message in the room that Qin Li later saw.
In Elder Mo’s view, no one would be able to see those words anyway. But since she had left a message, she felt at ease, believing she wouldn’t be entangled in any karmic debt.
But how could Elder Mo have known? So-called karma can only be avoided if there is no interaction whatsoever! As long as paths have crossed, how could there be no karmic consequences?
Regardless, Elder Mo treated these three disciples very well. Whenever there were good things to be had or opportunities to be found, she would always think of her disciples first.
And so, Bu Yunyan and the other two were forcibly brought to the Land of the Far West, to this enormous sect. So many years had passed, yet they had never once stepped outside Yaoxian Palace’s main gates!
Yaoxian Palace was simply too vast. The various peaks were separated by dozens, even hundreds of miles. To communicate, they had to use specially trained Homing Falcons.
After an initial period of adjustment, Bu Yunyan and the others gradually adapted to this life. At the same time, they understood that such an opportunity was rare; not everyone gets the chance to join a sect in the Land of the Far West. Therefore, after that initial period, all three began to focus on their cultivation with great diligence.
Bu Yunyan’s strength had also improved very quickly, and she had now reached the Human Venerable realm. As for Zhao Qianqian, she was expected to break through to the Earth Venerable realm during her current seclusion!
The most formidable of them was Linghu Feiyue. The fact that the Little Fox was a Spirit Beast was a secret that likely no one in all of Yaoxian Palace knew, except for the Ancient Divine Beast, the Hou, that guarded the gate!
Of course, even if the Hou knew, it would never say a word. It had been defeated in a single move back then and forced to become Yaoxian Palace’s Guardian for so many years. By its calculations, the time for its release was drawing near. It wouldn’t go looking for trouble.
Therefore, Linghu Feiyue’s fame within Yaoxian Palace was now second only to Saintess Han Mei!
This time in seclusion, she was attempting to break through to the Shattering Void realm!
When Elder Mo returned to her room, Bu Yunyan hurried after her. She went to pour her master a cup of tea, then moved behind Elder Mo to massage her shoulders.
What Elder Mo liked most about Bu Yunyan was her perceptiveness and ability to please. It was a very endearing quality. In contrast, Han Mei, who acted high and mighty all day with a cold expression, was irritating no matter how you looked at her.
"Yan’Er, you’re still the most considerate one. You’re my favorite!" Elder Mo said, her eyes slightly closed. This trip to the East, though fruitful, had also been exhausting. She had been dealt a considerable blow, especially after witnessing that the East could produce a genius Martial Artist as shockingly talented as Qin Li.
She even had a feeling that if she were to fight Qin Li, she would lose nine times out of ten!
"Hee hee, Master must be tired from the trip. I’ll cook a few dishes in a bit and have someone prepare a bath with Hundred Flowers Dew for you. Please get some good rest, Master!"
"Good girl, Yan’Er. In a few days, I’ll go ask the former Sect Leader for a few Elixirs to help you achieve another big leap in your strength!"
"Master, why ask the former Sect Leader? What about Sect Leader Mingyue Ascendant...?" Bu Yunyan asked carefully, steering the conversation in that direction.
The outspoken Elder Mo snorted coldly. "Her? She gives all the good stuff to that ungrateful girl, Han Mei! What would she have left for us?"
Bu Yunyan chuckled softly. "Don’t be angry, Master. I don’t want you to have a falling out with the Lord Sect Leader over this. By the way, did anything interesting happen on your trip? Won’t you tell me about it?"
Bu Yunyan’s words were very pleasing to Elder Mo. Enjoying her disciple’s massage with her eyes half-closed, she chuckled and said, "As for interesting things, it’s nothing more than what’s already being spread around the sect. But speaking of which, that girl Han Mei suffered a huge loss this time. Luckily, her opponent didn’t strike a killing blow. Otherwise, your master would have been punished upon returning to the sect!"
"Tell me about it, Master!" A hint of undisguised glee was in Bu Yunyan’s tone. For the longest time, Han Mei had looked down on her and the other two disciples from the East out of pure prejudice, for no particular reason.
Elder Mo chided her with a laugh, "You little rascal, are you really that happy to hear about someone else’s misfortune?" In truth, Elder Mo was quite happy herself. She chuckled. "Turns out, this wasn’t the first time. Han Mei had already suffered a loss to that Qin Li once before, on the Great Sea. I heard that back then, the little guy’s strength wasn’t much, and Han Mei nearly killed him, chasing him all over the place. Oh, right, that area of the sea isn’t far from your hometown! Ai, who would have thought that in just a few short years, the little guy would grow so powerful. Even I... wouldn’t be confident of victory against him!"
Elder Mo spoke casually, but Bu Yunyan listened intently. Her heart trembled. ’That must have been when Qin Li heard we were missing and went out to look for us!’
For a moment, the image of Qin Li’s handsome face filled Bu Yunyan’s mind, and she became distracted. The pressure of her massage intensified slightly. It wasn’t until Elder Mo frowned that Bu Yunyan snapped out of it and quickly said, "I’m sorry, Master. When you mentioned that, I suddenly started to miss home."
"Ai, never mind, it’s nothing. I’m sure you all hold some resentment in your hearts over how I brought you here back then. Don’t be anxious. In a few more years, when you all reach the Shattering Void realm, I’ll let you go home for a visit. It’s best not to go before you have that level of strength. The East is... chaotic right now!"
Bu Yunyan hummed softly in agreement, then asked, "So, does that mean there are powerful Martial Artists in the East as well?"
Elder Mo nodded and sighed. "The Divine Temples have appeared, and the world is in chaos. From now on, there will be no shortage of conflict!"
Bu Yunyan’s gaze grew distant. She silently vowed to herself that she must speed up her cultivation. The next time she saw Qin Li, she would be sure to... leave them all astonished!
