Only I Can Use Every Power System

Chapter 12: Cha.12 First Mission (6)

It was time to end it all.

The team headed into the forest, and soon enough they encountered some of the infected monsters.

There were nineteen farm animals and four forest beasts.

This time, Qasim’s job was only to provide support, giving him the perfect chance to see how experienced fighters battled.

He was quickly stunned by the level of his teammates.

Yasmin was basically a moving cloud of death, gliding through the battlefield while slaughtering every monster in her path.

Meanwhile, Doran fought like a one-man army, constantly switching between offense and defense using his strange Nahr’keth runes, whose mechanics Qasim still didn’t understand.

"Does it activate whenever he whispers something? Maybe it’s like word magic from that anime I watched... I’ll have to ask him later."

He attacked alongside Yasmin while simultaneously protecting Valen.

Speaking of Valen...

At first, he seemed... useless?

Of course, Qasim didn’t expect him to do much since he assumed his role was something similar to a healer.

But watching him fight was simply strange.

Whenever Doran or Yasmin got injured, Valen didn’t heal them.

Instead, he continuously moved his hands through the air just like he had back at the house, as though he were creating something invisible.

And those eyes...

Qasim could feel a strange aura radiating from them.

Suddenly, Valen picked up a stick from the ground and started working on it.

After a few seconds, he called Yasmin over and handed it to her.

Qasim was confused at first.

Then his eyes widened as he watched Yasmin slice through the monsters with unbelievable ease.

The battle didn’t last very long before the team achieved a complete victory.

...

They continued deeper into the forest until they found the remaining thirty-five infected monsters.

Oddly enough...

They were fighting each other.

More specifically, each species was attacking the others.

This unexpected turn of events worked perfectly in the team’s favor.

They remained hidden and quietly observed, waiting for the monsters’ numbers to decrease before making their move.

After all, no one knew what would happen if they attacked in the middle of the chaos.

The monsters might stop fighting one another and unite against them instead.

While waiting, Valen continued weaving something invisible in the air.

Eventually, Qasim couldn’t hold back his curiosity any longer.

He turned toward Doran.

"What is he doing?"

"He’s literally creating rules."

"Huh?"

"What does that even mean?"

"Basically, Makers can see something we can’t."

"And from that..."

"They can manipulate the properties of things."

"Before you ask anything else..."

"I don’t know much about that power system either."

"You should ask him instead."

"Oh... okay."

"Then maybe you can explain how your power system wor—"

"I’d rather not waste energy talking."

"B-But..."

"Shhh..."

...

Once the monsters’ numbers had nearly been cut in half, the team finally launched their surprise attack.

Within moments, all five infected villagers were killed before the remaining monsters even realized what had happened.

...

As the battle continued, Qasim found himself thinking back to his fight against the scientist.

"I got humiliated and almost died."

"The thought of dying again scares me."

"This time I have a healthy body."

"I can walk."

"I can run."

"I can laugh without feeling like my throat is falling apart and I’m special..."

"I remember Levia saying I have talent, so of course I’m afraid of dying and losing all of this."

"What would even happen if I died again?" Another reincarnation...?"

"I don’t want to find out."

"In the first place, I only lost because the fight wasn’t fair."

"I was clearly weaker than him, but I still pushed him far enough to force that ugly transformation."

"So yeah..."

"I guess I really am special."

"I really am the main cha—"

"What the hell are you doing, kid?!"

"Go help our leader!"

Qasim snapped out of his thoughts.

Looking around, he saw Doran shouting while simultaneously fighting an infected monkey on one side and a goat monster on the other.

Yasmin was facing two infected hunters while cutting down farm animals that got too close.

Meanwhile, Valen was busy fighting both an infected hunter and a dog-like monster.

Qasim immediately rushed beside Valen and cast Fire Torch followed by Wind Boost.

"I-I’m sorry!"

"I got distracted."

"It’s okay, Qasim."

"If anything..."

"It probably means I should start going to the gym~"

...

After a long battle that wasn’t easy for the team—but certainly went better than expected—they finally wiped out every infected creature.

Following a short rest, they returned to the village and informed the mayor that the mission had been completed.

"Oh, thank God..."

"That’s wonderful."

"Thank you all."

"But what about the lake you mentioned?"

"And those flowers?"

"What if more of those people come back to hurt us?"

"Hmm..."

"To be honest..."

"I don’t think they were specifically targeting your village."

"It’s more likely they simply wanted to use your village—and others like it—as experimental subjects."

"Now that their experiment has failed..."

"I doubt they’ll come back."

"O-Oh..."

"I see."

"May I at least know who they are?"

"We’re still investigating."

"We have a few suspects."

"But we can’t confirm anything until we return to our base and run some tests."

"I understand."

"Even so..."

"I can’t thank you enough."

"If you’d allow me..."

"I’d like to introduce you to the village as the heroes who saved us."

Doran was about to refuse.

But Valen stopped him and politely accepted the mayor’s offer.

Within minutes, all the remaining villagers had gathered in the center of the village.

They listened as the mayor gave a speech about surviving the disaster before properly thanking their saviors as the team slowly walked toward the village gate.

Suddenly...

Valen felt something tugging on his pants.

He looked down.

A little girl was holding onto his leg.

Valen stopped walking and knelt before her.

"What is it?"

The little girl stared at him for a moment before asking,

"My daddy went into the forest the other day..."

"And he never came back."

"Did you see him?"

Valen froze.

"He told me he was going to hunt a big deer so Mom and I could eat."

"I wonder if he couldn’t catch one..."

"And now he’s too embarrassed to come home."

She tightened her grip on his pants.

"Please, Mister Hero..."

"Please tell him he doesn’t need to be embarrassed."

"I just want him to come home."

Valen remained silent for a long moment before finally speaking.

"Little girls shouldn’t worry so much about their fathers."

"What do you think your dad would feel if he saw you crying like this?"

"So promise me..."

"Promise you’ll stay strong."

"And keep waiting for him."

"That’ll make him happier than anything."

The little girl smiled and nodded before running back to her mother.

...

After the team left the village, Doran finally spoke.

"Was what you told that girl really okay?"

"Is it right to give her false hope?"

"...No."

"Of course not."

"Agh..."

"That’s why I hate talking to kids."

"I never know what to say."

"I always mess it up..."

"And end up saying the same things people told me when I was in her place."

Doran didn’t reply.

The two remained silent.

They were riding back toward the Black Seed headquarters in a carriage.

Levia was still asleep.

The captured spy sat tied up beside them.

No one spoke another word.

They were all...

Completely exhausted.
