"We, alongside the Beastkin Kingdom, have declared war against the filthy humans and their allies."
Zyra’s eyes widened when she heard his words.
"So... everyone, get ready to capture the spies from the human kingdom!"
...
"Agh, this isn’t that bad, to be honest..."
Valen said casually while playing with some dirt inside his prison cell.
Aluna sat calmly with her elves, while Doran’s angry expression made it obvious that he wasn’t amused by his leader’s joke.
Levia was sitting beside Qasim, trying to figure out how their chains worked, while Yasmin remained on the ground in her meditating form.
"Ah, anyway... Did you figure out how we can remove these things?"
Valen pointed at the chains around his hands.
"W-We have some theories, but it’s still hard to tell. These things can stop us from using magic, and they can also prevent you from using your Maker system."
Levia then looked toward the others.
"And the chains used on the elves are also unique. They’re specifically designed to counter their summoning techniques. Yasmin’s chains are made of Crying Metal, which constantly consumes high levels of life energy."
Her eyes then moved toward Doran.
"And Doran..."
Everyone turned to look at him.
Unlike the others, Doran wasn’t only chained at his hands. A metal device had also been placed over his head, forcing him to keep looking at the ceiling.
More importantly, it prevented him from speaking.
He sat there completely still, his face filled with anger.
"Well... I guess Doran got an upgrade to his personality this way."
Valen smiled.
"Look at him. How cute he looks."
Doran immediately began shaking his entire body in anger.
Valen simply laughed.
"Ahem... Valen?"
Qasim finally spoke.
"Can you tell me why you aren’t worried? We’re literally in prison right now!"
Valen looked at him with a smile.
"I have a feeling we’ll be out of here soon anyway, so there’s no reason to overthink it."
He leaned back against the wall.
"Relax, boy~"
Then his expression suddenly changed as he remembered something.
"Oh, by the way. Back in the caves, you asked me what happened to Yasmin, remember?"
"Y-Yes, I remember."
"Well, you can congratulate her when we’re out because Team Four officially has its second Hilal-Awal member!"
Valen raised his fist.
"Wahoo!"
Qasim’s eyes widened.
"Wait, what?"
"Yes, you heard that right. Yasmin is in her second step now, also known as Hilal-Awal."
Qasim looked confused.
"I know you’re confused, so let me first explain how someone can advance from Mahik to Hilal-Awal."
Valen sat down on the ground and shifted around until he found a comfortable position before continuing.
"As you already know, to become a Mahik, you need to endure the pressure from a fragment of the ***Cube***."
Qasim nodded.
"But becoming a Hilal-Awal requires something much more difficult."
Valen raised a finger.
"You might be wondering what I mean by that."
He smiled.
"Remember when I told you that the world itself is watching us?"
Qasim nodded again.
"Well, we discovered that if someone accomplishes something that should normally be impossible, they can change their Egoistic Layer, making it stronger and larger."
Qasim’s expression became more serious.
"And what did we say the Egoistic Layer was?"
"It’s the part that allows us to advance through the ***steps*** in the first place, right?"
"Bingo!"
Valen pointed at him.
"So yeah. Do something that is almost impossible, and you’ll become a Hilal-Awal."
Qasim frowned.
"But how do I even know what qualifies as impossible?"
He thought for a moment.
"Let’s say I consider beating you something impossible. If I beat you up, does that mean I’ll become a Hilal-Awal?"
Valen’s smile disappeared.
"First of all... why would you even use beating me up as an example?"
He narrowed his eyes.
"Should I be concerned?"
Qasim remained silent.
"Second... no. You wouldn’t advance to the second step just because you beat me."
Valen then pointed toward Qasim’s body.
"Remember the cool tattoo you get when becoming a Mahik?"
"The tattoo?"
"Yeah. That thing is what determines whether you’ve actually accomplished something impossible or not."
Valen leaned closer.
"Think of it as the world’s eye sitting on your body, watching you all day and judging every action you take."
He shivered.
"Ooh... creepy."
"The tattoo..."
Qasim looked down at his own body.
"I see."
"So, what did Yasmin do?"
Valen scratched his head.
"Well, even though I’m not exactly an expert when it comes to the Irada power system, I do know what happened."
He looked toward Yasmin.
"Our Yasmin managed to advance from the Mid Tier of Desire all the way to the Peak Tier."
Qasim’s eyes widened.
"That normally shouldn’t happen. You are supposed to pass through the High Tier before reaching Peak."
Valen shrugged.
"But we were inside that weird cave with its strange time effect. I guess she managed to accumulate enough willpower during that time to make such a jump."
Qasim still looked confused.
Valen noticed it and quickly continued.
"Right, you probably don’t understand the tiers yet."
"Irada is divided into five ranks."
He raised one hand.
"Each rank has four tiers: Low, Mid, High, and Peak."
Qasim listened carefully.
"Since Yasmin is only a Mahik, she can currently cultivate within the lowest rank of Irada, which is called Desire."
"Before we entered the cave, her Irada was at Mid Tier."
Valen pointed toward Yasmin.
"Then, while she was helping Doran, she managed to break through her Mid Tier and jump straight to Peak."
"Oh, I see..."
Qasim smiled.
"Congratulations, Yasmin!"
Yasmin simply nodded.
"She’s just focused on her meditation right now..."
Qasim convinced himself.
"Oh, by the way, there is something I want you to help me with."
"Sure, what is it?"
"Umm... amm..." Qasim searched his memory to find something he remembered happened to him, but he couldn’t really remember what it was.
"Umm, never mind, I forgot... Probably not that important anyway."
...
After what felt like three hours, the group suddenly heard footsteps approaching from outside their cells.
Everyone became alert.
A key was thrown onto the ground.
By the time they looked toward the source, whoever had thrown it was already gone.
The group exchanged glances.
They all had the same theory.
"I knew you wouldn’t leave us here to rot, Zyra."
Valen picked up the key with a grin.
"Alright, everyone. Let’s remove these annoying chains and go home!"
