In OPTIK'S CLOCK TOWER - NIGHT

The dust from the exploded wall settled like gritty snow. In the gaping hole stood Enigma-as-All-Star, their form radiating a light almost too golden, their pose a masterpiece of heroic sculpture. It was All-Star as drawn by a comic book artist who only knew how to draw covers.

OPTIKMASTER scrambled backward, tripping over a cable. The smirk was long gone, replaced by the wide-eyed panic of a man whose script had just been set on fire.

"What—? The dampeners... my signal jammers... they should have neutralized any incoming—!"

ENIGMA-AS-ALL-STAR

(Voice a perfect, booming baritone, with a subtle, mocking edge)

"Technology has a hard time catching what was already here."

On the other side of the room, the image of the cowering "Toby" shimmered and dissolved into nothingness, like a mirage. Enigma had never stopped being in the room; they'd just changed the channel.

TRAILBLAZER, still zip-tied to the chair, rolled his eyes so hard it was a miracle they didn't achieve escape velocity.

"Took you long enough," he groaned. "This guy's monologue was longer than the Snyder cut of Justice League. And he doesn't even have cool armor."

OptikMaster's head whipped between the empty space where Toby was and the very solid, very present "All-Star." His entire plan, his grand reveal, was built on a foundation of smoke and mirrors—and Enigma was the master of both.

ENIGMA-AS-ALL-STAR

"You wanted a show, 'Master.' Let's give them a show."

EXT. ASCENDANTS TOWER - CYBERNETICS LAB - NIGHT

I, the REAL TOBY, watched this all unfold on a massive holographic screen. I was gripping the edge of a console so hard my knuckles were white.

CIRCUITRIX was in her element, a conductor of a digital symphony. Her organic eye was glued to the live feed, while her cybernetic one scanned a dozen different data-streams. The NSFW fan art of herself was now minimized, replaced by encryption-breaking algorithms and global trending maps.

"Oh, he's pissing his pants," Circuitrix cackled to herself, pointing down my crotch. "Look at the packet loss on his main server! It's beautiful!"

MS. BISHOP stood beside me, a statue of impeccable calm. "The pivot is in 3... 2... 1."

INT. OPTIK'S CLOCK TOWER - NIGHT

The "rescue" began. Enigma-as-All-Star moved with a fluid, powerful grace that was just slightly off—like watching a perfect animatronic. They ripped Trailblazer's restraints apart with theatrical ease.

TRAILBLAZER

(Stretching his arms)

"Finally. I had an itch on my nose for, like, an hour."

In a blur of motion, Trailblazer was suddenly a red tornado, zipping around the room. He wasn't just freeing himself; he was creating the perfect visual chaos. Papers, cables, and expensive broadcast equipment became a whirlwind of destruction, deliberately herding a terrified OptikMaster toward the center of the room.

ENIGMA-AS-ALL-STAR

(Projecting for the cameras they knew were still rolling)

"You threaten one of ours, you threaten us all! That is the one truth you failed to account for!"

It was cheesy. It was cliché. Yet it went hard anyway.

EXT. ASCENDANTS TOWER - CYBERNETICS LAB - NIGHT

CIRCUITRIX

"Primary narrative re-established. Heroic unity, check. Sacrifice, check. Now... for the virus."

Her fingers danced. On the main screen, a progress bar labeled MEMETIC_HAIL_MARY.EXE filled to 100%.

CIRCUITRIX

"Uploading the glitch... now."

For a single, breathtaking second, the live feed of the dramatic rescue stuttered.

It was replaced by the deepfake.

The "Me" on screen was a version of myself I barely recognized. Confident. Smirking. Leaning against a wall in what looked like a trendy bar. The text overlay was brutal and brilliant: #LatteLadWasInOnIt. The Ascendants play the long game.

Then, just as quickly, the feed snapped back to Enigma "heroically" shielding Trailblazer from a falling light fixture.

The effect was instantaneous.

CIRCUITRIX

(Slamming her fist on the console in triumph)

"Well, look at that! The forums are exploding! The timeline is having a stroke! They don't know if they should be stanning, doxxing, or shipping you with one of us!"

I felt the blood drain from my face. "You... you turned me into a conspiracy theory."

MS. BISHOP

(Without looking away from the screen)

"No, Williams. He turned you into a victim. We turned you into an enigma. It's a promotion."

INT. OPTIK'S CLOCK TOWER - NIGHT

The final blow came from Trailblazer. As the real authorities swarmed in, he stopped his blurring motion right in front of a camera that was still broadcasting. He gave a wink that was pure, unadulterated himbo charm.

"Hey, PR team!" Trailblazer greeted to the camera. "Sorry about the, uh... rooftop thing. This makes us even, right?"

Then he was gone, a sonic boom echoing through the tower as he zipped out.

Enigma-as-All-Star stood over a defeated OptikMaster, placing a foot gently but firmly on his chest. They leaned down, their voice dropping to a whisper only he could hear, the All-Star facade melting for a fraction of a second to reveal the true, chaotic entity beneath.

"You wanted to break the brand," Enigma whispered. "But darling... you can't break a mirror. You can only ever see more of yourself in it. And you, my dear, look pathetic."

With that, they straightened up, resumed the heroic pose, and let the police move in.

EXT. ASCENDANTS TOWER - CYBERNETICS LAB - NIGHT

The lab was silent, save for the hum of servers and Circuitrix's satisfied sigh. The main screen was split between news channels, all of them showing the "successful rescue," and social media feeds spiraling into absolute chaos over the #LatteLadWasInOnIt glitch.

Circuitrix swiveled in her chair, fixing me with that unnerving dual-gaze.

"Your digital footprint," Circuitrix started. "No longer a bland student profile. It's a contested battlefield. A myth. You're no longer just Toby Williams, intern. You're a narrative variable."

She grinned, a flash of white teeth and predatory glee.

"Like I said. Your digital virginity? Officially taken. Hope the climax was worth it."

I looked from her, to the screens, to Bishop's impassive face. My life was no longer my own. It was a piece of content, a tool, a weapon in the Ascendants' arsenal.

The initial terror was still there, a cold knot in my stomach. But beneath it, for the very first time, was something else—a terrifying, thrilling spark of understanding. This wasn't just a job. It was a war for reality itself, fought with press releases, deepfakes, and shapeshifting aliens.

And against all odds, I was still on the payroll.

I finally found my voice, though it was little more than a dry croak.

"So," I said, looking at Bishop. "What's the press release for this?"
