I thought I've seen it al. I did. I DID! PR disasters. Latte memes. An alien cosplaying my boss. Ms. Void turning a gala into a BDSM showcase. But nothing — nothing — prepares you for watching a man like OptikMaster die in real time.
It starts with the sirens. Everyone's still buzzing about the trial when the alerts go out: Class-7 Kaiju breach, south waterfront. Two of them. At once.
The news anchors don't even bother with transitions. One moment, they're recapping Optik's "performance." The next, the live feed cuts to chaos: concrete cracking like eggshells, twin leviathans crawling out of the bay, scales gleaming under floodlights.
Optik's transfer convoy is on the bridge when it happens. You can guess how that goes.
All-Star arrives first — blazing across the skyline like a patriotic comet. Heat vision arcs into the night, his body shimmering like a human lighthouse. He doesn't hesitate. Doesn't think. He just hurls himself between the kaiju and the bridge, fists like war drums.
But it's 2v1. Even for him, it's brutal.
From the Ascendants' rooftop, I watch the feed on a dozen screens and still don't believe it. All-Star's blood glitters like rubies in the floodlights as he tears one monster's jaw open. The second smashes him into the bridge hard enough to split steel.
And there — in the wreckage, for just a second — the cameras catch him. OptikMaster. Free of chains, stumbling, laughing. He lifts his face to the camera one last time.
"Guess I'll be trending forever."
The kaiju's tail comes down like a guillotine.
And that's it. OptikMaster is gone — no escape, no last trick. Just another body swallowed by the spectacle.
All-Star finishes the fight. Of course he does. The kaiju fall, the city saved, the people cheer. It's everything he's built to embody: Truth, Justice, Sacrifice.
But me? Don't know what to make of it.
