Stefan’s POV

I stirred awake to the System’s sound cutting through the last warm fog of sleep, dragging me up out of a dream that had been going somewhere very promising involving silk sheets and a woman whose face I couldn’t quite place anymore.

[DAILY TASKS:]

- Do not eat until noon — +100 AP

- Do not sleep until midnight — +100 EXP

- Help solve a problem — +200 AP

- Do not engage in sexual intercourse until noon — +100 AP

I read that last one twice, just to make sure I wasn’t still dreaming.

"Oh, come on." I whined.

My cock was already throbbing against my thigh, fully hard just from the warmth of Jonquil pressed against my side, and I could still feel the ghost of her wetness from last night lingering against my skin, a phantom promise of exactly what I had planned for this morning.

I had instantly embraced sleep on purpose without starting or finishing anything, banking on waking up nice and slow to the best possible alarm clock a man could ask for - Jonquil’s mouth, my cock, and absolutely nowhere either of us needed to be in a hurry to.

And now the System wanted to take that away from me too. Add it to the growing list of grievances I was keeping against this cosmic bureaucracy.

Before I could even properly mourn the loss, another notification chimed in, layering insult directly on top of injury.

[PRIMARY MISSION ASSIGNED.]

[Do something romantic with Jonquil.]

[TIME LIMIT: 10:00:00]

[REWARD: ⚠️ Locked]

[PENALTY: ⚠️ Locked]

"Something romantic?"

I let out a low chuckle, already feeling my confidence rebuild itself from the ashes of the sex ban. Romantic... Very easy.

I had built an entire career out of romantic, out of knowing exactly which soft word or gentle touch made a woman melt just enough to hand over her credit card information willingly. This was going to be the easiest ten hours of my entire miserable week.

At that moment, a sharp but distant whistle cut through the tent and Jonquil’s whole body went rigid beside me, waking instantly, no grogginess, no slow blinking - just immediate, total alertness like a switch had been flipped somewhere behind her eyes.

"We must ready ourselves," she said, already half-sitting up. "We leave this territory soon."

I caught her before she could get all the way up, one hand cupping the side of her face, gentle, guiding her back down toward me.

"Not so fast," I murmured. "Wait. There’s a rule now. After cuddling, before you get up in the morning, we do this first."

Her brow furrowed, that same careful, considering look she always gave anything unfamiliar. "What may that be?"

I didn’t answer with words. I closed the distance instead, pressing my mouth against hers, slowly, despite the ticking clock somewhere on both our minds.

Her lips were soft, warmer than I expected this early, and for a second she went completely still under me, the way she always did the first time anything new happened to her body.

I pulled back just far enough to speak against her mouth. "That’s what we can a good morning kiss. Another kind of training. Keep it somewhere safe in your memory."

Jonquil’s tongue slid slow across her own bottom lip, testing the lingering feeling of it, processing the sensation with the same careful precision she brought to everything else.

"I enjoyed how it made me feel." she said finally, quiet, almost surprised at her own admission.

Something warm bloomed in my chest at that, unexpected and a little inconvenient given the time crunch. I kissed her again anyway, slower this time, savoring the taste of her, one hand sliding up into her hair.

She was the one who broke it this time, gently but firmly, pressing a hand flat against my chest.

"I must go ready myself, you should as well." She said.

She rose and disappeared toward the bathhouse, leaving me alone on the fur, staring up at the tent ceiling with a smug, satisfied grin plastered across my face.

I waited for the ding. Waited for the System to congratulate me on a job well done, mission complete before I had even fully woken up, easiest five thousand-whatever this reward turned out to be.

Nothing came.

I frowned, sitting up slow. "That wasn’t enough? A kiss? A genuine, tender, good-morning kiss?"

[Host’s romantic execution: insufficient.]

The system replied flatly. And I swore there was something cold about the response. I stared at the empty air with my jaw dropped as if someone just poured a bucket of ice on me.

"Insufficient?" I said the word out loud, scrunching up my nose like the word tasted bad.

And indeed, it tasted bad. Terrible, actually.

"I have never, in twenty-nine years of my life, been called insufficient at anything involving a woman’s mouth or body."

No response, of course. The System only ever showed up to insult me, never to explain itself. Okay, maybe I was stretching it too far. It sometimes explain but only when it desired not whenever I wanted it.

"Define romance, then," I demanded, throwing both arms up. "Go on. Tell me exactly what I did wrong, since apparently a kiss doesn’t count anymore."

Silence.

I exhaled loudly through my mouth and closed my eyes briefly.

I sat there in the quiet, almost naked with only the animal skin blanket covering my waist down. I was gritting my teeth as I kept turning the word over and over in my head like it might crack open and hand me an actual answer if I just stared at it hard enough.

Romance. I’d built a decade-long career on it, or some twisted, profitable cousin of it, anyway - flowers, soft words, expensive dinners, all of it engineered to get exactly what I wanted out of a woman before she figured out what I actually was.

Okay, dude. That wasn’t romance, some quiet, unwelcome voice in the back of my head pointed out. That was a con with better lighting.

"Fine, what then is romance?" I muttered to the empty tent, to nobody, to the whole indifferent universe currently keeping score on my love life or should I call it sex life.

I wasn’t one to fall in love. I had never nurtured the idea.
