Third person’s POV

"I have only a few heartbeats to spare before I must return to Bloomhold." Lily maintained firmly and Stefan gave a short nod, already calculating.

"I can work with that."

"Let’s go." He added then led the way. Lily followed suit, walking by his side. If she were walking alone, she would have covered miles. His movements were slow for her but there was just something she couldn’t explain...

There was this feeling of loyalty sitting heavy in her chest toward the Alien and right now, the feeling was telling her that it would be a crime to walk ahead of him.

Lily’s face was devoid of any readable expression but her mind whirled. She couldn’t understand why someone would be walking as slow as this Alien besides her.

If it were the ordinary Bounds, she would have punched them in the stomachs and snapped at them to use their legs but since this Alien was no ordinary Bound, she kept her hands to herself.

Stefan, on the hand, was wincing as he walked. His body, despite the healing oil working through him, still felt sore, a quiet reminder that he could have been washed away by water and died for the second time after being beaten mercilessly by some Alien bouncers.

He could have just gone back to the palace and recuperate fully, he would have actually but there was this annoyance of disappointment sitting on his chest. It would be a huge damage to his ego to not get what he came and still gotten beaten.

After a moment, they finally arrived back at the building. Stefan stood and pointed at the place as he spoke up;

"I need to go back inside that building. And I need to do it without getting noticed or thrown out on my face again."

Lily’s gaze moved from his face to the tall, oddly painted structure, then back to him. Her voice, when it came, was the same formal, even tone she used for most things.

"What is it you are doing here?"

"I need to get something done." Stefan offered no further explanation. He had learned long ago that the less he said, the fewer questions he had to dodge later.

She studied him for a quiet second, water still dripping from the ends of her dark hair. "Do you know what this place is?"

"No, I was hoping you might."

"It is called the sacred home," Lily replied. "The Silent Matriarch holds authority over it. Noblewomen conduct their own business inside. It is not a matter that concerns Flowers."

Stefan let out a short, dry breath through his nose. "Their business indeed." He muttered to himself.

The drums still thudding faintly from within the walls told a different story, but he didn’t correct her. Correcting people rarely helped him get what he wanted.

"Well, I’m not a Flower and as of now, I have made it my concern."

"I need you to watch my back. Stay beside me. Act as protection while I walk through the place and handle what I need to handle." he explained.

Lily inclined her head once, the gesture precise. "Very well. But we must be quick. I have only a short time before I am expected back at Bloomhold."

"Understood." Stefan started toward the entrance, then glanced sideways at her. "Prepare yourself. There are some terrible bouncers in there."

Lily’s brow furrowed slightly, not understanding; "Bouncers?"

"Fighters. The ones who guard the place." His voice dropped into something closer to a mutter, the reckless edge that sometimes slipped out when pain and irritation mixed. "The same ones who beat me half to death and threw me in the river. If we run into them, I wouldn’t mind if someone plucked out a few of their eyes as payback." he snarled.

Lily looked at him with quiet assessment. "Describe them and I will fish them out and pluck out their eyes. There are many protectors of the sacred home."

"I can’t give you a proper description until I see them again. Let’s just get inside first." Stefan said, already moving, half of him was pleased to have Lily willing to give him his revenge.

And Stefan Sinclair being Stefan Sinclair, would get that revenge. If not today, there would always be another day.

They approached the main doors together. Lily took the lead without being asked, her posture straight, the natural authority of a Flower of Belladonna’s command settling around her like a cloak.

The protectors, these ones were different, stationed near the entrance saw her coming and shifted at once - recognition first, then deference. A respected warrior was not someone they stopped lightly, even at the threshold of the sacred home. Stefan stayed close at her shoulder, using her presence the way he had once used borrowed titles and expensive suits: as a door that opened for him.

The noise and heat of the hall struck them the moment they crossed inside.

Drums still pounded in heavy, relentless rhythm. The air remained thick with the scent of crushed flowers and warm oil. Hundreds of elegantly dressed noblewomen filled the long tables, fabrics rich, jewelry catching every flicker of light, postures relaxed in the way only the privileged could manage. Petals littered the polished floor in patterns that looked almost tacky.

Stefan’s eyes moved quickly, sharply, cutting across faces and postures, searching for one particular figure among the sea of curated beauty.

Kara was nowhere in sight.

He started angling toward one of the side corridors that looked as if it might lead to private rooms, already calculating angles and exits. Lily’s hand settled lightly on his arm, stopping him with surprising firmness.

"Opening doors without invitation would be disrespectful," she said quietly. "If you require answers to anything, we should go to the Silent Matriarch directly."

Walking up to the woman in charge to ask what she was making Kara do for her inside the palace?

"Nah, that won’t work." Stefan shook his head at once, letting out a dry chuckle at the thought.

Lily accepted the refusal without argument, but her next words were calm and final. "Then I must leave. My time is finished. Bloomhold expects me."

He couldn’t stop her. He knew that. A loyalty of twenty percent and a short favor bought him her presence for a handful of minutes, not her disobedience to the Bloomhold duties.

Stefan followed her back out through the main doors and into the cooler air outside. Lily gave him one last formal nod, the same precise gesture she had offered when she agreed to help, then turned and strode away in the direction of the Bloomhold road without looking back. Her figure remained straight and unhurried until it disappeared between the buildings.

He remained where he was.

For a long moment Stefan simply stood across from the sacred home, arms loosely crossed, watching the entrance and everything; the occasional noblewoman who stepped outside for air, the protectors who shifted posts with slow, practiced awareness.

If he could not get back inside cleanly, he could still learn something by paying attention Carriages arriving or leaving. Faces that looked important. Timing. Anything that might tell him what Kara had walked into and what she intended to walk back out carrying. but he wouldn’t risk it, not when he had nothing to protect himself from the supposed bouncers.

Meanwhile, inside the building, behind one of the heavier doors that lined the quieter inner corridor, a private meeting had just reached its end.

Low voices exchanged final words in the clipped, careful tone of people who preferred not to be overheard. Kara rose from her seat with the others, her expression as composed and unreadable as ever, and began walking toward the hall that would take her back to the main doors and the waiting evening beyond.

But before she could reach there, a quiet but firm voice called unto her;

"Kara, stay behind." It was the Silent Matriarch.

Kara’s heart skipped a beat but she forced her expression to remain composed.
