〖Warning: You are entering a Beta-Rank Dungeon: Mongrel Sewer〗

〖Objective: Defeat the Boss and move to the next level!〗

〖Level 3: Impossible〗

"Impossible? Someone’s giving themselves too much credit."

Luke landed in the dungeon. SPLASH! His boots plunged into sewage, sending filthy water into his mouth.

"BLEGH!"

As quickly as he could, he equipped his mask, wishing he could reverse time.

If the system meant the dungeon was impossible to stomach, Luke was beginning to understand why. But if it meant impossible to defeat? He kindly disagreed.

The dungeon was big and vast, but as long as it was a Beta rank, Luke underestimated it.

Vertical tunnels as wide as elevators connected the ceiling to the floor. The walls were stained green and brown, and the thick smell of sewage knew no ventilation.

"Please tell me we aren’t staying in this filth long. The smell alone is killing me from the inside out," Vivian wailed, losing to the fumes despite her mask.

"Quit being dramatic, sister. The sewage isn’t taking our health down. It’s just a mental distraction."

Luke turned to Raven, correcting her, "Actually, it is. This sewage is a Beta-grade damage-over-time, so we have to be careful. It’s a good thing the armor I forged for you guys gives two Aeon per hit."

Scarlett clenched her fist, looking at the armor Luke forged. She felt nothing but appreciation for him. With this armor on, she could skip summoning her phoenix and just fight in its place. She wasn’t going to put her friend’s life in danger a second time.

"Then we must begin."

Three mutated monsters started to crawl out of the darkness to greet the intruders.

They were the kind of creatures you would find in sewers: rats, leeches, and crocs. Except these had multiple legs, multiple eyes, or hybrid parts on their bodies.

「Notice!」

「Derek Cole is the first student to reach 50,000 pts!」

「Derek Cole has attained the title: Monarch of Trials!」

?!

Fifty thousand points?

Luke didn’t expect anyone to get this much on the very first day of the trial. He might just be looking at the winner of the trials, and the next Dux.

"Derek Cole, huh... The same guy who wants Scarlett. I can see he’s flaunting his potential..."

"What grade is his summon?" Luke asked after thinking for a while.

"You don’t know? Derek’s summon is the Abomination Slime! Just talking about it gives me goosebumps. It’s ranked Ancient. Can you believe a simple slime is an Ancient-grade beast?!" Vivian cried. "Who knows what that thing can do?"

Vivian had a reputation for exaggerating things, so Luke glanced at the others to see what they had to say.

Raven knew Prince Derek. After Luke was banished, Derek became a target of investigation for the Kingsley family because Cedric Kingsley wanted to find out everything about the boy Scarlett’s father was considering.

"Derek initially awakened his slime as a Primal summon. But he used abolished cultivation techniques to force it to evolve beyond its limits. That’s why Montclair Academy refused to admit him. Because of those taboo methods, people say he is invincible."

Those words started an avalanche in Luke’s head. Did he hear that right? A Primal summon had somehow broken through to the Ancient tier?

That should be impossible.

Whatever taboo shortcut they accused this Derek Cole guy of taking, he was definitely guilty of it.

And now he was farming his way to the top of the food chain with a summon of that nature.

Luke clenched his jaw and faced the sewer monsters again.

Not on his watch.

The monsters attacked right on cue, and Luke was more than happy to quench his thirst for battle. His first attacks came from his spear. It gave him longer range, stabbing through mutated rats still far away.

His sisters and Scarlett didn’t dawdle behind. They handled the monsters attacking from the sides. Some were even dropping from the tunnels above. Deformed leeches, ugly crocodiles, and other sewer monsters, as if they were eager to die.

"That’s the spirit," Luke grinned, thrusting his spear at more with the strength of his gauntlet.

The monsters either turned into Flame or XP, or both.

Raven and her Crimson Hellhound were just as productive as Luke. The sewer was big enough for all of them to explore their summon’s abilities, and Raven took up just as much space as Luke did.

Black flames surrounded her for protection, thanks to her beast.

The second floor had taught Raven not to throw herself in the middle of monsters like that anymore. This time, she wanted them to come to her while her summon played spearhead.

"Brim! Left side!"

The Hellhound ploughed through the group of monsters Raven pointed at, smashing into the sewer wall. ROARR! Brim burned them to steak before they recovered and ate some of them for lunch.

"Now, behind you! Flame Burst! Those leeches are too close!"

Brim spun around just in time and eliminated the leeches, then it roared over their corpse. The connection between Raven and her beast told her it was enjoying itself.

Unlike Scarlett, Raven had never encountered a dungeon before, so she thought she and her beast might just be unprepared. But it turned out she was more than a match.

Also, the armor Luke gave her removed the worries of running out of magical energy. As long as Brim touched a monster, Raven’s Aeon refilled +2, meaning she could keep up this pace through this level.

And she needed that because the sewer monsters were very aggressive because of the mutation.

The Hellhound kept attacking when Raven commanded, and the more they fought, the more their teamwork showed. Brim would knock a monster away, Raven would point at another target, and the Hellhound would be there in the blink of an eye.

Soon, the Crimson Hellhound started working hand in hand with Vivian’s Seraph Leaper.

It started with Raven’s summon grabbing three monsters by the jaws and throwing them into the air. It was about to impale them with Hell Spikes, but Vivian’s summon intercepted them with kicks like a martial arts master.

"Vivi, that works," Raven laughed. "Let’s do it again!"

The sisters tried the same move again with more monsters. The way they were killing the monsters so quickly made them even more interested in working together.

For instance, Vivian’s rabbit would fly through the mob, causing dozens of rats and other creatures to chase it. The monsters had no idea it was just leading them to the Crimson Hellhound.

"Brim! Now! Searing Howl!"

At Raven’s command, the sewer became so hot that the sewage began to bubble!

The Crimson Hellhound didn’t even need Raven’s instructions to act. It already knew what to do when the Seraph Leaper brought the monsters toward it.

Summons could develop synchrony with each other. The longer they trained and fought together, the better they could understand each other. Sometimes they didn’t even need their masters to give them orders.

Brim and Peaches were a good example of this. Since Raven and Vivian were sisters, their summons had grown up together too.

For eighteen years, the Crimson Hellhound and Seraph Leaper had trained and fought beside each other. They already knew what the other one liked to do in battle and could tell what attack was coming next.

This was something that couldn’t be built in just a few days. It took years of fighting together to get this kind of teamwork.

Scarlett had seen this, and she was impressed—maybe envious.

But envy was a good feeling. It meant she had found the best. And would learn from the best.

She could practice and get better alongside them, and one day, master her mythic phoenix.
