Scarlett and her Empyrean Phoenix continued from there.

After clearing the first sanctuary, they flew into the second one without giving the dungeon any chance to breathe.

Good thing the Zombie Priest dropped more Mutation Elixirs. This let them extend their immunity to the mutation.

It was a reminder that they couldn’t afford to linger for long in this place. Each elixir lasted for only ten minutes, while the chapel’s mutation also buffed the surrounding monsters every five minutes.

If they slowed down for too long, the dungeon would eventually become stronger than the protection they had.

Inside this second sanctuary, the monsters had evolved into more varied and deadly kinds. Hulk zombies. Skeleton dogs. And nastier gargoyles.

The Chapel Keeper of the second sanctuary was a Shamanic Wraith, floating behind the army. With its crooked staff, it could summon more monsters to replace the ones slain, acting like the queen of a nest.

The Shamanic Wraith floated above with its crooked staff raised. It began chanting in a language none of them understood, but the dungeon did.

"Nymeria! Clear the left flank! Flame Arc!" Scarlett instructed as monsters began crawling out from the shadows, stretching on the floor.

The Empyrean Phoenix swept across the sanctuary, its wings painting the air gold before a blazing arc of fire swallowed the monsters on the left. They burned away so quickly that only ashes remained, but while the Phoenix was busy clearing that side, another group had already reached it.

Gargoyles dropped from the ceiling, their claws scraping across its back, while two zombie brutes leaped from broken balconies and slammed into its side.

"Above you!" Scarlett warned

The Phoenix spun around and blasted them whilst in the air, turning them into falling fireballs. But while it dealt with the air, more monsters rushed in from below. Rotten claws scraped its immaculate feathers, and a zombie even struck it with a hammer to the ribs.

BOOM!

The Phoenix got knocked sideways. It caught its balance quickly, but a few glowing feathers floated to the floor and cindered the grunts.

Meanwhile, the Phoenix flew higher to recover. It was not a serious wound, but it was proof that this fight was not going to be easy.

The mutated monsters, as dumb as they are, sure knew they couldn’t beat a Mythic beast one at a time. So, rather than attacking with no fashion, they replaced every ally systematically

When the Phoenix returned and began a purging routine, every group it incinerated was replaced by another, becoming an endless tide, because every second spent killing one pack gave another pack time to get closer.

"Don’t stay still, so they won’t get to you!" Scarlett instructed.

The Phoenix obeyed, diving between broken pillars while crushing monsters beneath its talons as it ascended again.

Using Echo, Scarlett flew across the sanctuary to help her Phoenix. She was able to draw some monsters, like gargoyles, to her and away from her beast. When they thought they had her bound, she spun around and dragged them to the floor with Flaming Fetters.

The sanctuary itself soon became another problem. The ancient-looking pillars were already cracked, the roof groaned after every explosion, and broken pieces of the floor kept collapsing, forming a pit below.

In essence, the sanctuary became too cramped for Nymeria’s attacks because a few more could bring the dungeon down on everybody.

"Use smaller attacks," Scarlett instructed, trying to mitigate the new problem. "Let’s keep the ceiling up."

But the mutation was the bigger hurdle.

The monsters stopped caring about dying.

Any one that had fallen burst into a purple-black substance that touched others to make them bigger and uglier.

Some monsters even threw themselves into the phoenix’s fire just to make a path for the others. Soon, a lot of scratches built up all over Nymeria’s body.

For the first time, Nymeria lost control of the fight. The swarm buried it under sheer numbers, pinning the mythic beast down.

The Shaman Wraith worsened the situation by summoning chains that wrapped around one of the phoenix’s wings while more creatures piled over it.

"No..." Scarlett whispered, using Echo to save her beast by cutting it free from the chains. "Make breathing room. I’ll handle them!"

The Empyrean Phoenix roared in anger, frustration, and agony at the damage it dealt.

This made it enter a pre-berserk mode, using wind to blast the pests anywhere and anyhow. And that was exactly what Scarlett wanted.

"Yes!" Scarlett smiled.

Now the monsters lost their formation; she flew up with her Phoenix, two sets of fire wings above the battlefield, where they both got brighter than the sun.

At that moment of mythical power with her beast, Scarlett pointed down at their enemies. "Solar Salvation!"

Reddish gold fire swallowed the dungeon, yet the monsters burned from inside their bodies, not outside. Even the Shaman Wraith screamed as the flames consumed the souls of its army.

Only a handful of monsters survived, but the Phoenix was too exhausted to fight more.

Scarlett wanted to handle them herself, but she also wanted to push her summon just a little bit more. It wasn’t every day they got along like this, so she wanted to make good use of the moment.

But she wasn’t a heartless mistress who would force her beast to fight despite so many injuries.

At the moment, a bell was hanging loose from a tower. So, Scarlett instructed her beast to use some wind to break it loose.

WHOOSH!

The bell groaned and crashed on top of the last monsters, crushing them under tons of stone.

"The Chapel Keeper!" Scarlett remembered, looking around for the Shamanic Wraith because she didn’t remember killing it. And if she hadn’t, then it could still summon more monsters.

But after looking around, she saw it had already been handled.

Impaled by Luke’s spear, and he was holding it over the flames of his gauntlet like it was a marshmallow. It was so funny; she laughed as she and her beast returned to the floor level.

Not long after, light washed over Scarlett as she leveled up. While Luke was at LV. 25, she was at LV. 19 and was only making it to LV 20 now.
