Pampering Discarded Heroines Triggers My 10,000x Rebate System
Chapter 48: Three Against TwoEvren pulled his cleaver from the stone and stepped back, narrowing his eyes as he watched the smoke instantly knit back together.
"They’re intangible in this dark miasma," he said, keeping his eyes on the three circling beasts. "Physical attacks pass right through them."
"They hide in the shadows to stay invincible," Amber replied as she landed lightly beside him and drew both of her sabers.
"Light them up, Amber."
Amber nodded. She flared her wings and released a powerful surge of radiant mana. A brilliant golden light erupted from her wings, blazing like a miniature sun in the middle of the dark corridor.
The intense golden-frost radiance tore through the black fog, burning the shadow miasma away within a thirty-meter radius.
The three Shadow Reapers shrieked in agony as the bright light hit them. Their smoky, intangible bodies hardened immediately, turning into solid, dark purple chitin under light.
"They’re physical now!" Amber shouted.
Evren didn’t waste a split second. He stepped forward with earth-shaking momentum and swung the Frost-Bane Cleaver along the stone floor.
[FROST WAVE!]
A powerful wave of freezing blue mana tore across the stone floor, hitting the three solid reapers. The extreme cold instantly froze them into solid blocks of dark ice.
Before the creatures could even try to break free, Amber shot forward like a golden streak of lightning.
Her twin sabers flashed in two beautiful, crescent-shaped arcs of frost fire, cutting them cleanly in half. Their frozen bodies exploded into thousands of glittering purple crystals that dissolved into thin air.
Evren exhaled a cloud of white breath, lowering his cleaver. "Good teamwork."
Amber smiled back, sheathing her sabers slightly. "Anytime, Evren."
Evren glanced at the floating system timer in his vision. [Time Remaining: 5 Hours, 12 Minutes.]
"Let’s keep moving," Evren said.
—
With Amber keeping her radiant wings flared to keep the shadow fog at bay, the two of them advanced through the rest of the corridor without any difficulty.
Any shadow beasts that tried to ambush them were instantly forced into physical form by the light and shattered by Evren’s frost strikes.
Ten minutes later, they reached the end of the ruins.
Before them was a vast, open cavern.
Floating in the center of the chamber was a circular obsidian altar, lit up by a single beam of pale violet starlight from above.
And growing directly in the middle of the altar was a crystal-like flower.
It had six translucent purple petals that glowed with gentle, pure light, radiating a calming energy that pushed back the surrounding darkness... the S-Rank Abyssal Shadow-Lotus.
Holding the flower in place were four thick, dark chains of void energy that anchored it to four stone pillars surrounding the altar.
"Is that... a flower?" Amber asked, looking at the glowing purple petals in surprise. "Why is a lotus sealed at the bottom of an S-Rank rift?"
"That’s an S-Rank Abyssal Shadow-Lotus," Evren explained. "It’s the catalyst we need to dissolve the necrosis in Zephyra’s arms."
Amber’s eyes widened with realization. "Then we’re definitely taking it home."
"Let’s get it and get out," Evren said, walking toward the stone bridge that led to the altar.
Just as Evren’s boot touched the bridge, the four void chains rattled violently. The dark mist around the altar began to boil, and three dark whirlpools opened between the pillars.
Three figures slowly stepped out of the whirlpools, standing between Evren and the altar.
They looked like humans, but their entire bodies were made of pitch-black shadow matter, with glowing red eyes in their sockets.
One was a massive, eight-foot-tall berserker holding twin shadow battleaxes, radiating heavy dark mana.
The second was a slender archer standing atop a broken pillar, drawing a longbow made of dark energy with a glowing void arrow aimed straight at Evren’s head.
The third was a crouched assassin holding two curved shadow daggers coated in dripping black poison, melting into the shadows and reappearing two yards to their left.
"Of course," Amber’s eyes narrowed as she gripped her twin sabers. "The rift has shadow guardians to stop us from reaching the altar."
"Three against two," Evren said, stepping onto the bridge and raising his frost cleaver. "Watch your back, Amber."
Without warning, the archer on the pillar released its bowstring. A streak of crackling dark lightning tore through the air, curving sharply toward Amber.
Amber reacted instantly, crossing her twin blades in front of her face.
CLANG!
The dark arrow detonated against the dragon-bone steel, but the force of it pushed Amber back three feet through the air.
Before she could recover, the archer fired a rapid barrage of void arrows, forcing her into a series of tight, evasive aerial rolls.
At the same time, the massive axe-wielder roared. It lunged forward, swinging both heavy battleaxes down toward Evren with terrifying speed.
Evren planted his feet and raised the Frost-Bane Cleaver horizontally to block.
BOOOM!
The impact sounded like a bomb going off.
The force cracked the stone under Evren’s boots, pushing him back a few inches. The dark mana from the axes sent a stinging shockwave through his arms.
Right as Evren was locked in the axe clash, the air behind his neck turned freezing cold.
The shadow assassin stepped out from the darkness directly behind Evren’s blind spot, driving two dripping poison daggers straight toward his spine.
Catching the sudden dark blur in the corner of his eye, Evren looked over his shoulder and reacted instantly.
He twisted sharply, angling the steel spine of his cleaver to deflect the incoming strike.
The left dagger glanced off the cleaver, but the right dagger slashed across Evren’s back, tearing through his dark coat.
The poisoned blade scraped against Evren’s skin, sounding like metal dragging against granite. Thanks to his 10x physical body density, the blade failed to pierce his flesh, leaving only a faint red welt.
"Amber! Switch targets!" Evren shouted, shoving the axe-wielder back with a burst of strength.
"On it!" Amber called out from the air.
She feinted a retreat upward, drawing the archer’s aim toward the ceiling. The moment the archer aimed its bow upward, Amber folded her wings into a steep, inverted dive.
She dropped like a falling meteor, her twin sabers blazing with golden-red frost.
Seeing her drop, the archer didn’t panic. It slammed its dark bow against the stone pillar, releasing a powerful shockwave.
The shockwave clipped Amber’s left wing, throwing her off balance mid-air. At point-blank range, the archer fired three rapid void arrows straight at her chest.
Amber gritted her teeth.
In mid-fall, she spun her body, using her right saber to deflect two arrows in rapid sparks, while the third grazed her jacket sleeve.
Using the spinning momentum, Amber kicked off a floating chunk of stone and snapped into a spin mid-air. Before the archer could draw its next arrow, she slipped inside its guard.
Her left saber hooked the dark bowstring, yanking it aside, while her right dragon-bone blade sliced cleanly through the archer’s neck.
It shrieked as its head separated from its shoulders, dissolving into black smoke that faded into nothingness.
Seeing the archer fall, the axe-wielder went into a frenzy. Dark lightning surged across its massive frame as it charged Evren, raising both axes for a killing blow.
"Die!" Evren growled as he charged straight into the swing.
He stepped inside the monster’s reach, ducking under the axe blades as they whistled inches above his head.
With his left hand, Evren slammed an open palm into the center of the creature’s chest.
[ABSOLUTE FROST BURST!]
Freezing mana erupted into the creature’s core, coating its armor in thick white frost.
Yet the berserker roared through the pain. Its dark mana flared back violently, and with its remaining left arm, it swung its axe in a brutal backhand that slammed directly into Evren’s left shoulder!
The heavy impact forced Evren’s boots to skid three feet back across the stone bridge.
The monster lunged forward again, raising both axes for a crushing overhead slam.
"Enough!" Evren growled.
Instead of backing away, Evren lowered his cleaver and caught the descending axe handles with his bare hands. The raw kinetic clash shook the entire stone bridge, sending spiderweb cracks tearing through the pavement.
Veins bulged along Evren’s forearms as he pushed back against the monster’s brute force.
Channeling his full strength, Evren violently twisted his grip, snapping both wooden axe handles in half.
With the monster’s balance broken, Evren grabbed the Frost-Bane Cleaver with his right hand and drove it straight through the creature’s frozen waist.
The axe-wielder shattered into hundreds of frozen black shards, collapsing across the bridge like broken glass.
Evren exhaled heavily, his breath turning to steam in the freezing air.
Only the shadow assassin remained.
The assassin stood twenty feet away, crouching low with its daggers drawn. Seeing two of its companions obliterated in seconds, the creature let out a low, desperate hiss.
Instead of charging Evren, the assassin spun around and dashed straight toward the altar!
"Stop it!" Amber yelled, diving toward the bridge.
The assassin reached the altar before Amber could intercept it. With a thrust, it stabbed both of its poisoned daggers directly into the ancient stone base, channeling its entire dark mana core into the four void chains holding the Lotus!
SNAP! SNAP! SNAP! SNAP!
All four void chains shattered in a blinding flash of violet lightning.
The assassin dissolved into pure dark energy, sinking into the cracks of the altar.
RUUUUUMBLE!
The entire obsidian cathedral began to shake violently. Deep cracks tore across the stone floor, and the violet void under the chamber began to boil with terrifying pressure.
From the dark abyss beneath the altar, two colossal, obsidian-plated arms with razor-sharp scythe blades along the forearms, slammed onto the edges of the platform.
A towering, twelve-foot shadow titan with eight glowing crimson eyes slowly pulled itself up from the depths, radiating a terrifying Level 60 aura that made the very air feel like liquid lead.
[ALERT: LEVEL 60 VOID-SHADOW SOVEREIGN AWAKENED]
Evren wiped sweat from his chin, his eyes locked on the massive boss as he tightened his grip on the frost cleaver.
Amber landed lightly at his side, her golden wings humming with mana as she raised her twin sabers.
"Looks like the real fight starts now."
