Pampering Discarded Heroines Triggers My 10,000x Rebate System
Chapter 50: No More Playing Safe"Amber!" Evren roared.
His voice bounced off the stone cavern walls.
Thirty feet away, Amber lay motionless against the base of the broken obsidian pillar. Her dragon-bone sabers were scattered across the floor, and her golden wings had vanished into thin trails of gray smoke.
The twelve-foot void monster didn’t give Evren a second to breathe.
Its eight glowing red eyes shifted back toward him, and its chest expanded as it let out a low, vibrating growl.
Suddenly, the gravity in the room rose.
An invisible pressure slammed down against the bridge, three times heavier than before. The stone under Evren’s boots splintered with loud cracks, and every movement felt like trying to run through deep water.
The monster lunged forward, swinging its five remaining scythe arms in a relentless, overlapping barrage.
SWOOSH! SWOOSH! SWOOSH!
Dark purple blades whistled through the air, cutting off every possible escape route.
Evren gritted his teeth and raised the Frost-Bane Cleaver, parrying two descending scythes in rapid succession.
CLANG! CLANG!
Sparks exploded across the steel, but the third scythe arm came in from a low, blind angle. Evren twisted his body to dodge, but the increased gravity drastically slowed his movement.
The razor-sharp tip of the scythe sliced cleanly through his dark trench coat and tore across the left side of his ribs.
A sharp pain flared through Evren’s side as warm blood soaked through his shirt and dripped onto the cold stone floor.
The force of the blow knocked him sideways, forcing his boots to skid across the cracked bridge.
Evren pressed his left hand against his bleeding side, his gasps forming ragged white puffs in the cold air. His ribs ached from the blunt impact, but his dense physical body had kept the blade from penetrating his vital organs.
He looked up at the monster.
Dark purple mist was swirling rapidly around the crack in the monster’s chest plate. The frost Evren had blasted into its core earlier was melting away, and the thick obsidian armor was slowly knitting itself back together.
’If that chest plate seals, all our damage is gone,’ Evren realized.
He glanced at the glowing timer in the corner of his vision:
[Time Remaining: 4 Hours, 05 Minutes.]
Evren looked over at the broken pillar where Amber was lying still on the stone.
If this fight dragged on, another shockwave could easily collapse the pillar and crush her. And with the gravity field getting heavier by the second, trying to fight defensively would only bleed him dry.
’No more playing it safe,’ Evren thought. ’I have to get inside its reach and finish this now.’
The void monster shrieked, raising two upper scythe arms to deliver a crushing downward cross-strike aimed straight at Evren’s head.
Instead of raising his cleaver to block, Evren charged straight into the attack.
He lowered his head and leaned forward, letting the left scythe blade scrape through his coat collar, slicing open the fabric inches from his neck.
Before the blades could retract, Evren dropped the tip of his cleaver, reached up with both hands, and grabbed the monster’s descending scythe limbs right below the sharp blade joints.
The massive downward force slammed into Evren’s shoulders like a falling building.
His knees buckled, crashing hard against the stone bridge and sending spiderweb fractures tearing across the pavement.
The dark mana on the monster’s armor hissed violently against Evren’s skin, scorching his palms.
"I’ve got you, you bastard!" Evren snarled.
Veins bulged along Evren’s neck and forearms as he channeled the full strength of his S-Rank physical density. With a roar, Evren twisted his upper body and torqued the monster’s lower scythe joint against its natural hinge.
A sickening crack echoed through the cavern as the monster’s lower scythe arm snapped clean in half, black blood spraying across the stone.
The monster shrieked in rage.
Unable to pull its arms free, the creature lowered its obsidian-plated snout and smashed its head directly into Evren’s face.
The brutal headbutt split Evren’s lower lip and sent stars flashing across his vision. Blood filled his mouth.
Evren’s head snapped back, but his hands never let go of the monster’s remaining arm.
Spitting a mouthful of blood onto the monster’s chest, Evren stepped forward and drove a bone-shattering knee strike directly into the inside of the monster’s right leg joint.
CRACK!
The monster’s leg gave way, and its massive twelve-foot frame stumbled forward, completely losing its balance.
The crack in its chest armor was now wide open, barely inches from Evren’s face.
"Die!" Evren roared.
Evren released his grip, grabbed the Frost-Bane Cleaver with both hands, and thrust the steel point straight into the center of the cracked chest wound.
The blade pierced deep into the monster’s chest cavity, sinking halfway to the hilt.
Evren didn’t hesitate for a single microsecond. He poured every single ounce of his remaining mana directly into the weapon’s wyvern core.
[FROST BURST — MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE!]
BOOOOOM!
An explosion of pure, absolute-zero freezing mana detonated directly inside the monster’s chest.
The reaction was instantaneous.
Blinding white frost erupted from the monster’s open chest wound, tearing through its internal organs and freezing its mana channels solid. Icicles burst out from its mouth, ears, and eight glowing red eyes, snuffing out their glow.
Within two seconds, the entire twelve-foot void monster turned into a frozen, motionless statue of solid black-and-blue ice.
Evren planted his boot against the monster’s frozen chest and yanked the Frost-Bane Cleaver free.
He stepped onto the monster’s frozen knee, lifted his blade high with both hands, and brought it down in one powerful blow across the creature’s neck.
The frost blade cleaved straight through the frozen neck like glass.
The monster’s frozen head detached, and its entire twelve-foot body collapsed, shattering into thousands of ice shards that exploded across the bridge before dissolving into black ash.
The suffocating gravity in the cavern instantly vanished.
Evren dropped to one knee, leaning heavily on his cleaver as he gasped for air.
His chest heaved, sweat and blood dripping from his chin onto the cold stone. His ribs throbbed with sharp pain, and his arms trembled from the strain of the battle.
He took three deep breaths, wiped the blood from his mouth with the back of his sleeve, and forced himself to stand up.
Behind the shattered remains of the boss, the altar stood completely quiet.
Resting in the center was the S-Rank Abyssal Shadow-Lotus. Its six translucent purple petals glowed with soft, warm light, completely untouched by the violence of the battle.
Evren walked over to the altar, his boots clicking on the quiet stone.
He reached down with steady hands, carefully gripped the stem of the glowing flower, and plucked it from the stone base.
A soft, golden glow enveloped the lotus as Evren stored it safely into his Spatial Storage Ring.
A bright blue system notification flashed across his vision:
[EMERGENCY QUEST ITEM ACQUIRED: 1x S-RANK ABYSSAL SHADOW-LOTUS (1/1)]
[STAGE 1 PURIFICATION MEDICINE READY FOR SYNTHESIS]
Evren let out a long breath of relief. "We got it, Zephyra."
CRACK!
Before Evren could even take a step back toward Amber, a terrifying sound echoed through the ceiling.
The purple starlight above the altar suddenly flickered and died.
The entire dimensional cavern began to shake violently.
Without the Sovereign’s core mana holding the rift stable, the spatial walls of the dimension began tearing apart. Massive jagged tears of purple void lightning ripped through the sky, and large boulders began raining down from the ceiling.
A huge crack split the cavern floor right down the middle.
Evren’s eyes widened in pure horror.
The stone bridge beneath his feet cracked in half, and the deep fissure was racing at terrifying speed toward the far side of the cavern... straight toward the broken pillar where Amber was lying unconscious.
The floor beneath Amber’s still body began to tilt violently toward the bottomless purple void chasm.
"Amber!" Evren screamed, kicking off the falling stone and sprinting with everything he had.
