Pampering Discarded Heroines Triggers My 10,000x Rebate System
Chapter 52: Breakfast Is ReadyWhen Evren woke up the next morning, the morning sunlight was already pouring through the high glass windows.
He freshened up, left his room and headed straight into the master bedroom. Amber was still fast asleep, curled up under the thick duvet. Her breathing was slow and steady, and the healthy pink color had returned to her cheeks.
Evren pulled the blanket up over her bare shoulder, then quietly closed the door behind him.
Downstairs, the smell of fresh coffee and buttered toast filled the hallway.
Arthur was already standing beside the long dining table, setting down plates of eggs, warm pastries, and fresh fruit.
"Good morning, Chairman Evren," Arthur bowed. "Breakfast is ready."
"Thanks, Arthur," Evren said, pulling out a chair and sitting down with a cup of black coffee.
A moment later, soft footsteps came down the marble stairs.
Zephyra walked into the dining room. She was wearing a simple, loose black robe. Her long dark hair was tied back, and she looked rested for the first time since she came to the mansion.
Right behind her, the white RX-9 medical droid hovered silently on its magnetic tracks, trailing a few steps behind before stopping near the wall.
Zephyra paused by the doorway, looking a bit unsure.
"Come sit," Evren said with a small smile.
She nodded quietly and took the seat across from him.
Arthur poured her a cup of warm herbal tea and placed it gently in front of her.
Zephyra reached out her right hand to pick up the cup. Just as her fingers touched the porcelain, her wrist gave a sudden, random twitch.
Clack!
The teacup rattled loudly against the saucer, spilling a few drops of hot tea onto the tablecloth.
Zephyra pulled her hand back fast. Her jaw tightened, and her face went slightly red with embarrassment.
Evren didn’t stare or make a face. He just reached across the table, slid the cup back into the center, and rested his hand over hers for a second.
"It’s just an aftershock," Evren said plainly. "The purple lotus wiped out the poison last night. The dead nerves are just waking up. The random twitches will fade in time."
Zephyra looked at her hand, taking a slow breath. "It doesn’t hurt anymore. That’s the strange part. For four months, every twitch felt like burning needles. Now... it just feels like numb static."
"That means it’s working," Evren said.
Before Zephyra could answer, the dining room doors swung open again.
Amber shuffled into the room.
Her dark hair was a wild, messy bird’s nest sticking out in every direction. She was wearing an oversized white cotton nightie that dragged slightly on the floor, squinting her eyes against the bright morning light.
She didn’t say a single word. She just dragged her feet over to the table, slumped hard into the plush chair next to Evren, and held her empty ceramic mug straight up in the air toward Arthur.
Arthur smiled warmly and filled it with hot black coffee.
Amber took a big sip, let out a loud, groggy sigh, and rested her chin in her palm. Only then did she blink her sleepy eyes and notice Zephyra sitting across from her.
Amber gave her a tired, warm smile. "Morning," she mumbled in a sleepy voice. "You look a lot better."
Zephyra looked at her lap, her fingers twitching slightly against her silk robe. "My hands... they still have random spasms."
Amber wrapped both of her hands around her warm coffee mug.
"When Evren gave me the first batch of medicine, my legs did the exact same thing," she said softly, looking straight into Zephyra’s eyes. "The dead nerves started twitching and jerking as they woke back up. It felt scary at first, but it just meant the healing was working. Trust him. You’re going to get through this."
Zephyra froze. A wave of relief washed over her face, and she slowly nodded.
On the wall across the dining room, the large news screen lit up on mute.
Evren tapped his remote to turn on the audio.
The morning news anchor was holding up a tablet with last night’s live footage playing on repeat.
"...miraculous conclusion in Sector 4," the reporter said with high energy. "The S-Rank Shadow Rift has been fully sealed. Newly registered guild Apex Sovereign Conglomerate, led personally by Chairman Evren Crawford and Vice-Chairman Amber Sterling, cleared the core boss without a single civilian casualty."
The screen switched to clips of the massive crowd cheering on the rainy street as Evren carried Amber out of the golden exit portal.
Then, the news anchor’s tone changed.
"Meanwhile, public outrage continues to explode against the Prescott Guild. Online forums and civic boards are flooding with angry complaints demanding to know why Veridia’s highest-ranked guild locked their gates and hid behind private security while Sector 4 burned."
Evren took a sip of his coffee and muted the screen.
No official city council announcement was even needed yet. The people of Veridia had already made their choice.
Just then, Mikay walked into the dining room.
He was wearing a fresh suit, and under his arm was the dark leather case with the gold-crested imperial seal.
"Morning, Boss," Mikay said, nodding to Amber and Zephyra. "As requested last night...," he trailed off as he set the tablet on the table in front of Evren and tapped the screen.
It was the high-level document from the National S-Rank High Council... the one Mikay had told him about the night before. Evren had told him he’d go through it in the morning.
Evren skimmed through the formal text.
The National Council wasn’t sending a polite congratulations; they were demanding an urgent hearing.
A newly formed local guild taking down an S-Rank rift in a single night with just two fighters had set off alarms in the Capital. They wanted to know the combat data, the methods used, and who authorized the drop.
Evren was officially ordered to report to the Imperial Capital within seven days.
"They’re nervous," Mikay said in a low voice. "A private guild having that kind of raw S-Rank combat power outside the national registry scares the bureaucrats."
Evren’s eyes moved down to the very bottom of the document.
There was a small line of official text stamped below the council seal:
INCIDENT LOG: VERIDIA SECTOR 4 WAS THE 4TH S-RANK RIFT EVENT RECORDED NATIONWIDE IN THE PAST 60 DAYS.
Evren stopped reading.
"Four S-Rank rifts in two months?" Evren asked, looking up at Mikay.
"Yeah," Mikay’s face turned grim. "Usually, the whole country only sees one S-Rank rift every two or three years. Now four have popped up in sixty days. Two on the eastern border, one near the capital coast, and now Veridia."
Amber set her coffee cup down on the saucer. Her sleepy look was completely gone, replaced by the focus of a seasoned combatant.
"The rifts are speeding up," Amber said quietly. "The dimensional walls are getting thinner."
Evren tapped the edge of the glass tablet for a few seconds before respnding.
"Tell the envoy we received the summons," he said to Mikay. "We’ll head to the Capital in three days."
"Understood, Boss. I’ll arrange the private transport and security convoy." Mikay bowed and took the tablet back.
—
After breakfast, Evren walked out onto the wide stone terrace on the third floor of the manor.
The morning breeze blew across Victoria Hill, carrying the clean smell of pine trees and fresh mountain air. From up here, the entire skyline of Veridia Metropolis spread out below him under the clear blue sky.
Soft footsteps sounded on the stone tiles behind him.
Evren turned his head to see Zephyra standing a few paces back.
She walked over to the stone railing and stopped beside him, looking out at the city towers in the distance.
Her left hand gave a tiny, sudden twitch. She slowly closed her fingers into a tight fist until the spasm stopped, then let her arm rest naturally by her side.
"You’re going to the Capital," Zephyra said. It wasn’t a question.
"Yeah," Evren said, leaning his forearms on the railing. "The High Council wants answers about the rift."
Zephyra stayed quiet for a few seconds, but her violet eyes looked unusually sharp.
"The man you outbid at Arena #9," she said in a quiet voice. "His name is Lord Varek Drossian."
Evren turned his eyes toward her. "The guy in the velvet coat?"
"Yes," Zephyra nodded.
"You know him?"
"Before the auction started, he came down to the holding cages with Balthazar to inspect me. He bragged right outside my cell about who he was. He runs private shadow contracts in the upper circles of the Imperial Capital, buying broken S-Rank awakeners from black-market pits and turning them into obedient tools."
She looked down at her wrists, then met Evren’s gaze.
"He wanted me because of my shadow-slip ability," Zephyra continued. "He told Balthazar he was going to put a neural slave collar on me and take me to the Capital. You didn’t just outbid him. You embarrassed him in front of the entire underworld, and he has deep connections inside the National High Council. When you arrive in the Capital, he will already know you’re there."
Evren looked back at the sunlit city. A calm, confident smile played on his lips. "Good," he simply said. "I guess that saves me the trouble of looking for him."
