Pampering Discarded Heroines Triggers My 10,000x Rebate System
Chapter 80: Kill The TargetThe sudden darkness in the grand ballroom was thick.
Panicked gasps and confused shouts echoed across the room as over four hundred guests scrambled in the dark. A few people pulled out their phones and turned on their flashlights, but it barely illuminated the space.
From the corners of the hall, the sound of metal service carts shifting was followed by the soft hiss of drawn steel.
The fake banquet servers dropped their drink trays onto the carpet and pulled concealed, poisoned mana-daggers from their waistbands. In the dark, they began moving swiftly toward the VIP tables near the stage.
At the same time, the service doors on the left side of the room were kicked open with a loud bang. Two large S-Rank mercenary commanders charged into the room with their boots pounding against the floor.
"Stay down!" several guests screamed, backing into tables and knocking over wine glasses in terror.
In the dark where ordinary eyes were blind, Zephyra was completely in her element.
Her eyes adjusted instantly to the shadows. Her restored nerves and reconnected mana channels reacted without a fraction of hesitation. She took a quiet breath, stepped forward, and melted into the darkness with no sound.
The first fake server was creeping toward a table of City Hall officials with his dagger raised.
Thud.
A slender hand grabbed his wrist from behind.
Before the man could even turn his head, Zephyra twisted his arm, stripping the blade from his grip and driving her elbow straight into his jaw. The attacker dropped limp to the carpet without making a sound.
Zephyra didn’t pause.
Gliding across the floor like a shadow, she appeared behind two more attackers near the exit carts.
With two lightning-fast strikes to their pressure points, both men collapsed limp to the floor, their poisoned daggers clattering harmlessly against the baseboards.
She turned smoothly, kicking the knee of a fourth server who was lunging from behind a pillar, disarming him and slamming his head against the wall.
In the confusion of the blackout, the four attackers were neutralized before they could get anywhere near the guests.
Near the front stage, Mayor Henderson stumbled backward in the dark, his private security detail reaching blindly for their sidearms. "What is happening?! Security!"
"Stay behind me, Mayor," Amber’s calm voice rang out in the darkness.
Amber stepped in front of the Mayor and the front-row guests.
She focused her mana, and with a soft hum, a pair of radiant crimson and golden wings flared from her back. Brilliant, warm light flooded the entire grand ballroom like a rising sun.
The four hundred guests blinked against the sudden glow, staring up in awe at Amber. Her glowing Valkyrie wings arched high over the stage, casting an impenetrable shield of warm golden mana around Mayor Henderson and the surrounding city officials.
Her midnight-blue gown caught the light, and her expression was completely fearless.
In the bright golden light, the two heavy S-Rank mercenary commanders were caught out in the open.
Both men were clad in reinforced black composite armor, brandishing heavy broadswords glowing with destructive red runes.
"Kill the target!" the lead commander roared, realizing their element of surprise was gone. He lunged directly at Evren with his sword raised for a crushing downward strike.
Evren stood on the marble floor, completely relaxed. He didn’t draw a weapon, and he didn’t even take his left hand out of his trouser pocket.
With Kinetic Flow, the air around Evren seemed to slow. The mercenary’s strike path, the angle of his blade, the speed of his footwork, and the momentum of his body were mapped out clearly in Evren’s mind as soon as he moved.
Evren took half a step to the right.
The broadsword sliced through empty air, missing Evren’s jacket by less than an inch.
Before the commander could recover his balance, Evren stepped inside his guard and used his right hand to slap the flat of the heavy blade to deflect it, while his arm locked against the commander’s wrist, ripping the weapon clean out of his grip.
CLANG!
The broadsword spun through the air and skittered across the floor.
The commander’s eyes bulged in shock. "What..."
Evren stepped forward and drove an open palm directly into the man’s heavy chest plate.
BOOM!
The armor caved in with a dull thud. The commander flew backward, crashing hard into a concrete pillar twenty feet away before sliding to the floor, unconscious.
The second S-Rank commander froze in terror. Seeing his partner dismantled in a few seconds, he swung his weapon in a desperate, wild horizontal arc toward Evren’s neck.
Evren ducked beneath the blade and swept his right leg across the floor, kicking the commander’s lead knee out from under him.
As the man fell, Evren grabbed his shoulder, twisted him around, and slammed him face-down onto the marble floor, planting his heel firmly on the back of his neck.
CRACK-THUD!
The sword clattered away across the floor. The second commander groaned in agony, pinned completely helpless beneath Evren’s foot.
The entire confrontation was over as quickly as it had begun.
HUMMMM.
The building’s emergency generator kicked in. The overhead crystal chandeliers flickered twice before flooding the grand ballroom with full, dazzling light.
The double doors at the main entrance were thrown open. Commander Derrick and twelve heavily armed Apex Vanguard enforcers stormed inside with their rifles raised, locking down every exit and securing the perimeter.
"Area secure!" Derrick shouted.
The four hundred guests stood frozen in stunned, breathless silence.
The fake servers were all tied up and unconscious on the carpet, disarmed by Zephyra who was standing calmly by the wall.
Near the stage, Amber stood tall and radiant, her glowing wings slowly fading into motes of golden light. In the center of the hall, Evren stood with his left hand casually in his pocket, his right foot resting firmly on the neck of the defeated S-Rank mercenary leader.
Not a single guest was injured. Not a single banquet table had been overturned.
Mayor Henderson took a shaky breath, staring at Evren and Amber in complete disbelief. Across the room, reporters slowly lowered their trembling cameras, realizing they had just witnessed an S-Rank assassination team get dismantled in seconds.
The ballroom was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Suddenly, the tactical radio on the pinned commander’s vest crackled with static. The channel opened, broadcasting Garrett Sterling’s voice clearly across the silent room. "Did you kill them?! Is Evren dead?!"
