Meanwhile...
——
Back inside the tavern, Michael had first arched a curious brow when he saw Dante suddenly turn on his heel and walk out of the building, while pulling out his gun.
However, it didn’t take long for him to piece things together, especially after hearing the sound of bullets.
His smile vanished and he turned his gaze to his aunt. Then, he said in a cold voice. "You know, I had told myself that it wasn’t true. That it was not you guys that sold me out."
Aunt Agrafena flinched and gestured wildly with her hands as she tried to explain. "No wait... it’s not what you think. Listen to me, Ezio..."
She had barely called out the name when Michael slapped her with the back of his hand, causing her to fall and crash into a wooden table, before finally falling to the ground.
"Don’t call me that. Ezio is dead," he said, stepping toward her and crouching down to her level.
Then, a small, bitter smile began to form on his face.
"I had wondered how in the world Victor knew to prepare an ambush for me with two Apostles." Michael reached forward and grabbed her hair, yanking it hard enough to force her head back. "Then I figured, who else than my family who knew about my plans?"
"Please." Agrafena tried to beg as she clutched at his wrist. "Forgive us. We are family, aren’t we? You can’t do this!"
For a few seconds, Michael did nothing but just watch her beg. Then he smiled. "Ezio forgives you." He paused before adding, a tad bit colder, "But... Michael will kill you both tonight."
The tanned-skin woman’s eyes widened in horror as she stared into Michael’s cold black eyes.
However, just then, Michael heard a voice booming from the outside.
"Michael! Let no one escape!"
He frowned, and without wasting a second more, he smashed the woman’s face onto the wooden floorboards, knocking her unconscious.
Then, he stood up and turned around while extending his right hand slightly.
"God. You heard him!"
Just then, Michael’s black eyes changed to gray and an hourglass appeared in his hand.
He then turned his hand, flipping the hourglass upside down as the gray sand inside began to flow downward.
In the next instant, a gust of wind blew and the floors changed from floorboards to gray sand. At the same time, the walls nearby began to crack and dissolve into sand, revealing the streets.
Michael could see blood everywhere on the ground, beginning from where his domain ended.
Quickly turning to the side, he could see Dante running into an alley.
Without wasting any time, Michael quickly ran into a different alley. As long as he could see his target with his eyes, he could drag them into his domain.
***
Not far from the tavern...
——
The man with brown hair, brown eyes, and a scar that ran from his right cheek across his lip, ran as fast as his legs could carry him.
"He’s not dead even after that?" Thomas felt his terror grow as he turned behind him to see the man that should have died chasing after him.
What was scary was the fact that the person chasing had what looked like eight spider legs made of what was supposed to be blood attached to his back.
Four were on the right and four were on the left, and using those legs, the man was able to close a long distance. He was just like a spider that kept jumping from the ground, striking the sharp tips into the wall before running again.
"He’s definitely an Apostle!" Thomas cursed as he looked front, nearly crashing into a brick wall before redirecting his path and bolting straight ahead.
He would have definitely stayed to fight, but he was not an Apostle, and if there was one thing he learnt, it was to try and avoid fights with Apostles as much as possible!
Plus, this did not seem like any regular apostle.
And at the same time, Thomas knew that there was more than one Apostle.
More than one Apostle against a Tier 2 Warrior like him was a bad matchup!
He quickly turned a corner, but just then, he noticed that he was no longer running on cobblestone streets. Instead, his steps were somewhat heavy, as if he was running in a desert.
Looking down, he could see that fine, ash-colored sand covered the floor, stretching for as far as his eyes could see.
When he lifted his head, he could see a massive obsidian statue suddenly emerging from the sand and rising high in front of him. The statue was of a man with both hands covering his eyes.
Thomas halted and gritted his teeth. "Shit! It’s really Ezio. This is Ezio’s Divine Skill!"
He turned around to see that all the houses around were disappearing, turning into sand until he was suddenly standing in a vast desert, surrounded by five massive statues.
The second statue had its hands covering its ears, while the third covered its nose. The fourth had its hands shoved into its mouth and the last was hugging itself tightly.
He could see all this because despite it being night, the pale sun hanging overhead bled a cold, ash-colored light across the horizon, making things visible in the gray landscape.
Looking up, he could see a massive hourglass hanging in the sky and the sand falling from its upper chamber like a slow, grey waterfall.
When his panicked gaze shifted down ahead to the side, he could see the Blood Apostle that had been chasing him finally halt and the blood that had been serving as his spindly limbs detached, shrinking until a small blob of blood pooled at his feet.
Turning to the other side, he could see Ezio walking up to him with one hand in his pocket and a grin on his face.
Ezio raised his hand to the side and snapped his head to Dante, then spoke with a light chuckle. "Thanks for luring him to me, boss."
Just then, a massive axe made of desert sand began to form in his hand, which he then placed on his shoulder.
"How?" Thomas couldn’t believe his eyes. "How is this possible? They said you were dead! People saw you die."
Ezio grinned and replied. "Yes. Ezio did die. But... Michael came back from the grave to finish what he started."
He pointed his axe at Thomas and said, "Thomas was it? I remember you from the last time. After all, I was the one who gave you that scar. Heh. You must have already figured out how my Divine Skill: [False Arbiter], works. If I were you, I wouldn’t drag this out."
