Chapter 252 : Duke Remy’s Accusation

Caroline's sudden hug surprised me. It wasn't just me; Queen Kayana, Miss Karina, Commander Asier, Commander Oliver, and most of the people in the parking lot were also surprised. Meanwhile, Duke Remy, Judge Roswald, and the others simply watched, expressionless.

After a few moments of hugging me, Caroline released her embrace.

"I apologize for hugging you so suddenly, Brother Rid. I was just relieved to see Brother Rid wasokay after being attacked by Duke James who transformed into a demon. I was so worried before, thinking about Brother Rid. I thought Brother Rid would be injured or even killed after being hit by that powerful Duke James. I kept thinking about that because Brother Rid was hit trying to protect me," Caroline said.

"You don't need to think about that anymore, Carol. I was hit by that attack protecting you, but I'm fine despite it. Look at me now. Are there any wounds on my body?" I asked.

Caroline then examined my body carefully.

"You don't have a single wound on your body, Brother Rid," Caroline said.

"That's right, so you don't need to worry about it anymore," I said.

"Okay, Brother Rid. Sorry for saying this late, but I want to thank you for saving me. This is the second time Brother Rid has saved me," Caroline said.

"You're welcome, Carol," I said.

"I'm sorry I can't give you a reward even though Brother Rid saved me. But consider that hug I gave you as a reward for Brother Rid. Well, even though it wouldn't be enough to be considered a reward," Caroline said.

"You don't need to give me a reward just because I saved you. I didn't save you because I wanted a reward. But since you gave me a hug, I thank you for the gift," I said.

"You're welcome, Brother Rid," Caroline said.

Caroline smiled at me. Meanwhile, Queen Kayana continued to look at Caroline.

"Very good, Carol. I didn't expect you to approach Rid on your own. Are you interested in him? Do you like him? I don't mind if you like someone like him, in fact, it would be even better if you could marry him," Queen Kayana thought with enthusiasm.

After Queen Kayana thought about this, she immediately said something.

"Hmm, but Carol is currently 11 years old, while Rid is probably around 18 or 19. The age difference isn't that big, but it's still too early for Carol to marry. I will only approve of her marriage once she graduates from the academy, so she will likely marry at 21," Queen Kayana said.

Queen Kayana's words were overheard by Commander Oliver.

"What are you saying, Your Majesty? You want to marry Princess Caroline to Young Master Rid? Don't you know that Young Master Rid is currently dating Princess Irene?" Commander Oliver asked.

"I know that. But they're still just dating, not engaged yet. So there's still a chance for Carol to marry Rid, and Chloe still has a chance. Even if Rid ends up marrying Irene, there's still a chance for Carol and Chloe to become Rid's other wives. After all, in this world, men are allowed to have multiple wives, and even women are allowed to have multiple husbands. Well, even if men are allowed to have multiple wives, I still won't allow my husband to find a new wife," said Queen Kayana.

"If that's the case, then I'll order Elaina to win young master Rid's heart as well. My daughter certainly won't be outdone by your two daughters, Your Majesty," said Commander Oliver.

"Oh, try if you can, Sir Oliver," said Queen Kayana.

Queen Kayana and Commander Oliver stared at each other as if they were about to fight. Meanwhile, Commander Asier, who had been listening to their argument, joined in.

"Excuse me, Your Majesty, Commander Oliver, you two have been arguing for a while about whether your daughter should marry Rid. Currently, Rid is dating my sister, Irene. Of course, I hope that Rid and my sister's relationship will last until they marry. After they marry, I have no objections if Rid remarries and takes a new wife, even though he's already married to Irene. But the question is, will Irene agree to Rid getting a new wife, and does Rid really want to remarry and take a new wife? If Irene doesn't agree, or Rid doesn't want to remarry, isn't it pointless for you two to argue like this?" asked Commander Asier.

Queen Kayana and Commander Oliver fell silent for a moment.

"What you say is true, Asier," said Queen Kayana.

"That's right. Even if we force our daughter to win young master Rid's heart, it will be useless if Rid isn't interested in another partner," said Commander Oliver.

"Even so, I still hope that Rid will accept my two daughters. Rid is the ideal son-in-law for me, as I haven't yet decided on another son-in-law as outstanding as Rid," said Queen Kayana.

"I think so too, Your Majesty," said Commander Oliver.

Queen Kayana and Commander Oliver fell into deep thought, while Commander Asier remained silent, watching the two of them. Then, Judge Roswald approached the three of them, accompanied by Duke Louis.

"Your Majesty... Hmm, what happened to Your Majesty, Commander Asier?" asked Judge Roswald, confused by Queen Kayana's pensive expression.

"Your Majesty is simply contemplating the future of her two daughters, Lord Roswald," said Commander Asier.

"Is Commander Oliver feeling the same way? You're also contemplating," said Judge Roswald.

"Yes, Lord Rosward. He, like Her Majesty, is contemplating the future of his daughters," said Commander Asier.

"I see. Hmmm... excuse me, Your Majesty, Commander Oliver. We have indeed defeated the demons that attacked the courthouse and its surroundings, but there are still unsolved problems and cases, namely the plot to assassinate Her Majesty and the entire San Lucia family. Not only that, there are still many other cases involving Duke San Angela, Duke San Minerva, and Marquess Marcelo," said Judge Roswald.

After hearing Judge Roswald's words, Queen Kayana and Commander Oliver returned to their usual routines.

"That's right. Even though we've defeated the demons, there are still cases we must resolve," said Queen Kayana.

"It seems the demon attack was intended to distract us from solving that case," said Commander Oliver.

"It seems so. So what do you intend to do about that case, Lord Roswald?" asked Queen Kayana.

"First, let's start by discussing it with each other," said Judge Roswald.

-

A few minutes later.

We were currently holding a discussion in the courthouse parking lot. Most of the people who had previously taken shelter in the parking lot had already left. Some had gone to the Sancta Lux Church to treat their wounds, while the rest had gone to their respective residences. So, the courthouse parking lot was relatively quiet, with only us and a few knights guarding the area.

We were sitting in chairs, with a long table in front of us. The chairs and table were magically created by Queen Kayana. The people sitting in the chairs were I, Duke Remy, Duke Louis, Miss Karina, Commander Asier, Commander Oliver, Vice Commander Sara, Judge Roswald, and Queen Kayana. Caroline also sat in the chair next to me, though it seemed she wouldn't be joining in the discussion.

"Is Mina back here yet, Father?" asked Commander Asier.

"Not yet. Mina said via communication crystal that she had defeated the demon outside the courthouse. She also said that she and her subordinates would immediately head to the Sancta Lux Church because some of her men had been attacked by ~Dark Magic~. Perhaps she will return here after healing some of them," said Duke Louis.

"I see," said Commander Asier.

Meanwhile, Judge Roswald, holding several documents and evidence, began to speak.

"Now, let's get straight to the point. First of all, Lord Duke Remy, are you unaware of or involved in the plan being carried out by Lord Duke James and Lord Duke Darwin? I ask this because you have been quite close to Lord Duke James and Lord Duke Darwin, so I suspect you may be involved in the plan as well," said Judge Roswald.

"I swear I was not involved in the plan carried out by those two, Your Honor. I was shocked to learn that they were planning something so insane. I was quite close to them, and I even accused Lord Louis of murdering the Elves whose bodies were found in San Lucia. I joined in the accusation because they were the ones who initially accused him. Because I was quite close to them, I believed their accusations,"

"But it turned out they were the main perpetrators of the Elf murders. They killed the Elves and took their hearts to use as experimental subjects. Furthermore, they dumped the Elves' bodies in San Lucia so that the people of San Lucia, especially Lord Louis, as Duke of San Lucia, would be suspected of murdering the Elves."

"I know what I did by accusing Lord Louis was wrong. Therefore, I would like to apologize to Lord Louis for accusing you of murdering the Elves. I am also willing to accept the punishment for my mistake," said Duke Remy.

We fell silent as we listened to Duke Remy's words. Then we looked at Duke Louis, who remained silent, continuing to stare at Duke Remy. Duke Louis seemed to be contemplating something. Not long after, Duke Louis began to speak.

"Very well, I will forgive you, Lord Remy. Please do not do something like that again, accusing people without proof," said Duke Louis.

"Thank you very much, Lord Louis. I promise I will not do it again," said Duke Remy.

"As for punishment for your actions, I do not have the authority to give you a punishment. I leave that to Lord Roswald and Her Majesty the Queen. Even if they do not give you a punishment, I have no objections and will respect their decision," said Lord Louis.

Judge Roswald was silent for a moment, then spoke again.

"We can set aside Duke Remy's punishment for now. What do you think, Your Majesty?" asked Judge Roswald.

"I will accept your decision, Lord Roswald," said Queen Kayana.

"Very well, Your Majesty. Since Lord Duke Remy claims he had no knowledge of or involvement in Lord Duke James and Lord Duke Darwin's plans, Lord Duke Remy is declared innocent at this time. However, to prove his innocence, we must first search Lord Duke Remy's residence to confirm his innocence. You have no objections, do you, Lord Duke Remy?" asked Judge Roswald.

"I have no objections, Your Honor. Please search my entire residence," said Duke Remy.

"Then, allow me to search your residence immediately, Lord Duke Remy," said Judge Roswald.

"Please, Your Honor," said Duke Remy.

"Your Majesty, I ask Your Majesty to deploy the 'Snow Owl' troops to inspect Lord Duke Remy's residence. Because the 'Snow Owl' troops are the troops that guard and monitor the eastern region of the San Fulgen kingdom, namely the San Quentine area, the right decision is to deploy the 'Snow Owl' troops to inspect the residence of Lord Duke Remy," said Judge Roswald.

"Yes, you're right. Since Lord Remy's residence is within their surveillance area, it's only right to assign them. Then, Sir Oliver, please contact Ivana and have her and her knights search Lord Remy's residence. Search the entire Lord Remy residence and look for any suspicious documents or evidence related to Lord James, Lord Darwin, the experimental subjects, or anything else. If Lord Remy's knights stop and forbid the Snow Owl knights from searching Lord Remy's residence, tell them that I personally sent the Snow Owl knights to search Duke Remy's residence,"

"If they still refuse even though I've been told that I personally sent the Snow Owl knights, tell Ivana to force her way in. I authorize the Snow Owl knights to take firm action against any of Lord Remy's knights who continue to prevent them from searching Lord Remy's residence," said Queen Kayana.
