At the second-year training ground.
I had just finished a sparring match with Noa and Charles.
"Damn, we lost again. Looks like beating Rid is going to be tough for us," Noa said.
"Yeah, you're right, Noa. Even so, we both have to keep trying to beat him, or at least make it difficult for him to spar with us," Charles said.
"Ok. Let's end this sparring match for now. Please spar with us again tomorrow, Rid," Noa said.
Meanwhile, after finishing my sparring match with Noa, I remained silent, thinking about Aston Village and the people who had died there. I remained silent until I didn't realize Noa was calling out to me.
"Hey, Rid!" Noa said, suddenly appearing beside me.
I was a little surprised to find Noa beside me.
"Ah, Noa, what's wrong?" I asked.
"Didn't you hear what I said?" Noa asked.
"Sorry, I was daydreaming just now so I didn't hear what you said. What did you say, Noa?" I asked.
"I said that you'd please spar with me and Charles again tomorrow," Noa said.
"Ah, so that's what you said. Ok, let's spar again tomorrow," I said.
"It's unusual to see you daydreaming, Rid. What are you daydreaming about?" asked Charles, who was walking over to me.
It seemed like Charles had heard me say I was daydreaming.
"It's nothing. What I was daydreaming about wasn't anything important," I said.
"I see," said Charles.
Meanwhile, Irene, who had just sparred with Chloe, was looking at Rid.

After training at the second-year training ground, I went straight back to my dorm. Irene also came to my dorm to take a shower and prepare breakfast after her shower. While Irene was showering, I just sat quietly in the living room, which also served as the dining room. I sat so still that I didn't realize Irene had finished showering and was standing beside me, calling out to me.
"Rid," Irene said.
"Hmm? Oh, sorry, Irene, I didn't realize you were there. What's wrong?" I asked.
"I just wanted to let you know I'm done showering. You can use the bathroom so you can showering too," Irene said.
"I see. Ok, I'll go take a shower soon," I said.
I quickly got up and prepared to go to the bathroom. But as I was about to walk to the bathroom, Irene said something to me.
"Is something wrong, Rid? I've been watching you daydream," Irene said.
I stopped and turned to Irene. I kept the same expression I usually wore so Irene wouldn't know that something was wrong.
"Nothing, Irene. I was daydreaming, but I was just daydreaming about something unimportant. Sorry for worrying you. Well then, I'm going to take a shower," I said.
"Don't lie, I know you're hiding something, Rid. Even though you look like your usual self, I know you're hiding something. Something must be going on, right?" Irene asked.
I was a little surprised after hearing Irene's words. I didn't expect her to know I was hiding something. But even though I was a little surprised, I kept my normal expression as usual.
"I'm not hiding anything, Irene. I was just daydreaming about something unimportant," I said.
Irene then walked over to me and was now in front of me.
"I told you not to lie, Rid. I know you're hiding something. I know that because we've known each other for a long time, we've known each other for a year and a half. Because of the agreement we made, our relationship has become close. Because of that, I know what you're like and what you're used to."
"In the year and a half we've known each other, I've never seen you like this. So, I'm sure something must have happened to you. Now tell me, Rid, what happened to you?" Irene asked.
I fell silent after hearing Irene's words.
"Please don't lie again, Rid. If you lie again and say nothing happened, then we'd better end this agreement," Irene said.
I remained silent after hearing Irene's words. After a moment of silence, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Then, I sighed and slowly opened my eyes.
"Ok, I'll tell you what's happening to me. But I'll tell you later after I take a shower. Is that ok, Irene?" I asked.
"Ok. Then, while you shower, I'll make breakfast. It's better if you tell me after we have breakfast," Irene said.
"Ok, Then I'll shower first," I said.
"Yes," Irene said.
Then I went straight to the bathroom. After I finished showering, Irene had already made breakfast, and we ate together. After breakfast, Irene sat down next to me and asked what she'd asked earlier.
"So, what's going on with you that's keeping you daydreaming, Rid?" Irene asked.
I paused for a moment, then soon began to answer Irene's question.
"Actually, the reason I'm daydreaming is because I'm thinking about my hometown," I said.
"Your hometown? Has something happened to your hometown?" Irene asked.
"Yes, as I was about to leave for the training ground this morning, Miss Karina suddenly came to see me. She seems to know that I often train in the morning, so she came straight to me. Then, she received a report from Her Majesty the Queen that my hometown, Aston Village, had been attacked and everyone there had died," I said.
Irene was shocked after hearing what I said.
"What?! Your hometown has been attacked?! Who attacked your hometown?!" Irene asked.
"According to Her Majesty the Queen, the perpetrator who attacked my hometown is likely the same perpetrator who planned the assassination of Her Majesty the Queen and your entire family, Irene. He likely holds a grudge against me because I uncovered his assassination plot. He immediately retaliated by attacking my hometown," I said.
"I see, so the perpetrator is likely the same as the one who planned the murder. If that's the case, then this is also my fault, Rid. I was the one who dragged you into this. I made you form a fake relationship with me. Because of that, you were attacked by the person who planned the murder, who implicated me in the plan. Although you managed to defeat the person who attacked you, that person immediately took revenge by attacking your hometown and killing everyone there. This is all my fault, Rid, I am truly sorry," Irene said, bowing to me.
I looked at Irene, who was bowing. Then, I raised my right hand to Irene's head and stroked it.
"You don't need to apologize because you did nothing wrong, Irene. If anyone is to blame, it's the person who attacked my hometown. If the person who attacked my hometown is the same person who planned the murder, then he deserves the blame. Everything that has happened in this kingdom stems from him," I said.
Irene then slowly began to stop hunching over and returned to her normal position. Irene's face was now looking up at me.
"So you don't have to feel guilty, Irene. Besides, I don't regret making a deal with you at all," I said with a smile.
I said this while continuing to stroke Irene's head, while Irene remained silent as she listened.
"Even though you've just experienced the loss of people you know in your hometown, I'm amazed that you can still smile, Rid. But..." Irene said.
Suddenly, Irene grabbed my head with both hands. Then, she hugged my head to her chest.
"...Stop with that fake expression you've been showing me all this time, Rid. It's better for you to express your true feelings now. If you want to be sad and cry, go ahead. Besides, I can't see your face right now, so even if you did, I wouldn't be able to see your crying face," Irene said.
I was silent for a moment after hearing Irene's words.
"Why are you doing this, Irene? You don't need to do this, wouldn't you be better off just ignoring me?" I said.
"I don't know, I just felt like doing this," Irene said.
"I see. But are you sure about this, Irene? You're hugging me like this," I said.
"Yes, if I wasn't sure, I wouldn't have done it," Irene said.
"You have a point. Then, let me stay in this position for a few minutes," I said.
"A few hours is fine, Rid," Irene said.
"That's too long, Irene," I said.
"Ahaha," Irene laughed.
I heard something rare: Irene's laughter. But unfortunately, in my current position, I couldn't see her face as she laughed. But I didn't really care. Then, I closed my eyes to express my true feelings while I was in Irene's embrace.

Meanwhile, around 6:30 a.m.
The newspaper from Diganta had been published. It then spread throughout the kingdom of San Fulgen. In the newspaper, there was a story printed on the front page. The news item in the newspaper was about an attack on a village in the San Minerva region. The village was Aston village, the hometown of Rid Archie, the "hero of San Fulgen Academy" and "hero of the San Fulgen kingdom". The attack burned down all the buildings in the village, killing everyone. As a result of the attack on Aston, Her Majesty the Queen declared a state of emergency for the San Fulgen kingdom.
