The first week of May 1221, two weeks before the academy tournament.

Inside the Elevrad room.

I was currently with the other Elevrad members, discussing preparations for the academy tournament—scheduled for two weeks from now and the academy festival, which would take place one week after the tournament.

"The decorations are ready, the manpower is set, and everything else is in order; the budget is secure, and the members assigned to manage the tournament and festival have been designated. Since we’ve finished discussing all matters related to the preparations, I hereby declare this meeting concluded," I said.

The other Elevrad members, who had previously appeared tense, immediately relaxed their posture the moment I announced the meeting was over.

"Finally, it's over."

"I had a bit of a headache worrying about what I should say during this meeting."

"Me too."

"Same here," the other Elevrad members chimed in.

"I apologize for making this meeting run longer and feel more intense than our usual ones," I said.

"There's no need to apologize, Chairman. The academy tournament and festival are crucial events for this academy; naturally, meetings to discuss them would be lengthy and intense. We’ve held meetings like this often, so we’re used to it," Elaina said.

The third and second year Elevrad members nodded in agreement with Elaina.

"However, the first-year members might not be accustomed to this yet, so it’s only natural for them to complain," Elaina added.

"W-we apologize for complaining, Senior," said one of the first-year Elevrad members.

The other first-year members also offered their apologies.

"It’s alright; there’s no need to apologize. Since you’re tired, feel free to rest. The other Elevrad members may rest as well. However, once you’ve finished resting, get straight to work on your assigned tasks for the academy tournament and festival preparations. We’re starting those preparations right now," I said.

"Understood, chairman," the other Elevrad members replied.

The second week of May 1221, one week before the academy tournament was set to take place.

Before the main tournament, qualifying rounds were held to determine the top students from each year level who would participate.

The format for this tournament was the same as when I was a first-year student: a one-on-one match-up between students. Male students would face male students, and female students would face female students. Consequently, the qualifiers were also separated by gender. Irene, Charles, Chloe, Noa, Kotaro, Julie, Leandra, Lily, Lillian—who were from other classes—and I all chose to enter the qualifiers because we wanted to participate in the tournament.

The qualifiers began, and in less than two hours, they were over. We all passed, securing our spots in the academy tournament.

Monday of the third week of May 1221.

Today marked the start of this year's academy tournament. Nobles and invited citizens began arriving to watch the event. As the current chairman of Elevrad, I was responsible for welcoming and escorting distinguished guests to the seats specially reserved for viewing the matches. Among the VIPs, I welcomed were Queen Kayana and the Dukes from San Minerva, San Angela, San Quentine, and San Lucia. I handled these welcoming and escorting duties until 9:00 AM. Since the academy tournament begins at 10:00 AM, I will ask other Elevrad members to take over the task of welcoming and escorting them after 9:00 AM, as I need to get ready for my match in the tournament.

At 10:00 AM, the academy tournament officially began. The matches on this first day were solely to determine the top 16 competitors who would advance to the Round of 16 the following day. The matches took quite a long time, stretching well into the afternoon. By late afternoon, the first day of the tournament concluded. The others and I successfully won our matches and advanced to the Round of 16 scheduled for the next day.

The next day.

The second day of the academy tournament began. This day featured the Round of 16; the winners would advance to the quarterfinals (Round of 8) scheduled for the following day.

In the Round of 16, I managed to defeat my opponent without any difficulty. Noa, Kotaro, and Charles did the same. The four of us advanced to the quarterfinals of the male student tournament.

Meanwhile, in the feme student tournament, Irene, Chloe, Leandra, Lily, and Lillian successfully advanced to the quarterfinals. Julie, however, failed to advance after being defeated by Elaina in the Round of 16.

The next day.

The third day of the academy tournament began. This day featured the quarterfinals; the winners would advance to the semifinals (Round of 4) scheduled for the following day.

In the quarterfinals, I once again defeated my opponent without any difficulty, as did Charles. Meanwhile, Noa and Kotaro faced each other. It was a fierce battle, with both of them relentlessly attacking one another. After a prolonged fight, a winner was decided: Noa won the match, defeating Kotaro in that intense contest. This meant that Charles, Noa, and I would advance to the semifinals of the male student tournament. As for the tournament among the female students, Irene advanced to the semifinals after defeating Lily. Chloe also made it to the semifinals after beating Lillian. Leandra and Elaina likewise advanced to the semifinals after defeating their respective opponents.

The next day.

The fourth day of the academy tournament began. This day marked the semifinals; the winners would advance to the final round scheduled for the following day, while the losers would proceed to the third-place match, also set for tomorrow.

In the semifinals, I faced Noa. The match between us was quite fierce and drawn-out, but in the end, I managed to defeat her. With that victory, I secured my spot in the final. Meanwhile, Charles also defeated his opponent in the semifinals and advanced to the final. This meant that Charles and I would face off in the final to determine the champion of the academy tournament for male students.

As for the tournament for female students, Irene faced Elaina in the semifinals. The battle between them was fierce, but ultimately, Irene emerged victorious and advanced to the final.

Following the match between Irene and Elaina, the last semifinal bout began, pitting Chloe against Leandra. Their contest was intense and prolonged, yet Chloe eventually won, securing her spot in the final. Irene and Chloe would now face each other to determine the champion of the academy's tournament for female students.

The next morning.

Today marked the final round of the academy tournament. Although the match was still hours away, the students were visibly enthusiastic. Most had already gathered around the academy grounds, with only a small number remaining in the dormitories. Their presence—waiting eagerly for the final to begin demonstrated their excitement; they were even discussing and speculating on who would ultimately win the tournament.

It wasn't just the students; the invited spectators were equally enthusiastic. Some were already waiting at the academy gates, discussing the upcoming final match.

Meanwhile, as the students of San Fulgen Academy and others discussed the tournament final, suspicious movements were afoot elsewhere in the San Fulgen Kingdom.

In the San Minerva region.

On the outskirts of various areas within San Minerva, such as the fringes of villages and towns—figures dressed in ordinary clothing were spotted. However, they were carrying weapons concealed beneath their garments. Some of those individuals were also seen wearing glasses.

It was not just in the San Minerva region; in the San Angela, San Quentine, and San Lucia regions and even in the capital, San Estella, people matching the description of those in San Minerva were spotted. They appeared to be standing guard on the outskirts of the villages or towns in each of these regions.

Meanwhile, at the Duke of San Quentine’s residence.

Duke Remy was preparing to depart for San Fulgen Academy to watch the final match of the academy tournament. Duchess Arnett was also set to accompany him. Joining them to provide security were Commander Dayne and Senior Vyn; like the Duke, all three were wearing glasses.

Several of the Duke’s knights were also part of the escort, and they, too, were wearing glasses. Additionally, a few individuals clad in long, concealing cloaks were joining the party heading to San Fulgen Academy.

Duke Remy then glanced at Duchess Arnett and the others accompanying him.

"Come everyone, let us depart. The plan to assassinate Her Majesty the Queen and the entire San Lucia family is about to begin," Duke Remy said with a smile.
