Peerless Perverted Actor Has a Celebrity Harem?!
Chapter 104: Tests and SkepticismOne female producer bit her lip fighting a laugh, Park sighed softly. "Sorry. That sounded more arrogant out loud."
"It did," the vocal coach said.
"But it’s true."
That earned him a longer stare.
The older man didn’t seem offended exactly. If anything, Park could see the professional curiosity beginning to fight whatever natural irritation Cursed Presence had placed there.
"Then explain what training you do have."
"Some basic instruction. Listening, practice, things I’ve picked up myself. Nothing long enough that I’d use it as the explanation for my voice."
"You’re self-taught?"
"Mostly."
The coach wrote something down, before the female producer leaned toward her microphone: "How would you rate yourself as a singer?"
Park looked at her.
"Compared to what?"
"People your age."
"That’s quite an unfair comparison."
The producer stared at him.
Park stared back, then he lifted one hand slightly. "You asked."
She laughed first and the woman beside her followed.
The A&R executive tried not to smile and failed around the edges.
One of the men leaned forward. "All right. Compared to professional singers."
"That depends on the singer."
"Compared to NX Arc’s singers."
Park considered that one more carefully. "I haven’t heard all of them."
The man’s expression said he had expected the answer to end there.
Park added, "If I had, I’d tell you."
That actually made the senior vocal coach laugh once through his nose.
The New Talent Manager looked down at Park’s previous assessment, then back at him. "You don’t suffer from confidence problems, do you?"
"No."
At least everybody knew where they stood.
The female producer who had asked the original question tapped her pen thoughtfully. "What would you say is your biggest weakness as a vocalist?"
That one made Park think.
Actually think for some time than other questions: Peerless Male Siren had made the usual answers rather difficult.
Range?
No.
Pitch?
Definitely not.
Breath control?
He had yet to discover a meaningful problem there.
Consistency?
That would’ve been an issue if he were under some sort of uncertain and disturbing conditions, places, emotions and state of mind but the Flawless ability had basically taken consistency behind the barn and shot it.
Park finally answered, "Experience is my weakness for now."
The senior vocal coach looked up immediately. "Technique?"
"No. Actual experience. Stages. Crowds. Recording sessions. Working with professional producers. Touring. Performing when something outside the song goes wrong. I’ve barely done any of that."
The A&R executive’s fingers stopped over her tablet.
Park continued because that answer mattered to him: "I know what I can do with my voice. I don’t know everything about the industry around it. Those aren’t the same thing."
That earned a different kind of silence.
Less amused, more interested, even the New Talent Manager nodded once in understanding.
One of the senior producers asked, "And what do you think NX Arc can teach you?"
"Everything I don’t know." That came out immediately.
The producer smiled. "Convenient answer."
"It’s an honest one. Studios, producers, live stages, audiences, arrangements that aren’t mine, working with other artists, mistakes I haven’t made yet." Park shrugged lightly. "I know my talent but I can not pretend I know everything to do with the actual career."
The senior vocal coach studied him for another moment... Cursed Presence or not, something had clearly shifted and professional pride recognized professional seriousness.
"How much do you know about your own range?"
Park hesitated: "I don’t."
The coach frowned Park could almost see the negative note preparing itself then he added, "I stopped try finding the edges and how far I can go."
The man’s pen stopped.
One of the composers turned fully toward him and the A&R woman slowly raised her eyes from the tablet.
"What does that mean?" the vocal coach asked.
"Exactly what it sounds like."
"You’ve tested your range?"
"Yes."
"And?"
"I kept going."
For perhaps three seconds, nobody spoke... then one of the male producers chuckled.
"Kid, you’re either about to become very entertaining or very embarrassing."
Park smiled at him.
"I was thinking the same thing."
That got him another laugh from the women and a far more suspicious look from the man.
’Ah~ Lovely.’
The A&R executive glanced through his paperwork. "Any preferred genre?"
"Don’t have one."
"You don’t know what you sing?"
"I know what I like to sing, which genres I can sing and create songs from. I just don’t want to build a cage before I’ve tried everything."
"Pop then?"
"Yes."
"R&B?"
"Yes."
"Ballads?"
"Yes."
"Rock?"
"Probably, I havent had time to try it out."
"Musical theatre?"
Park thought for half a second. "Sounds fun."
One producer laughed. "That’s not normally how people answer this question; your really are arrogant, aren’t ya."
"Most people probably came prepared to sound employable."
"And you didn’t?"
"I came prepared to sing."
The A&R executive smiled despite herself.
Park’s face, his voice, cocky arrogance and confidence; his entire being, certainly weren’t making her job easier.
’Who doesn’t like handsome men or beautiful women.’
Sitting beneath the audition lights somehow only sharpened what was already unfair about him. Black hair falling loosely around his forehead, cognac-gold eyes catching the light whenever he turned toward whoever was speaking, posture relaxed without looking careless. Perfect Crown handled dozens of little things Park no longer consciously thought about.
Where his shoulders settled, the natural angle of his head or how he sat beneath the camera and even his pauses seemed to photograph well.
Somewhere in whatever room was receiving the live feed, people were getting an excellent look at NX Arc’s newest headache.
One of the male composers asked, "Why music?"
Park’s smile faded slightly. "Because I like creating something that wasn’t there five minutes ago... Acting is different; I get somebody else’s person, somebody else’s story, and I try to make them real. Music feels more mine... I can start with literally nothing and suddenly there’s something another person can hear."
The female producer nearest the end of the table watched him carefully.
"You want to be an actor or a musician?"
"Yes."
She narrowed her eyes. "That wasn’t the question."
"I know."
"So which?"
"Both."
"And if the agency eventually tells you to choose?"
Park considered her, then smiled: "Hopefully this audition is good enough that you don’t."
Even the New Talent Manager laughed, shaking his head.
The senior vocal coach leaned back and studied Park with the faint expression of someone getting increasingly irritated by how much he was beginning to enjoy the conversation.
"All right, Nathaniel Park."
He pushed the small keyboard closer.
"Let’s find these edges you apparently lost."
Park stood.
’Finally.’
A/N: I know this audition arc is going to be a bit long like five or Chapters around the same audition and might feel excessive especially in a NovelPhoenix where everybody is already waiting for Park to get signed, get famous, get rich, collect trouble, and start ruining the entertainment industry properly.
But please give it a little patience.
This arc is laying one of the biggest foundations for Park’s entire entertainment career, including how NX values him, how the industry starts seeing him, and why later opportunities, contracts, reactions, and expectations make sense; things I would not want to repeat when we start moving really fast immediately after the audition Arc.
I could rush it and simply say "Park shocked everyone," but I want you to actually see why they’re shocked instead of asking you to take the System’s word for it. Once this foundation is properly built, we won’t need to keep proving the same things over and over later.
