Peerless Perverted Actor Has a Celebrity Harem?!
Chapter 47: Every Mother’s Suspiciously Young Crush"Damn."
Emmeline grinned.
The morning wind came howling through the cabin, tearing strands of dark hair loose around her face while sunlight slid along her bare shoulders and flashed off the dashboard. She drove one-handed, posture relaxed in the deeply concerning manner of somebody who had been given expensive driving lessons and then elected to use them for evil.
’Showing off, sis, are we, huh.’
She was, while grinning.
Park braced a hand against the door and laughed as the Aston tore down the estate road—it screamed; the bronze hood swallowed the road ahead while the engine climbed through its gears with a smooth hungry violence, trees blurring past, sunlight breaking through the branches in sharp gold flashes, the wind gripped his shirt and flattened it against his chest and trying to steal the words out of his mouth before he could get them said.
Emmeline looked delighted but it was more of a rich-girl goblin delight which explained why speed limits had been invented by people with siblings.
Behind them, far enough back to suggest discretion and close enough to ruin anybody’s kidnapping schedule, the Mercedes-Maybach S680 Guard swept along in their wake carrying Emmeline’s head of security, two staff assigned to help with the shopping, and Quinn.
Park thought about that last one for slightly longer than the situation required, and then decided the road deserved his attention more.
So technically they were going shopping together.
’In reality we’re leading a small armored procession through the Crown District, because apparently buying shirts now require an operation.’
He settled deeper into the seat and watched the district unroll around them—high walls slipping past beneath old trees, private gates opening for other expensive cars, gardens rolling out behind iron fences and trimmed so precisely they looked digitally rendered.
The road curved toward the heart of Aurora Imperial City and the Aston followed it like a bronze bullet with no interest whatsoever in behaving.
"Sorry I sided with Aveline at your expense," Park said; he knew it hurt her when he sided with their older sister.
Emmeline’s mouth folded immediately into a pout. She did not answer.
"Seriously? Full silent treatment?"
"She was being dramatic."
"She was being herself ."
"She was being old."
"She’s twenty-three."
"To me that’s basically historical."
Park laughed. "Be so for real."
"I am being real."
"You called a twenty-three-year-old ancient."
"She has the spirit of a forty-year-old divorce lawyer."
"That was weirdly specific."
"I know her."
He shook his head, still smiling. "I took her side because I don’t want you all fighting forever. I hate seeing you cut off from them, Emmie. They’re your sisters; you’re supposed to be on the same side—covering for each other, stealing each other’s clothes, lying to Mother in harmony. Normal, healthy family crime."
She snorted despite herself.
"Do you have any idea how painful it is," he went on, softer, "being in this enormous beautiful mansion and my gorgeous sisters are burning all their energy on a cold war instead of getting along and spoiling the youngest sibling the way God very clearly intended?"
"You’re the youngest."
"I’m the youngest son buy you’re the young sister they should be spoiling."
"You’re the only son and the youngest."
"Exactly. Rare edition. Collector’s item. Limited print run, never to be reissued."
Her pout cracked straight down the middle. "You’re impossible."
"I know."
"And manipulative."
"I prefer emotionally gifted."
"Third favour."
Park turned in his seat. "What the hell? Are you collecting them like Pokémon now?"
"I’m collecting them so that when I need something, you won’t be permitted to say no."
"That’s less sisterly affection and more premium blackmail."
"It’s love with paperwork and inevitable promise."
He laughed; he reached across the console, and caught her free hand before she could take it back.
Then he lifted it, pressed it flat against his chest over his heart, and held it there with his own hand covering hers.
"Emmie." The joke went out of his voice entirely. "You don’t need favours for that. Ask me for anything and it’s yours. Anything at all. You’ve never once had to negotiate with me and you’re never going to."
Her fingers twitched against his shirt.
The effect was immediate and frankly gorgeous to watch.
Her breath caught and her other hand tightened on the wheel.
Warm pink color climbed up her throat and into her cheeks so fast that Park would have laughed out loud if the car had not currently been traveling at a speed that made startling the driver a poor long-term investment.
She pulled her hand back and stared very hard at the road.
"You know," Park said, entirely conversational, "you blush all the way down. It’s a whole event. Starts at the collarbones and works up."
"I am driving."
"You’re driving beautifully. It’s very distracting, actually, the whole—" he gestured vaguely at all of her "—operation."
"Park."
"I’m being supportive."
"You’re being a menace."
"I’m being a menace supportively. There’s a difference and I’d like it recognised."
Emmeline’s mouth was fighting a losing war with itself. "I need insurance," she said, clearing her throat and refusing to look at him. "Against you becoming difficult."
"I’m already difficult."
"You might become famous difficult."
"Damn. That’s personal."
"Famous people get weird."
"I was weird well before fame. I’m ahead of the curve."
"Which is exactly my point." She finally risked a glance at him. "When I cash those favours in, you’re not allowed to refuse. No matter how unreasonable I get."
Park nodded gravely. "So this is a robbery."
"It isn’t a robbery if you agree beforehand."
"That is categorically not how robbery works."
"Details."
He narrowed his eyes in exaggerated suspicion. "You’re not planning to take my tiny inheritance, are you?"
Emmeline looked offended enough to qualify for financial compensation. "What kind of money-hungrywhore do you take me for?"
Park nearly choked. "The expensive kind?"
"Wrong answer."
He leaned toward her with a grin. "Because I’d give it to you."
Emmeline burst out laughing, head tipping back for half a second before she remembered the extremely important fact that she was piloting a sports car fast enough to make poor decisions permanent. The Aston drifted an inch toward the lane line and snapped back.
Park gripped the door. "Jesus, woman."
"Oh my God," she gasped, still laughing. "Relax."
"I just watched my second life flash before my eyes. It was very short and mostly shopping."
"Second life? God you’re dramatic."
"I learned it from Aveline."
"No, I’m not taking your inheritance," she managed, catching her breath. "I’m saving those favours for when you become a celebrity."
"Oh?"
"A huge celebrity when you become Celestial Empire’s heartthrob and every girl’s wallpaper, every mother’s suspiciously young crush; the entire package."
"Very humble prediction."
"And then," she said, her smile turning wicked, "I’m going to become so unreasonable."
Park pressed a hand to his chest. "Madre mía. I’m shaking."
"You should be."
"What are you planning?"
"I haven’t decided yet."
"Somehow that’s worse."
They laughed again with the wind pulling the sound out behind them while the Aston ate through another long curve.
"So where are we actually going?" Park asked eventually, glancing at the signs.
"Empire Mall first."
He stared at her. "Of course it’s called Empire Mall."
"What else would it be called?"
"Mall."
"That’s boring."
"It’s honest."
"Empire Mall sounds expensive."
"Which is precisely why rich people named it."
Emmeline brightened as the city rose ahead of them. "It has everything you need." Then she looked him slowly up and down, openly disappointed, reviewing him like a failed renovation. "And everything I want to buy for you."
Park followed her gaze down to his own clothes. Clean fitted shirt. Dark trousers. Perfectly decent sneakers. On Earth he would have looked good in this. Great, even.
By Bennett standards he looked like a beautiful boy who had recently escaped a kidnapping and been dressed out of the lost-and-found.
Emmeline sighed so heavily it seemed to arrive from several generations back: "I genuinely cannot believe it took your first real acting job for you to notice how ridiculous you’ve been dressing."
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me."
"I look respectable."
"You look affordable."
"That’s not an insult."
"It is when you have that face."
Park clicked his tongue. "Damn, sis. Cruel."
"I’m serious." Her eyes went over him again—the plain shirt, the restrained colours, the shoes that had never in their lives frightened a bank account. "You have been unfair to your own beauty."
He laughed and tipped his head back into the sun. "Unfair?"
"Deeply."
"I should apologise."
"You should repent."
"To whom?"
"Me. I’ve had to look at you wasting all that potential for years, and I want it on record that it has been an ordeal."
"So this shopping trip is charity."
"This shopping trip is emergency intervention."
"Wow."
"You’re welcome."
Park shook his head and turned toward the skyline. Aurora Imperial City was climbing into view now, glass towers catching the light, traffic thickening, elevated roads weaving between the buildings like silver veins laid over the whole thing.
As crimes went, he had to admit that unfair to his own beauty was one he felt entirely ready to stop committing.
Especially with father’s platinum limitless card in play.
