Perfect Villain Life: Universal Job Change
Chapter 285: Everything Unspoken“Indeed. Or perhaps the losses they’ve suffered before have only made the Void Army more frenzied. The outer defenses we’ve established around the Continent of Hope are beginning to crumble.”
“Many legions have been forced to abandon their posts to recuperate, and as a result, more and more Void creatures have slipped past and infiltrated the continent. Although we’ve mobilized significant manpower to patrol and eliminate them, the results have been underwhelming.”
“Reports are coming in from all regions—cities being destroyed by Void monsters,” said a strikingly handsome elf lord with a grim expression, an 8-star powerhouse of the elven race.
Everyone nodded slowly. The recent string of victories had fostered a dangerous sense of blind optimism among the common folk. But those seated here knew the truth—Hydra had always been teetering on the edge of collapse.
“And we’ve received word that the Void Army is preparing for another wave of assault,” a dwarf chieftain said coldly.
The room fell into an uneasy silence. It had only been half a month since the last great battle, a devastating clash where a Void Lord led a million-strong army in an all-out offensive.
The allied forces had paid a steep price to repel them, barely managing to slay the Void Lord. Capet Empire alone had lost three legions and had five others crippled. The other factions had suffered just as much.
And now, just as they thought they could catch their breath—even briefly—another attack?
A shared weariness settled over the room. What chilled them most was the escalating frequency of the Void’s assaults. Once, they would have years, even decades between battles. Then it became a year. Now… just weeks. Less than a month. It was a terrifying sign.
“What are those monsters? Why do they never end!?” a human king cried out in despair.
Even after two hundred years of resistance, Hydra knew little of the Void. They only knew it was a horde of monstrous beings seeking to devour worlds and life itself. The Void was so terrifying that even the gods once worshipped in Hydra had fled, unwilling to stand against it.
“And something even worse… The Void cultists are beginning to stir again,” Rosha said grimly.
Void cultists—Hydra’s enduring cancer. These were traitors who had secretly offered up their souls in fear, turning instead to worship the power of the Void.
Back when Hydra was losing ground, the cultists had flourished in the shadows. Rosha’s rise had driven them underground. But now, they were surfacing again.
“Everyone,” Rosha said, slamming his palms on the table, voice solemn. “The reason I’ve summoned you all is to propose one thing—it’s time we changed our strategy.”
All eyes turned to him, his prestige enough to silence even those who would otherwise object.
“Lord Rosha, what do you mean?” someone asked carefully.
“We’ve been playing defense for too long,” Rosha said. “And defense alone will not stop the Void. From this day forward, we must go on the offensive!”
“Impossible!” someone immediately objected. “We’re barely holding on as is! An offensive would be suicide!”
Others stayed quiet, but the silence wasn’t consent. They simply didn’t dare speak out directly against Rosha. Because his idea… was far too radical. To them, the Void was untouchable. Their own lands—the Old World—had already been completely corrupted.
The only reason they’d survived this long was thanks to the Hope Continent’s magical fortresses, empowered by the world’s blessing. Within these bastions, Void creatures were weakened. But outside… things were different.
Attacking meant leaving their only line of defense and heading into Void-infested territory, where their power would diminish and the Void would grow stronger. To do so was, in their minds, certain death.
Rosha looked across the silent hall, disappointment flickering in his eyes. Even the normally supportive Emperor Caesar of the Capet Empire was frowning, hesitant to speak.
But Rosha knew—this was Hydra’s only hope. If they kept retreating, kept defending… they would be worn down and destroyed. He also knew… the internal fractures were deepening. The unity he’d worked so hard to build was unraveling before his eyes.
“I agree,” a calm voice suddenly echoed through the room.
Rosha turned his head in surprise. “Him…”
The speaker was none other than Qin Xian.
Qin Xian met Rosha’s gaze and nodded. In that moment, nothing more needed to be said.
Everything was understood—without words.
